Went for spring roll at 9pm, they were out, so ordered veg tempura — 6 pieces of food, one had long black hair in it(that I saw). Of course that was the last piece. It was typical fried food(think onion rings). The place gets a lot of take out orders but despite that I had to wait a really long time(prob 10 min). Watched cleaning crew sweep and mop floors. Noticed sanitation grade was 96 with ServSafe Certification. Not 100% sure but I don’t think anyone in there was Japanese nor did they know about Japanese food. Basically its Mexican food with Hibachi in front of the dish name???

A few years back I would go to New Japan typically once a week but recently the times I have gone the steak and chicken has absolutely no taste. They have also become very greedy with their sauces. I don’t know if they have new management or new owners or what happened but this used to be my to go japanese place, but my recent visit made me not want to go anymore.=/

Hibachi, tempura and sauces were great, fast service. No complaints!

Their incredibly slow service is paired nicely with their remarkably average food, for a very sub par dining experience. If you hate your date, New Japan is your one stop frustration stop.

New japan? More like no japan! Just likeother americanized japanese, disgusting. I didnt choose to go here my friends did and i should have Stopped them lol. The food is salty and overwhelming, the white sauce is watery and everything else is gross so yea if you want authentic japanese food, dont go here.

If I don’t go to Neo Japan, I come here. I’m always pleased with New Japan and their Hibachi Shrimp.

Tastes just like Japan Express on glenwood but closer and cheaper. Plus they have the mustard sauce you never find anymore

Serviceable quick serve hibachi. Nothing to write home about, but as expected for a quick hibachi meal. Had the hibachi steak w/rice and veggies along with some white sauce. They aren’t stingy with the white sauce like some places — you’ll need it.

Food is so-so. They can’t seem to get take-out orders correct. If you call about the error, management is rude. They expect you to go out of YOUR way to help them correct THIER mistake. They will actually ARGUE with you over the phone. When you do end up returning your food, the ENTIRE staff treats you like a piece of sh** … I’ve learned my lesson… this is a horrible place, be warned… STAYAWAY!!!

I was driving from Charlotte to Cary with my wife and made a stop here for dinner. After placing our order, we waited for about 30 minutes but didn’t get our food. When I approached the counter, the two girls working there told me that they had lost my ticket. They pulled my ticket from the system and called my number again after 20 minutes. When I got the food, it was undercooked and tasteless. I went back to the counter to let them know that the food was undercooked and was told that it happened because I rushed them up. I am not the sort of person who gets mad easily but her comment completely turned me off. I told them that I waited for 50 minutes to get my food so it couldn’t have been my fault. They never apologized or tried to correct their mistake and my wife and I had to leave the restaurant without eating. This was the WORST Japanese food I tried in my whole life. Please don’t waste your money there. I wouldn’t be surprised if this place goes out of business and I hope it happens sooner than later.

I am greatly disappointed in their service after waiting over 30 minutes for my order. I called it in. The lady on the phone said 10 minutes. I arrived 5 minutes later. I paid. I noticed an order being placed on car for the person in the front 5 minutes later. She did not acknowledge me or it. I assumed that it was someone else’s. After she began calling other numbers, I asked her about my order, she made a face and looked and there it was. 20 minutes elapsed. I asked twice and she said nothing. After finding it, she had no regret. No, I’m sorry. No nothing. No costumer service. This is my last time coming here.

White sauce is super watery… The seasoning is not there in their food anymore. Idk what happened? New cook, new food distributor??? But I am not a fan anymore.

When I’m in the mood for a quick meal that is delightfully tasty similar to some home cooking then I joyfully order from these guys! Actually, I order two plates for myself because it’s just that delicious. They make me feel happy to be greedy! And like a bit of a proud glutton after the second plate. The restaurant appears clean and tidy though I have the slightest attention of eating in, because I’m always on the run. However, the food is always warm, fixed and ready upon arrival, and that their preparation time is always accurate, which is uncommon nowadays. I am a big fan of the Hibachi dishes! What a delicious menu they have, and it comes on the plate looking just as tastier than the ads. Do yourself a favor and stop by for some great Hibachi!

