I went there with my buddy craving some good bbq. We ordered the two meat plate with 4 sides. There was barely any meat on the plate. The rib was bland and almost all fat. The brisket was very mediocre. The sides were terrible as well(cornbread, rice, macaroni). We also split a sausage hot link sandwich and it was awful. I don’t understand why the cook would serve this crap. Oh their bbq sauce was a watered down sweet teriyaki sauce or whatever the hell it was. We tried their homemade cookies and they were great; if you like stale, toothpaste tasting cookies. 32 dollars worth of bad food and small portions. Save yourself the money and stomach space.

Wanted to try some new bbq and after reading the positive reviews on Unilocal a friend and I decided to give bbq amor a try. What a mistake that was!!! We decided to get the bbq lovers plate. For $ 18 you get 2 meats and 4 sides. Sounds like a good deal, right? Wrong! I’ve never seen a smaller portion of meat in my entire life. I got ribs and brisket. There were 2 small ribs and 1 oz of brisket which was all fat. The 4 sides were Mac n cheese, 2 sides white rice and cornbread. Everything was bland. Another mistake we made was to split the sausage link sandwich. This was the worst sausage I’ve ever had. No flavor and wasn’t juicy at all. Their«bbq sauce» is hard to explain. It’s like water with some seasoning in it. You’d be better off buying dollar store brand bbq sauce. Don’t eat the cookies!!! Trust me!!! Their website says«You’ll never forget your first time!» Hahaha that’s actually true. Over $ 30 for everything. Biggest waste of money I’ve ever spent in my entire life. What a disappointment. I don’t see how anybody can give this place positive reviews.

Glad to have a viable BBQ option in El Cajon! Dave and his crew smoking up some decent ribs, brisket and pork right across the street from the El Cajon Police Dept. on Magnolia. So if you have jury duty or are asked«will the defendant please rise» but can make bail, this is great lunch spot for you! WHENYOUGO– Brisket is king at Amor. Delicious bark, nice and juicy, this could be my favorite brisket in East Cty. Ribs and sausages are a solid offering as well. I do have to agree with Randy that the pulled pork is a little on the mushy side– great flavor but the consistency is just… mushy. The baked beans have been a little different on every trip, but they all have had morsels of brisket mixed in for that dirty baked beans experience(love it). All in all, BBQ Amor is tasty, reasonable and friendly. Go there for lunch today!

I went to BBQ Amor with a buddy for lunch and being somewhat of a BBQ snob, I was excited after reading many of the reviews. Argh… I’m not enjoying writing this… Ok, we both had the brisket plates with three sides, which for me was coleslaw, baked beans and the mac-n-cheese. I also need to add that our choices were limited since the ribs would not be ready for another three hours. The brisket had a good flavor, but was slightly dry. The thing that really bothered me is the fact that it was cold which was disturbing to me. Being an avid BBQer this tells me that I was eating leftovers. Beans had a good flavor, but again… Ice cold! Leftovers again? The mac-n-cheese was decent and up to temp. Coleslaw was decent. The sauce is sort of a cross between a Texas basting sauce and a Lexington style«dip». I’ve eaten BBQ all over the country and sauce is very, very regional. My hats off to the pit master of this place for making a sauce that he is familiar with, but having grown up in SoCal I can say with confidence that Californians like a thicker sauce, like they have in KC. I like the idea of the two vinegar based sauces, but I think the addition of a thicker sauce would be a hit. The place was clean and the young man that took our orders and served us was very personable. I’m reading reviews talking about the price being«very reasonable». We paid $ 32 for the two plates with two cans of soda. I felt the price was on the high side. Now, if the BBQ would have blown my doors off, I would have been a little more accepting of this. Hoping we hit this place on an off day. I’m willing to give this place another go… But bro… Use your leftover brisket in your beans. When I order brisket, I’m expecting meat that was cooking in the pit overnight. It should be piping hot at lunchtime! I’m really hoping you guys get it right!

The ribs were dry, the pulled pork was diced, we ordered 2 baked beans and we got yams and black beans, the corn bread was hard and old, the mac and cheese was dry. I would of gave it one star but my wife said it wasnt bad. I think it was bad. It had 4.5 stars with no one in it. I can see why no ones in it, but i can’t see 4.5 stars. Plus the bbq sauce was not sauce, it was marinate. Don’t eat there, they have poor ventilation. They have a smoker in another room that doesn’t have a vent attached to it. So excess smoke goes into the dining room. I could see the smoke rolling out of smoker and into th3 dining area. I smell like smoke and i didnt cook.

