My boyfriend has been coming here since he was super young. And he took me here and it is so good. The customer service is amazing. The tuna melt is a must have! I loved it considering I don’t like tuna usually bc it has all this extra stuff! The smoothies are fresh & tasty as well!

Stumbled in looking for a place to cure my hangover. Tried the Hodge Podge — Meatballs wrapped with roast beef, pastrami and topped with onions, mozzarella, parmesan and Dave’s hotts. Friggin amazing. The 6 inch is enough for 2 meals. 14 bucks with tip for a sandwich, chips, and pop where you get 2 meals out of it. Totally worth it. Can’t wait to go back and try other stuff. Boston themed place. I am no East Coaster or Bostonian and know nothing about Boston food other than Clam Chowder, but take it from a fat guy… it’s glorious.

Very bad service. Upon entering I had to announce my presence several times to get the cashier to stop texting on her phone. When she finally did decide to acknowledge me she acted annoyed and was rude and unhelpful. I will not be eating here again. Shame because the food is good, but I rather not give money to an establishment that employees such rude people.

I just happen to walk by and step in for a sandwich and I was extremely happy that I did! My Italian sandwich was so fresh and tasty and Dave was super nice! This is definitely my new favorite sandwich shop.

I am on a cleanse right now so I cannot attest to the actual taste of the food here. However, I can say that this will be the first place I go once I’m off this cleanse. Dave is the sweetest person with an amazing personality. His food is all fresh and when we arrived(on a Wednesday at 5pm) they were almost out of everything! He still managed to whip up an amazing kids sandwich for the child that I babysit for. He absolutely loved it, not to mention the parents are going to love that it’s super healthy. I bought another sandwich for my boyfriend in order to live vicariously through him as he eats it :/can’t wait to come back!

The tuna melt is my favorite, best one I’ve ever had. Turkey melt is also amazing. My boyfriend is vegetarian and craves the hot hippy all the time, it is a hearty, flavorful vegetarian option.

Great sandwiches and friendly service. Dave makes a hot pepper spread that goes terrific on the tuna melt. I’ve had a few of the sandwiches and all have been good.

Went here with a friend. Street parking only(meter or by adjacent streets). It’s a pretty janky place, not gonna lie. It’s not the prettiest place inside. Just tables and chairs, nothing special. My friend and I ordered the surf and turf & rosemary turkey to share. Surf and turf is tuna melt plus pastrami. Oh man, it sounds weird but it is damn tasty. The ratio of tuna melt to pastrami is very well done, neither of the two overpowers each other. The rosemary turkey sandwich’s bread is, pretty damn amazing. The smell & taste of the bread is freaking phenomenal. The inside of the both sandwiches are jam packed with accouterments of what makes good sammies. The dude that made our sandwiches was coo. Definitely took a bit longer to get our sammies but no complaints from me.

Today was my first time in Dave’s. Friendly service, good music and a cozy, funky atmosphere. This visit was prompted by a family member’s demand for a hot pastrami sandwich only from Dave’s. I ordered the same, with another hot roast beef sandwich for another family member. The staff was very accommodating with my «off menu» request. My sandwiches were whipped up with a quickness. I rushed home as the aromas were debilitating. I’ve had sandwiches from all over these United States and I never felt the need to bother with a review until now. When I’m in Eagle Rock I will make a stop off at Dave’s for a sandwich without a doubt. Now I must endure the withdrawal until I return. 5stars does not do justice. I’d give 6 if I could. Update: the sandwiches are very good. My first visit was not a fluke. Half of my sandwich didn’t last very long. Had to chow down before I could even make it out of my parking spot out front.