The worst Japanese food I have ever had. If mcdonalds served Japanese food it would be better than this. We had spring rolls, hibachi chicken including white sauce, mustard sauce and ginger sauce. White sauce is generally my favorite but theirs was little tartar sauce mixed with water. The mustard sauce was soy sauce with a dash of mustard, and the ginger was just bad. My recommendation is to go anywhere else.

Low quality meat but the food is very good I must say ! Every time I visit NC I go to this place. I always order the teriaki shrimp and steak with white sauce. Its amazing ! When ordering ASKFORFRESHMEAT because when they give u the food thats been sitting for a long time it tastes nasty. They always made it fresh before when it first opened and the manager was always there, now its just young teenage girls and guys running the place during business hours

So, it was late, I was on my way back to the new digs, and I didn’t feel like cooking was in the cards. I came across New Japan totally by chance, and figured it was worth a try. This place looks like it was probably another fast food establishment that failed, and then was bought out by these folks. It was about 9pm, there was 1 person dining in, one waiting for an order, and one gentleman who must have been crazy hungry, as he dashed to beat me to the register. Not sure what closing time is, but chairs were being flipped onto the tables and the floors were being mopped, so it couldn’t have been far off. I ordered the steak/shrimp/chicken hibachi with soba noodles(and the requisite veggies) for just about $ 9(which is one of the pricier things on the menu… therefore, this could be a good spot for cheap eats!). While I waited, I observed the sauces offered via pump — white, ginger, and hot sauce. All pretty standard. I did enjoy that they had some pre-packed in a fridge for the takeout orders, so I didn’t have to fuss with pumping and fighting with little plastic lids. The food was cooked to order, and I was out the door in 7 minutes or so. As for the taste: Pretty bland. The sauces were highly necessary — the ginger sauce is actually quite tasty, indeed — and once a little love was added, the food was serviceable. I will say that the shrimp was overdone, so I will not likely reorder that… but the rest of the meal was just OK. Maybe the key is to order teriyaki instead of hibachi? I don’t know. I did see udon soups on the menu, so that will probably be my next try at New Japan. Overall, not a bad experience… just sort of «meh». I’ll give them another shot… we’ll see.

I called and asked if they do carry out and they said no. This is not ture. Went in and everyone seemed to be ordering to go. Other than that it was not to bad. I enjoyed what I got and it seemed pretty fresh! It is conviently close to where I live. The only other concern I have is that is it is a little pricey for being a fast food style restaurnte.

Fast food hibachi. It will do if you have a craving for hibachi but don’t feel like spending $$ and dining in but overall it is very«meh».

Quick, moderate price, meat tastes like poop. no flavor. All you can do to save the food is add a few japanese sauces. Not the hibachi style I expect. Worse than mall chinese food, wose than take-out, WORSE than literally ANYLUNCH I’VEHADINNC. ugh. Worse than panda express. Worse than day-old wendy’s burgers. Avoid this place… ewww.

First of all, if you’re allergic to MSG, don’t go here. I mean this in all seriousness. Let’s just say I know someone who has severe allergic reactions to this stuff and the food didn’t bode so well with him. Why the three star rating then you ask? From an authentic Japanese food standpoint, this place would get negative points, but for those of you who need a trashy Asian food fix sometimes like Panda Express, orange chicken, etc. — this is the place for you! Sometimes, I think I keep coming back here because I’m addicted to the MSG, but I’d like to think that some of their food is good. I’ve ordered the hibachi shrimp and chicken, which are just a tad bland, but once you douse their ginger sauce all over it, it’s all good. The portions may look like a lot upon first glance, but it’s because they stick a lot of cooked zucchini and onions under the meat as a filler, so try not to be too disappointed. Service is shit there, but I wasn’t expecting much. I wish I could give this place two and a half stars, but I don’t really have that option.
