It’s the one place I will splurge on calories. It’s so sinfully good. Fresh sausage… Ahhhh… real buttery homemade biscuit… Double ahhhh… and then the donuts… geez.

Good food, fun options. Everything I’ve gotten has tasted fresh — family favorites are the maple bacon bar and chocolate glazed doughnuts.

I think all the hyped is crazy, people lined up out the door 20 – 30 deep. But given the hype, I had to try it since I was nearby and it wasn’t busy. Menu board is clear with the regular options and the specials. They offer an array of biscuits and donuts. Donuts looked to die for but I didn’t indulge. I ordered a regular biscuit with bacon and scrambled eggs. It’s what I would consider their basic offering. The biscuit was flaky, a bit crumbly, maybe dry, but I suppose that’s because I didn’t have anything to help keep it together. The bacon was crisp, just like I like it. I would say it was worth the $ 5 and lived up to the hype. The place was clean given that it appears to be packed almost all of the time they are open, which is 7 am to 2 pm daily. Get in the door by 2 or you are out of luck until the next day. Perhaps I will get a donut the next time I am nearby. Rumor has it one is coming to Charlotte soon.

Happened upon Rise this morning. Had a country ham biscuit and lemonade. The ordering process was quick and the biscuit was good. The ham had good flavor and the biscuit was tasty.

I’ve only been to the location in Durham so far, but I’m excited that there is one in Carrboro now! I tried the crème brûlée donut, and it was pretty good. I am holding off on rating this 4 stars until I try more donuts, especially since the donut I had didn’t live up to the donuts I’ve had in Chicago or SF. That being said, I will surely be back to try more donuts! I’ve also heard great things about the biscuits here…

Fabulous donuts! Came here on a Saturday and the line was well outside the door. I guess that was my sign that I’d be in for a real treat. Fortunately, it moved quickly and I was able to try the Cronie: half donut, half croissant, totally delicious. Several of the other donut options had sold out but this one looked pretty solid, and I’m glad I ordered it. Topped with raspberry icing and apparently filled with some sort of pastry cream(that was a surprise). The customer service was relatively friendly, but it was a little chaotic and I felt kind of pushed around with all of the people waiting inside for more complicated orders(like biscuits and things that required actual cooking). It’s just a tight space and I’m sure I wouldn’t have felt that way if I went any time other than a Saturday morning. Will definitely return to try more menu items!

Rise is dangerously close to my apartment. I have to keep myself from going unless I have friends visiting and I feel obliged to introduce them the the magic that is Rise. I am partial to their biscuits over their donuts. Don’t get me wrong, their inventive creations tempt me every time but I have been underwhelmed before. The biscuits however never disappoint.(Maybe get a donut for a snack after the biscuit). My go to is a biscuit is homemade sausage, egg, and Vermont cheddar. I have never started a bad day after that. Today, I went to the specials board. Huevos rancheros with avocados, black bean spread, egg and cheese. My sausage biscuit may have competition. The line is often out the door but it moves fast. It is often full of runners and bikers from the American Tobacco Trail. But you will see people like me unshamelessly mixed among them. Though I venture in the winter, there is not much seating except outside so don’t expect to eat there unless you want to stand. Everything is served in paper bags!

Holy smokes. This may be one of the best breakfast places I’ve ever been to. I got the Biscuit breakfast sandwich with pimento cheese, sausage, and running egg. It came out to a little over $ 6. The biscuit tasted like it was fresh out of the oven– soft and warm. The pimento cheese was truly«the caviar of the south». As soon as I bit into the sandwich the yolk from the running egg started oozing and was absorbed by the other fillings. Finger linkin’ hella good sandwich! There is limited booth seating but they do have outdoor tables. The customer service was excellent.

We have eaten at 3 of the Rise Donut locations and nothing beats the original. This place has the best donuts that this fat boy food lover has ever had. The maple bacon bar is my favorite, but any donut they make is delicious. The jelly donuts remind me of jellies that I ate as a kid in NYC and have not had since those early years of my food love. The biscuit sandwiches are also a must eat. The Bologna Biscuit is a culinary masterpiece. Do yourself a favor come to the Original Rise in Durham, you won’t be disappointed. Well if you get there too late in the day you might as they do run out of donuts. They don’t make and make and make and serve stale food.

