Edmonds Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

I trained at Edmonds Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, AKA: Gracie Barra Edmonds for a little over two years. Prior to arriving on their mats, I had trained BJJ at other schools in the Renton/​Kent area.
I was referred to Edmonds BJJ by my coach from another BJJ affiliation because of the owners’ reputation in the BJJ community.
When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed not only by the instructors, but by all of the other students. The atmosphere was, and still is very relaxed and casual. During class, the instructors walk around and take time to ensure every student understand not just what is being taught, but the principles behind the movement, positioning, and control.
The instruction at Edmonds BJJ is easily at least on par with what you’d find at other BJJ schools. The classes offer a good amount of full body exercise and teach valuable lessons of self defense and problem solving that translate into every day life.
Unfortunately I moved away to Maple Valley and am no longer able to regularly attend classes at Edmonds, though I still make the journey up to train every now and then, and when I do I always feel welcomed as if I’d never left.
I’d recommend Edmonds to anyone interested in learning jiu jitsu. If you’re looking to get into better shape or learn an effective martial art, and make some new friends along the way, this is the place for you. It’s never too late to start and jiu jitsu really is for everyone.

The Instructor is Good for what he Teachs.
However their are some pros and con’s about this place.

Great instructors, (sometimes they talk way too much.)

Some people here seem cocky and mean…
they lack on (belt ranks.) i heard they *promote* once a year??? (seriously???) idk
Overall: i have mixed feelings. i don’t know weather, to stay or go. you decide below.
This is my opinion. But I feel.
there are about 7 white belts (that need their blue belt)
their are about 3 – 5 blue belts overdue for purple!!!
and 2 purple belts for brown… Most of these guys are really good.
You decide, either go somewhere else to train and be promoted… Or come to a gym that’s more focused on the technique. It’s up too you. All in all… It’s a very welcoming place. So before you judge! stop by and give it a try. life is short. So make it fun!

Great instructors, great workout!

Edmonds Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a gem of a place to train. Because I live on the opposite side of Seattle, I am only able to train here occasionally. Every time I stop by, Griff and John, the head instructors of the school, make me feel right at home, and they always take time to do some sparring with me and give me some useful insight on how to improve.
Because Griff and John are such skilled and friendly instructors, they have created a gym whose members are always enjoyable to train with. Many of the members began training at this gym, and have worked their way up the Jiu Jitsu ranks and are now quite skilled. This gym would be the perfect place to either start your Jiu Jitsu journey, or if you already have lots of experience, to sharpen your skills.

I started only a short while ago on a whim. I was looking for something to break up my normal workout routine and discovered this school in Firdale Village. Having no experience, I was slightly intimidated when I first walked through the door to check the gym out. My reservations and doubts were cast aside after I was welcomed by Griff and the rest of the class. Everybody was very cool, making it a very inviting place to those of different backgrounds and physical abilities.
I strongly encourage anybody to drop by Edmonds BJJ for a class. The excellent instruction, strong sense of community, and the fun of learning BJJ will keep you coming back.

I have never done Jiu-​Jitsu before coming here, but would recommend Edmonds BJJ to anyone looking for a way to stay active, or learn a martial art.
If you show up, here are 3 ways you will benefit by checking out Edmonds BJJ:
1. Shed a few extra pounds and get physically fit.
2. Make new friends, and be involved in an environment of encouraging people who want to see you grow and progress.
3. Learn the legendary martial art that popularized the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)

I love this gym. You do not have to be bored at the end of every day. You don’t have to sit in front of your Television angry because the only thing you had to look forward to was another season of LOST. JOIN THIS GYM. YOU WILL LOVE IT. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE has a place here. The environment is comfortable and the instruction is simple to understand.

I have been training in grappling arts, (including Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu), for several years. I moved over a year ago and had been searching for a place to throw a gi on and train near my new residence. By chance, I found Edmonds Brazilian Jiu-​jitsu tucked away in Firdale Village. I met with Griff and he welcomed me with open arms. Since then, I have been making it to classes as often (3 or 4 times a week) as I can for about the past month or so.
Griff is an excellent instructor that has the unique balance between knowledge, teaching ability and charisma. His classes flow well and even a seasoned BJJ veteran like myself learns something new with every class.
The school vibe is excellent! All of the students are very diverse and very friendly. There is a real family feel to the school, where everyone helps each other out and strives to make one another better. There are no egos!
The location is very convenient if you live in Southwest Snohomish County/​Northwest King County, right off of 244 ST SW/​NW 205 ST in Firdale Village. Parking is ample and the school is equipped with premium mats and wall padding. The school is also affiliated with the world famous Gracie Barra Team, so there are often guest students, instructors, and trips to train at the other schools around the area.
I would recommend Edmonds Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu to anyone from the seasoned competitor to the novice weekend warrior. It is an excellent place to learn the art!
