The environment is really nice. Can be a little hectic during weekends. I’ve dined here many times and it’s my go to spot when I go to Mitsuwa Marketplace. Everything on the menu is extremely delicious. For a food court establishment they put a lot of care into their food.

Tired of Santouka’s excellent ramen at Mitsuwa Marketplace? Want to try something else? Recommend Wateishoku Kaneda right next to it. They have excellent meals, particularly grilled fish. Their grilled mackeral lunch combo is so fresh and its natural flavor comes through well — great way to get your omega-3’s! Also comes with miso soup, rice, and oshinko, for about 10 bucks. Plenty of food for the price. Their grilled salmon is similarly excellent and a great deal as well.

Im gonna rate this a good 5 star since i always enjoy their beef bowl here :) I’am also a big fan of their next door neighbor Santouka. They serve excellent ramen!

One of the Japanese restaurants within the Mitsuwa Marketplace. I went during lunch on a weekend. Be prepared to wait on long lines and definitely grab and save your seats and table if you’re with a group. This place and the other eateries in the marketplace do not serve to go containers. So order as much as you can eat; otherwise it goes to the trash. Also, remember, cash is king, so bring plenty of it. They have a display with plastic replicas of the food items on the menu. I ordered the grilled mackerel that comes with miso soup, rice and a few sides. It was so delicious. I’ve never been to Japan, but I assume this may be the closest to Japanese cuisine in NJ. Don’t expect to order any sushi. They serve mostly rice dishes with meat and sides, and broth with noodles, meat and veggies. Customer service isn’t the best. They have one dedicated cashier, two servers, and one long line. But, the wait is worth it.

I love coming to the this market because of the variety of Asian affordable food. It’s been a while since I’ve been here for an actual meal and unfortunately I was a little disappointed. I got the curry udon soup. The portions are healthy, the noodles are cooked well, and the curry doesn’t overwhelm the broth but rather ads a subtle kick. The disappointing part is that I found a foreign objective in my food. They also don’t take cash and don’t offer their soups to go :( I will be back to try other restaurants in the market but likely not retuning here.

I had the fried oyster curry. It came with three oyster pieces on a plate of white rice, with a gravy boat holding the curry on the side. Three small sides(burdock, edamame, and orange), were provided. The entrée itself was smaller than I was expecting, but the taste was pretty good. The curry was smooth and rich, though for the oyster I thought the flavor was a bit covered up by the fried batter.

it’s sad that fellow Unilocalers did not enjoy food from this place. So far we have tried the Chicken Karage platter and really liked it. Good: The Chicken Karage Platter: The platter comes with rice, really crispy seasoned chicken, miso soup, edamame, pickled radish, two dipping sauces and slice of orange. The chicken and rice and is definitely much better than a similar dish at Tokyo Hanten(fried chicken with Rice and omelette). Bad: sometimes the wait is unusually long, even when there are no crowds. Ugly: nothing so far

Average food, for an average price. But the sides were not very good and very salty. Also sometimes there’s really slow service, but at least the people are nice.

The rice was my favorite part of my tonkatsu meal. Why? Because I love sticky white rice. And also… you know the little cups they give you for soy sauces when you order take out? That’s where my «potato salad» was in. And I say«potato salad» in quotes because there was nothing potato or salad-y about it. It was just watered down mayo. Nothing but mayo. WTF are they kidding? They give wayyyyy too much bland salad and a teaspoon of dressing in one of those plastic cups, again. Actually, the slice of a probably 3-day old orange was my second favorite part of my meal.

I love going to Mitsuwa. If you have no idea what Mitsuwa is, read my review about it because if you’re crazy about Japanese food and goodies, you’ll want to drive yourself over to Edgewater and get yourself a good olé bowl of ramen and onigiri. Kaneda is inside the food court area of Mitsuwa. I think Kaneda and Santouka(the ramen joint near it) are probably the two most popular and will probably run you a 15 – 20 minute wait if you’re in Mitsuwa during rush hour(which is usually 6:00PM and beyond on Saturday nights). But totally worth it. They’ll call your order on the loudspeaker, but it’s a bit muffled for me to hear so I usually just wait by where the food is prepared. I ordered the #6– the chicken cutlet platter. Each platter I believe comes with a miso soup, pickled radish, a little carrot cup, rice, salad, an orange, edemame, and three sauces. The chicken cutlet is fried in yummy panko bread crumbs and the sauces truly compliment the dish. Yum, yum! And all for $ 9.90 too. Snag yourself a seat in the food court area, but note, if there’s no seats, walk towards the cashiers and there’s usually seats there. Love this place and would definitely come back.