The hipster biscuit and doughnuttery of Chapel Hill. I compare/contrasted to Sunrise and here’s the scoop: The biscuit sandwich is better here at Rise, but twice as expensive and served in a hipster atmosphere. Which is awesome, but not a down-home Southern experience. The doughnuts are fancy Voodoo style and don’t disappoint. It’s a good time with good food, but do not expect authentic Southern experience.

This place rocks! From their doughnuts, to their coffee, to biscuits, it’s all solid. Four stars because there’s always a wait, donut flavors get sold out quickly, and there’s little to no seating inside. It’s a local breakfast place that seems so out of place in a suburban strip mall. It’s located in the same shopping center as target near southpoint, and there’s almost no seating. There’s maybe spaces for 5 people at a counter, and a few outdoor tables. The rest of the small restaurant is for people waiting for their food or waiting in line to order. Get there early if you want your choice of doughnuts. There’s always a line, and they run out of flavors quick. I’ve had their maple bacon(awesome), Boston crêpe, glazed, etc. it’s all good. Cake style FYI. Biscuits — you must get the fried chicken with pimento cheese biscuit. Pimento cheese is sooooooooo delicious! And their fried chicken is brined first and so juicy. eating it is a mess, but totally worth it. Coffee is delicious too! Fresh, strong, and full bodied. Yum! The only thing I dislike about it is that the place is so small, there’s basically zero seating, and there’s always always a wait to order then another wait to pick up your food. But hey, the food is worth it!

Ahhhh I haven’t reviewed this place yet! I’ve been coming here for two years, what a shame! So fair warning, come early, that’s when you’ll have the best selection of donuts. I love when I come at 7 am and they are playing loud trap music and the cashiers are dancing. It really helps start my day. The food is amazing, of course, they switch their offerings frequently so I’m always in for a surprise. Most recently, I tried the brisket biscuit and the meat was so moist that it was falling apart. The biscuits are always fluffy, and my favorite donut is the chocolate cake with strawberry frosting. On Saturday mornings, the line is out the door, so that’s a testament to how god the place is. They are opening a franchise near my place in Raleigh, and I CANNOTWAIT! Matter of fact, I am tempted to go there today!

I’m not a fan of their yeast donuts but I like the cake ones. Their version of the cronut, the cronie, is excellent and delightfully flaky. I also enjoy their biscuits. I wish their Mac and cheese biscuit was on the menu more often. It’s amazing. It would be nice if they had iced coffee. Cold brew is pretty easy to make.

I’m a donut lover so I thought this place would be amazing, but it’s not as great as I thought it would be. I was most excited for the crème brûlée donut. It tasted a little burnt on the outside and there was too much filling on the inside. I didn’t bother finishing it either… I hope their other donuts are better. I will give them a try! As for their biscuits, I think they’re hyped up. I made my own biscuit with bacon, onion, cheese and a fried egg. The biscuit was pretty dry even though there is so much butter in the biscuit. The bacon is great though but the biscuit itself is mediocre. I’ll probably try the specials next time instead. Disappointed in this joint :(

Why. Are their donuts just so not that great??? Their chicken biscuits are great but I’m always disappointed by their donuts again and again and again Their cronie does not have any sign of being part croissant. My plastic knife broke while I was cutting through it because it was so hard. I even asked them if it was from yesterday because it was so hard and cold and tasted not fresh at all.

We went this morning and we loved it! We walked in to 90’s rap playing! Awesome!!! On the side wall are three frames of menus of places that the chef from rise learned from! There are plaques below each menu stating what they learned from each restaurant! Love how he gives credit to where it’s due and know to attribute his successes to those that influenced his career! The donuts!!! Loved them!!! I got the pear lavender and my husband got the espresso cream donut! They had this great doughy chewy texture, and the frosting was also very good. I usually don’t like filled donuts, but the espresso cream filling was really yummy! For biscuits, we both chose from the specials list. I got the pea cake one, which had what I think was a fried cake of mashed peas, kind of like a falafel, along with arugula and mayo. My husband got the pork belly with broccoli rabe and an Asian-style sauce. Both were quite good, and the biscuits were dense but fluffy at the same time, which was great! Overall we really liked it and can’t wait to go back to try more, especially the donuts!

