Avoid this place like the plague at night. It seems to be staffed by complete morons. The service is crap, and they seem to be only concerned about getting back home. And the night manager has a very serious problem with the truth. And she appears to be eating too much of the goods, so to speak…

Visiting my husbands family in the St. Louis area, we all ventured on a trip across Illinois to Indiana. On our way, the kids were hungry and we all needed a stop to relax for a bit, since we were being cramped in an RV for 3 hours. The in-laws were raving about Culver’s and how it was comparable to In-N-Out. and because we were from So Calif, the hubbster and I thought. lets go for it! Well, it was an impostor and in very fatty taste. FIRST thing FIRST: This is a total locals spot. Everyone who knows everyone is there. Of course the hubbster and I being from«out-of-town» really did give notice. I felt I could hear the record player scratch… anyways we got over all the looks and began to order. I couldn’t help but notice though. nothing on the menu was similar to In-N-Out.(except for the shakes) We had gone ahead with the high recommendation of the Double Butter Burger with Bacon — we thought why the heck not? Fatty and delectable, it was nasty but in a good way. The hubbster enjoyed it, and since we split it, we found to be the only people in the place that had it that way. I also had a grilled chicken and strawberry salad, which was tame enough, chicken was juicy, but the salad was very wilted. My nieces adored the lemon custard so much that I went with as well and found it to be way too tart for my taste, but it was refreshing. Perks: Good deal on $ for food. For both the hubbster and I, all of our consumption including drinks was under $ 20 — not a bad deal. This location has plenty of room for truck and RV parking, as well as clean bathrooms. Downsides: Very crowded and tight dining area. Awesome TIP: Those cheese curds were actually very tasty! I would come back just for those! OverALL: Meh. I know I am a picky eater, but this is definitely a hit or miss with taste and calories, however, it is a great place to stop on a long distance drive from state to state.

Thoroughly impressed with Culver’s. Had the deluxe with fries and frozen custard. Everything was excellent. Down home country burger places like this are a dying breed and that’s a shame. I will definitely stop here on my next road trip.

Regional fast food is the best kind. The first time we stopped here was when we were traveling with a cat in the summer. We needed to eat at a place with outdoor tables so we could take her out of the hot car. Culver’s? Sure, they’ve got ice cream. Oh, look, they have food! Since then it’s been a regular stop on our road trips. They offer a variety of dishes beyond burgers, including some tasty vegetable sides. Originally started in Wisconsin, they’re heavy on the dairy products– cheese curds! so much ice cream! As others have said, I don’t know what it is about this one that is working so well, but the people working there are very friendly and helpful.

Locally owned with lots of smiles and fresh food. The prices here run a little more than your average fast food, but I would say they’re well worth it. Generous portions and pretty fast service considering everything is made to order. This local company also donates to anything and everything within our community. Good people.

One of the things that I don’t like about Interstate travel is the small hillbilly hick towns you have to travel through. Many of these places lack diversity and their closest interaction with other cultures is either what they see on TV or a traveler passing through for gas, food or to use the restroom. A glowing example of such a town would be Effingham, IL. Went to this Culver’s in Effingham in route to an out of town visit with family in Missouri. From the moment we walked in we got that feeling of being unwelcome. The cashier, Tiara, was TOTALLY, TOTOTALLY unpleasant and absolutely refused to say thank you, even after I said thank you 3 times. Little young racist girl has a lot to learn about life. I won’t say not to frequent this place, but just know that you have other options when you hit that exit ramp. Anyone can make allegations, I’m backing mine with a copy of my receipt.

This is definitely several steps above your average fast food place. The burger came with red onions which was impressive. I was lucky enough to get a free sampling of their m&m sprinkled ice cream.

Best Burger I ever had. I am a HUGEHUGE fan of In-n-out burger and Five Guys, but this place out does both of them. It isn’t even close. I took a trip from Texas to Washington DC and I hit this place twice on the drive. I was very impressed both times. It is a must try in my opinion

This place is what fast food should be long to be, from the food, to the customer service, to the cleanliness of the place. It just doesn’t get any better than this. This place is always super clean! I love it about them. The floors and tables are spotless and the bathrooms are super clean too. The quality of the food is great too. They are famous for their butter burgers and ice cream. I have never had a bad meal from here. I am kind of picky about hamburger meat, but this is not a worry here. They use great quality ingreidanets and it shows. The customer service is awesome too. You place your order then go find a place to sit. When your food is ready, they bring it to your table. Anytime we have needed anything, they are polite and quick to help you out. You can tell these people really enjoy working here. Keep up the great work!

What’s special about Effingham? Well, like other Unilocalers have found, it’s a natural stopping point between Chicagoland and Memphis. And for me, I can say I had my first Culver’s milk shake in Effingham. Wow, it reminded me of the goodness at the Indy State Fair. So good, and not too sweet. Now every time I step into a Culver’s, it may be hard to resist, even for a guy with a pot belly to work off.

During a long drive from Chicago to Memphis I needed a car break and some food. After miles and miles of no options for food other than a McDonalds I saw a giant billboard advertising this location. Since I always enjoy Culvers I stopped here and it hit the spot. Same good food and service that I have found at all the other locations I’ve stopped at.