I’ve had this place bookmarked for some time bc 1) I love sandwiches, especially from hole in the wall joints like this. 2) great reviews I showed up on Good Friday in the late afternoon. there were two guys sitting outside. when they saw me one of the said, «sorry we’re closed.» I looked at them with much disappointment of course bc I really wanted to try their sandwich. the guy/owner, assumed he is Dave(?) said to me, «we ran out of bread. it’s good Friday and I had a huge order just wipe me out. next time call me ahead of time and I’ll save you a bread.» I thought, what a cool guy. I said thanked him and left. today I showed up to finally try this sandwich! I walk in and there’s a lady behind the counter making a sandwich. she looked quite angry and didn’t even look up to ask if I needed help. I had to interrupt her but Dave came out just in time to help me. I started asking him about their Rosemary turkey sandwich. seemed like he got a bit annoyed bc he said to me, «let me know when you’re ready. I’ve got some sandwiches to make.» and then walked back into the kitchen. strike 1. he then came out and i asked him again about the Rosemary Turkey sandwich(since he rudely left me hanging the first time) in which he said in a rude tone, «look it’s not rocket science.» ummmm ok. strike 2. I then proceed to ask him about the kids sandwich since the menu didn’t say much except«cold and hot sub» I asked what is in the hot sub and what’s in the cold sub. he seemed a bit agitated and said, you can pick anything in the menu and we make it into a kids size sandwich. again not rocket science.” strike 3. I paid and went to my table outside. a few minutes later my kids and I walked back in and waited near the counter to wait for our sandwiches. he came out and said«what do they want?» meaning my kids. I told him that we’re waiting for our sandwiches! strike 4 and so much more but this review is just getting too long. oh, back to the sandwich. I ordered a Tuna Melt. it was good, not blow my mind good, but I really enjoyed the spicy sauce. was gonna buy the sauce but changed my mind after the rotten service I got. when I was leaving, I saw Dave and a couple of staff members talking. one of the girls seemed to be scolding him about something and I heard him saying something about«rent.» my hunch is that he’s really stressed about business, but you can’t take it out on your customer! he seemed a bit bi-polar. not going back obviously. as you can see from my profile, I rarely write reviews but this was such a bizarre experience that I kept thinking about it when I came home and felt I had to write a review.

Hands down the best sandwich in LA if not the world. Dave made my turkey sandwich himself with the precision of a sushi master. You can literally taste his years of fine sandwich crafting experience in every bite.

Probably the best sandwiches in Los Angeles but don’t even bother calling to order ahead. I’ve called ahead about 5 times now and every time I show up for my sandwich they say no order was placed and I have to spend 20 mins of my lunch waiting for my food to be made. The worst part is that I recognize the owner’s voice when I call and he still has the audacity to tell me we didn’t just speak on the phone.

Great sandwich establishment. We showed up as they had just closed and to our surprise they didn’t turn us away. We were welcomed in and never felt they were hurrying us up to leave. The place itself was clean and the workers were very friendly. Tried the tuna melt, beef pastrami and roast beef. All sandwiches were very fresh and delicious. Also dont forget to try their own made sauce«Dave’s Hotts» it’s a must have!

The staff is friendly but most importantly the food is rad! Try the turkcules sandwich, it’s packed with real turkey and has a spicy kick to it. Dave’s Hott Wicked Good Peppa spread is flavorful, get some!!!

Dave is the best. The sandwiches are the best because Dave is the best. The pepper spread is the best because Dave makes it. Do yourself a favor and get the roast beef melt or the turkules. I’ve had almost all of the sandwiches and they have never disappointed. They run 8 – 10 bucks and it’s totally worth it. They close early if they run out of stuff. If you’re pompous and that pisses you off somehow, go to Subway.

Delicious sandwiches! Dave is a sandwich genius. Split the Rosemary’s turkey and the surf & turf. they were both really good, but I think I preferred the Rosemary’s turkey. Will definitely return.

Bomb ass sandwiches!!! …and Dave is cool af! I’m from Eagle Rock and I’ve been missing out, seriously. The French Dip Melt with pickled jalapeños on the side is ridiculous. And you gotta try the Italian Sandwich… It’s so damn tasty with the bread it’s made on. Believe me when I tell you… This place is wicked good!

My partner and I just moved to Eagle Rock, we were looking for a sandwich place. Definitely didn’t know what to think when we walked in, but DAMN, this place is delicious!!! My Mom and I had the Rosemary’s Turkey – W.O.W. Delicious and moist. My wife had the pastrami, delicious as well. Great service and the food was well priced and worth the wait. Would go back again again and again!

So glad we have Dave’s near us! Super delicious sandwiches and Dave is awesome! Come early – sometimes sandwiches can sell out. We had a feast tonight, with a perfectly flavored rosemary turkey sandwich, Italian meatball sandwich, a plate for our kiddo, etc.

Got there around 7:45 ish pm, feeling so excited to try their famous Rosemary turkey sandwich. Because I didn’t check the restaurant hours, the door was locked when I arrived. The guy was inside and came out of the kitchen. Thought he was nice enough to let me in and order, but nope he said its closed. The hours on the door said until 8 pm. Then I said«it says here that u guys close at 8 pm.» Then he said«we are sold out.» Wowwwwww… It’s hard to believe that they are sold out when they sell so many items and PLUS how would he know what I was going to order? NOTCOOL!!! ESP they close that early! I drove straight here from work for NOTHING

Now this is my kinda sandwich place. First off, Dave is a cool ass dude. Not only is he from Boston, which is near and dear to my heart, but he is legit just a down right friendly guy! We had a great chat reminiscing about all things that are boston and he took the time to get to know us and welcome us back. The place itself is really low key with some pretty random décor. Loved the star wars and family guy pictures haha but over all, u can tell this place is all about the food and not about the ambiance. And man are they about the food!!! The sandwiches we had were no joke. I got the rosemary turkey(which is one of their best sellers according to Dave) and my bf had the surf and turf. So freakin delicious — i want to eat that rosemary bread everyday of my life!!! My only tiny gripe is that I desperately needed a napkin and none of the napkin holders had been filled. I know, first world problems over here haha… napkins or no napkins, this place is bomb and I’m definitely coming back to get my sandwich on and to hang out with Dave.