Thank goodness I haven’t found this place any sooner:) Let’s just say one bite and you will keep coming back for more. There is a reason Rise gets so much buzz and they deserve it. I was blown away by my delicious biscuit and donuts. How do you pick what to eat here? I had my heart set on the blueberry wonut, what’s a wonut you say? Oh just a waffle donut mixed together what??? Yes this would have been my first wonut experience but they were already sold out when I went to order one:(Oh well next time and trust me there will be a next time. After I got over the sadness of no wonut I ordered a strawberry cronut, banana pudding donut, fried zucchini biscuit, and a pigs in a blanket. Yup and I had a taste of everything. I will say my least favorite was the banana pudding donut but I’m not much of a banana pudding fan in the first place. However the donut was still delicious and I loved that it wasn’t too sweet. That cronie really one the show as far as the sweets I ordered. I’ve decided I want one cronie a day for as long as I live, so good I hope they make some other flavors too. I was really excited to see the fried zucchini biscuit featured this day. I absolutely love fried zucchini and when you stick it on a buttery hot biscuit with hot pepper relish and other delicious toppings well you got one hell of a breakfast sandwich. There was a line out the door on my first visit and I imagine it is like this almost everyday. I was really impressed how efficient they were with ordering and serving customers. I can’t wait for their new store to open in Cameron Village. Kudos to you Rise you are a unique and awesome concept, killing it with those donuts and biscuits.

I’ve been to rise about 4 – 5 times, and I’m definitely a fan. The assortment of donuts is unlike any other place, especially with all of their unique flavors. The cronie is a must try here. It’s basically a croissant mixed with a donut. The texture of it is so airy and fluffy inside, yet crunchy on the outside. It comes with a great cream filling that changes flavor depending on the day. The blueberry«wonut» was also a hit for me. It was a blueberry donut shaped like a waffle with a raspberry icing. It was really good and unique, something you wouldn’t find anywhere else. I also like the strawberry bullseye with balsamic and basil glaze. It is a very colorful donut and messy to eat, but the strawberry on top is sweet and perfectly complemented by the green glaze. Overall, I love the creativity and variety of donuts at Rise. Surprisingly, I think the best thing on the menu isn’t even a donut, it’s the chicken biscuit. The biscuit is so moist and buttery, with a perfect amount of flakiness. The fried chicken is always fried fresh and is so moist and juicy on the inside. The coating on the chicken is seasoned very well and makes the chicken very crunchy. It’ll really make you forget about Bojangles chicken because it’s so much better. I’ve also had the apple braised pork biscuit. It was a special for the week and was also amazingly good. You can really taste the apple in the pork and the exterior of the pork had a nice char that sealed all the flavor in the meat. Just exceptionally good! I love going to Rise to get a great donut or biscuit. Although their prices are a little higher than other places, I think you really get what you pay for at Rise in terms of quality and uniqueness in taste. Overall, I would highly recommend Rise.

I was in the mood for some biscuits one Sunday, so looked on Unilocal and was surprised to find this place, and right in my neck of the woods too. I had to try the chicken biscuit and they had a pig in a blanket with sweet potato, sounded interesting so decided to try. I did add pimento cheese and a egg to the chicken biscuit and I gotta say it was the best chicken biscuit I’ve ever had!(Sorry Bojangles) The chicken had a awesome flavor! I know the menu said it was brined,(and u can tell) but there was another bold flavor in there, possibly poultry seasoning. The pimento cheese was very legit, I highly recommend it. The pig in a blanket was really delicious and huge, the sweet potato was a perfect addition. The maple bacon bar was good but I should mention I’m just not the biggest fan of donuts anymore. All in all a great place and give them props for their creative menu items. Update: This place deserves 4.5 stars for sure. I went here again on a Sunday(this is the perfect weekend ender breakfast place btw), but this time I got The Fried Eggplant«Bacon» biscuit and a Sausage Biscuit with egg and Pimento Cheese. If u haven’t tried the eggplant biscuit u are really missing out, I will mention it would be even better with egg and cheese though. Its thin sliced eggplant battered and fried and somewhat similar looking to bacon, hence the name I guess. Definitely doesn’t taste like bacon but it was delicious, try it! The sausage and egg biscuit was great, they have the best pimento cheese, I love it! So far I haven’t had anything here I didn’t love.