Majority of their mains were fried. I had the fried seafood mix; fried shrimp, salmon, and two fried oysters for only $ 12, tax included. The sides were different, in a not-good way, from the window sample. Potato salad was switched to marinated tomato with Gari(sushi ginger), really bad. Oshinko(pickled fresh vegetables) became from the store bought. Greasy fries were fine, especially oysters, but the oil in the crust made too heavy and not enjoyable. Whole market needs facelift; at least make it clean. The toilet was less than the ones in high ways.

I promised myself that I was going to steer away from Santouka Ramen this time around at Mitsuwa, and I’m so glad I stuck to my guns. I was lazy and didn’t want to go too far from my friend who was in line at Santouka, so I decided to try out Wateishoku Kaneda right next to them. So glad that I did, and so glad that the Unilocal reviews did not deter me from ordering. Pork Katsu was ohmygod, so good. The pork was incredibly tasty and juicy and was fried to perfection with very little oil residue. Loved the Katsu sauce and mayo on the side as well. I also ordered the Simmered Fatty Beef & Tofu and although looks were disappointing, flavor made up for everything. The order also had spinach and yam noodles inside a delicious dashi broth. Both our orders came with a side of roasted edamame and seaweed, pickled veggies, and miso soup each. Yummm!

This stall has been a teishoku stall for as long as I can remember although the names have changed every few years(the most recent incarnation was Kayaba before Kaneda took over). Menu items are standard Japanese don fare: curry, grilled fish, fried chicken. Portion sizes are decent and the quality is always fairly consistent. Depending on the day, the stall can be understaffed causing major delays in getting food out. A pretty good food court option for those who are looking for standard Japanese fare.

Can’t complain for food court fare. Ordered the udon and it can out fast. The beef was a little tough and could have used more flavoring but the noodles were cooked perfectly.

Chicken katsu was amazing. It came with three different sauces, a few sides, rice and a cabbage salad. Loved all the flavors and for under $ 11 it was so worth it! I was there when a rude customer was asking to get his order and was complaining about everyone getting their order before his– so stuck up! Just wait like everyone else! Adding one star to that employee that kept his cool and continued to answer his questions in a polite matter. Must’ve been so awkward having that guy just stand right in front of you as you prepare the food. So much respect for him! Overall had a great experience here and will come again next time I’m in the area! Minus one star because the food models were a bit misleading with the sides I thought I was getting kimchi– and that’s kind of why I chose this place in the first place. But all forgiven because as I got closer it said on a sign that sides are going to differ.

Located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace. Awhile back, this used to be Kayaba. Decided to try this new place out and it was good. I love the presentation of the food but it lacked in the flavor department in some areas. Service was quick and friendly enough. Everything was fresh, which I appreciate.

If you’re crazy about Gyu Don like I am, then this is the place for you. This bowl of juicy, simmered beef over rice is good enough to pick you up no matter how bad your day or week is. Savory, tender, brothy goodness. Depending on my mood, sometimes I ask for extra beef($ 2 more) or I tell them to put extra broth on top, to make it that much more saucy and delicious. Sprinkle a little bit of togarashi powder in it, and you’re in heaven.

Solid, solid, solid place for Japanese deliciousness. As someone who are several thousand meals at Yoshinoia, I have a weak spot for Gyu-don, and even if it’s commercially produced gyu-don, it had to be proper gyu-don. Greasy with super thin beef and onions and rice with some toragashi sprinkled on the greasy rice. This place is on the mark. The chicken cutlet meal is also particular impressive with a health portion of perfectly fried dark meat chicken thighs with a veritable assortment of sides and accompaniments. It’s quick, cheapish, and delicious. Def worth a stop and a bite.

Not the greatest tonkatsu I’ve had. The pork wasn’t as tender and the sauces were a bit off. But for a fast food joint with quick service and a cost of $ 9.95, it’s worth a try if you’re sick of eating ramen. Meal comes with miso soup, rice, pork cutlet, lettuce and two sides of seaweed and some kind of tomato thing. The meal was as good as this review, which doesn’t say much on all fronts.

I’m really sad that this place replaced Kayaba. That was my go-to place to get Unagi-don. Wish this new place would put it back on the menu. The lines were considerably shorter here than the other places. To replace my Unagi Don, I ordered the Sukiyaki Curry instead, which I actually enjoyed quite a bit. The beef was a little dry, but it was very palatable soaked in the Japanese curry, which comes in a sizeable tureen. I think the sides kind of detract from the box, especially the spaghetti. It has to be one of the worst spaghetti I’ve tasted. Cold and sour for some reason. The portions were perfect for the price though. After finishing everything(except for the spaghetti), I was full and satisfied, but still able to eat a taiyaki from Oishinbo. Even though they are not as good as the previous store and no longer have Unagi-don, I would still come here to eat. In my opinion, nothing in Mitsuwa could be considered bad.