4 stars for food, minutes 2 for service. I ordered rosemary turkey online at 1:45pm and was told the wait for pick up would be 10 – 30 min. I wanted ANHOUR with no word and was getting hangry so went ahead to the restaurant. When I walked in, I saw my sandwich just chillin and grillin no more. It looked like it had been ready for awhile. I was also initially ignored by the 2 women working there while I stood by the cashier. Definitely disappointed from such a highly reviewed place.

The Rosemary turkey is a popular Sammy here — and for good reason! The bird is moist, the avocado creamy and the aioli has a perfect little kick without being spicy or overwhelming and the portion is pretty generous. I shared this with a guest and we left feeling very content. And you absolutely can’t forget about the bread. It’s fresh, light and fluffy and the Rosemary really compliments it well. It’s certainly the highlight of the Sammy so I inquired about it. Dave said that he gets it from a chemical free wholesale distributor whose clientele includes mostly fancy shamancy high end hotels. But lucky for us we can sample a bit of luxury without the fancy price tag and Dave sure knows how to make ‘em tasty too. Mmm… It’s definitely a spot I’ll frequent often since it’s just down the street from target and Macy’s — a deadly combo, but absolutely worth it. Go try it for yourself!

This place is outstanding!!! Walked in as Dave himself was closing up, instead of turning us away he let us order, just warning us that he was out of pastrami and roast beef. My wife got the Turkcules and I got Dave’s Choice, he made me a wicked sandwich with meatballs and sausages. So good already but I put some of the pepper spread on it, added a good kick to it. My wife’s sandwich was so delicious too, instead of mustard or mayo it’s spread with hummus. Nice change of flavor. The sandwiches were delicious and made even better by the friendly, welcoming personality of Dave. Lots of respect for a business owner willing to accommodate some hungry strangers. While we were enjoying our sandwiches he made one of his employees a tuna melt that looked awesome. He must’ve caught me looking because he told me, next time ask for the Surf & Turf, a tuna melt stacked with pastrami. Will definitely be visiting Dave’s again.

I went to Occidental College, and used to come here daily. I’ve been coming here for 10 years, was one of Dave’s first customers when he first opened up. My company recently relocated to Glassell Park, so I have been coming here more often for lunch. Still amazing. Dave uses the freshest most delicious ingredients. All his sandwiches are carefully crafted. It is hard to actually pick which are the best, because all of them are top notch. He doesn’t skimp you either, they are good sized. I have been getting the Turkules recently, a delicious combo of turkey, feta, and hummus with pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce. He adds some of his, «hotz,» spread, which adds a nice kick. The feta really stands out too, creamy complement to the turkey. Love the bread, it is solid with a slight crunchy exterior, but soft interior. Perfect for his sandwiches. Also a big fan of the tuna melt. Honestly, you can’t go wrong. He has daily specials as well. Pretty good smoothies too. It’s one of my favorite sandwich shops in LA. Dave and his staff are cool peeps, and it is a very relaxed locally owned independent sandwich shop. Located on a hip corner of Eagle Rock. Definitely give it a visit if you are in the area.

I ordered the Hodge Podge which contained pastrami, meatball and roast beef doused in marinara sauce. While the sandwich was good, I could barely taste or feel the texture of the non-meatball meat because the marinara sauce was too overpowering. Maybe Dave should do a little more grillin and less chillin because I wasn’t a fan of waiting over 30 minutes to make a sandwich when there was only one person in front of me. Maybe hire someone else or find a more efficient way to make sandwiches. Tip: if you plan on eating here, call ahead and order, so you don’t have to wait as long as I did.

I rarely do reviews, but when I do its because it either blows or it was the bomb! This place is the bomb! Had a great experience eating at this joint. Dave the owner is the man. Cool guy who has a hospitable attitude, very rare in this world. The food was excellent! Ordered the rosemary turkey and Hodge podge. Dave was even gracious enough to make us a third sandwich on the house(and 2 baguettes) just so he won’t have to waste any of the bread that will eventually be thrown away at closing. Who does that?!? Thanks for an enjoyable experience. We’ll definitely be back!
