The food here was ok. Unlike most places where I’ve eaten, there’s absolutely nothing about this place that would make me return for another meal. It wasn’t bad. The food tasted okay. It was clean, the staff were helpful. If you find yourself in that strip mall, and you are hungry for Chinese, there’s no reason not to eat there. It’s just not the type of place that I’d go out of my way to visit.

I’ve had better, and I’ve had way worse. The buffet doesn’t have a whole lot to choose from because it’s just two islands with about ¾ Chinese food and ¼ Mexican/random food. $ 8.99 isn’t too bad for a dinner buffet, and the waitresses are always really attentive. I go back because it’s close to my house, the food isn’t terrible when I’m craving Chinese, and I haven’t found anywhere else decent.

Ate here twice just to give it a second go. My opinion is the same. Food is mediocre, I have had better. Maybe the worse tasting in the county and I have been here for ten years.

They recently changed owners. Everytime I come here it just seems to get worse and worse. Before it was just decent but now it’s just plain horrible. We came here on a Thursday night and the dinner buffet was $ 8.99. Not worth the price if you ask me. Why? Because before they at least used half sized pans which allowed for more variety. But now they’re using full sized pans for majority of the buffet lines which spans the whole width of the buffet line so that keeps them from needing to cook so many varieties of different dishes. They think they’re being smart and cost effective by doing this which I agree it is from the owners point of view, but as a customer I want to get the most bang for my buck. The food was less than satisfying and there were also dishes that totally destroyed my appetite. General Tsos Chicken was laying in a very watery light brown sauce. Normally the chicken is supposed to be coated with the sauce and that didn’t seem to be the case. How good a restaurant’s general Tsos chicken is usually a good indicator of the restaurant overall. Many of the other foods were either dried out or just sitting in a water like sauce. I don’t give many 1 stars but this place really deserved it. Such a disappointment and waste of 9 bucks. Oh yeah my wife found a dead bug in her water… Yeah…

Located in a strip mall, not all that impressive from the outside. Plenty of parking. At Red Star you pay when you go in. Before you eat. I couldnt understand the cashier, I just nodded and paid my bill. Looks like I got lunch buffet and a tea, which cost me $ 10.36. As others have said this place is a little worn looking in areas. What I can tell you is that this place was busy at lunch when I was there. The buffet was loaded with food, all hot and fresh tasting. They have a grill area where you pick the food and they grill it for you, and sushi. The sushi didnt look all that great, so I didnt try it. There were plenty of other choices and everything I ate had a good taste. General Tso chicken tasted like it was supposed to, along with some house grilled chicken and onion which was very good. Hot and spicy chicken was good, and my egg roll was good. Noodles were good. It was slightly on the greasy side, but certainly better than the last Chinese I had in Durham. The wait staff was fast and friendly. All in all I would call this a solid average Chinese restaurant. Not great, not bad.

Every few months a sign goes up that says it’s new owners and they change the business name. Now there was even a menu mailer with coupons saying the same. Truth be told by an employee, it’s the same people as the previously named Mr. Wok at this location. All that’s changed is a new paint job on the trip inside(notice the oops on the wall by the doorway), a new floor in the main dining area, new tables tops(kind of a cool looking imitation jade), and an additional buffet table with fruit and salads. The food has improved a little, but it’s extremely greasy. So do I want better food, but greasy? No, just good food that’s not greasy. The waitress was super nice, but the cashier wasn’t told about the menu mailer and tried to turn me down using the coupon as I hadn’t purchased a drink with my meal, which the coupon did not indicate. I’ll try not to fall for the«new owner’s» tactic again.

I found this buffet in the Chinese newspaper and wanted to give it a try. Lunch buffet is $ 7.99, Dinner buffet is $ 8.99. Overall, the food was decent and(I guess) worth the price. But I have had better and fresher buffet food. They have a wide selection of Asian foods; like Lo Mein, Fried rice, clams, steamed shrimp, crawfish, teriyaki chicken, etc. There was also sushi but didn’t look appetizing. Décor is a bit run down and out dated. Staff was very friendly and quick to bus the tables between rounds. You get what you pay for. So for $ 8.99, don’t have high expectations and maybe you will be pleasently surprised.