I wanted to love this place. :/I got a plate with brisket, potato salad, Mac n cheese, and baked beans. The meat was decent. The sides weren’t. The Mac n cheese was really, the beans were burnt with crunchy charred pieces, and the potato salad had way too much mayo. My husband got a plate with rib tips which were also ok. His cole slaw looked and tasted like something you shouldn’t be eating. As for the sauce, I don’t even know what was going on there. Normally you get barbecue sauce at a barbecue place. This stuff was liquid and had barely any flavor. We paid $ 31 for all of that crappy food. Go to Coop’s, don’t go here!

Price: The price is very reasonable. You absolutely get what you pay for. Quality: The food is fresh and prepared well. This is true BBQ. The best BBQ I have had in San Diego. BBQ is an art and they do it well. Service: The service is fantastic. The staff is friendly and kind. They understand what good customer service is and they provide it. Bottomline: If you love real BBQ, you will love this place. Go support a great local, small business.

Have been eyeing this place for a while. I love bbq and this place DOESNOT disappoint! The brisket and rib tips are perfectly smoked, juicy, fork tender, and the rib meat literally falling off the bone with the bbq sauce on the side. And the sauce is sooooo on point. Great flavor with a hint of spice. My sides were Baked Beans and loaded Corn on the Cob. Equally as delicious and flavorful as their meats! I love finding hole in the wall/mom & pop restaurants that do food justice… the people who are in charge at BBQ Amor def knows how to do bbq the right way!

Looking for BBQ? This is a must try. Small local shop in El Cajon delivers on flavor! Small menu, big taste and plenty of good cooking. I tried the brisket & was impressed with the tenderness & flavor. The beans were very flavorful. Will be trying the ribs next!

My wife and I stopped in just after noon on a Friday. The restaurant was empty of customers. We were greeted in a very friendly manner and were shown the menu. They are still using the grand opening menu until 10⁄01. We chose the Pulled Pork and Brisket meals. They are served on roll or in a basket. Two sides were included. We chose potato salad, coleslaw(X2) and baked beans. Pulled Pork was delicious, tender, and flavorful on its own. The bbq sauce offered on the side was not needed but did add to the flavor. The Brisket was tender with the right amount of fat/meat ratio. It was tender, flavorful and could also be eaten without the side sauce. The sweet sauce was flavorful but very watery in viscousity. It would tend to soak the roll if too much was used. The sides were good but were quite small in size… really not more than a bite or two. Coleslaw was crisp, fresh with a bit of a bite at the end. This was not a creamy slaw but more of a vinegary based slaw. The potato salad was good but average and mustard based. The baked beans left me really conscious of the small portion. It left me really wanting more so that I could truly geta feel for the flavor and savor it. The beans were a thick, molasses based item with plenty of bacon/brisket mixed in. It had just a tad bit of a bite after. Overall we had a pleasant experience, and would recommend it to others.

Real smoked BBQ meats are in order when you visit this place which is good because I’m tired of those places that try to pass grilled on oven baked meats as BBQ. BBQ Amor uses Hickory wood on their pork cuts and Mesquite on their beef. I took of advantage of their $ 10 meal deal. I ordered the port rib tips with a side of macaroni and cheese and their house baked beans. The rib tips were not only smoked just right and had a great smoke ring, but were served with a very good ration of meat to fat. The meat was tender and provided and easy chew and pull of the bone. The ends and exterior of the tips had a nice amber and BBQ color. The fatty portions of the tips were quite succulent and packed with that porky goodness flavor. I really liked that they did not douse them in BBQ sauce but allowed me to control the sauce via a bottle. The Baked Beans were very good, and the first thing I noticed was that the seasoning was great. In addition to the beans being tender to the touch, the seasoning provided a few levels of flavor. The beans also came with tender morsels of house smoked bacon or pork belly which no doubt took the beans to new heights. I could of eaten a whole bowl of these beans and then some. Well done, and I would order these again. The Macaroni and cheese had good flavor, but I would of liked of seen the cheese have a better liquid viscosity. They use real cheddar so the cheese tended to congeal and adhere to the elbow pasta. The flavor was good, but if that cheese were more runny and piping hot, the mac would of been bliss. They owner and chef, including his employees were are all very friendly and hospitable. They sure wanted to make sure you were a happy customer and that is a very good thing. The most interesting fact about the owner and chef is that he is an individual who has gone from construction worker to BBQ connaisseur. Congrats and great story!

Came back to try the rib tips I missed out on & was not disappointed. Rib tips should be fatty & meaty and when done right very tasty. Because of the nature of rib tips, they vary in size, texture, consistency, meatiness & fattiness all off the same rack. It’s this variety that makes rib tips a favorite at times when you want to taste the whole gamut a rib has to offer. These rib tips had a good bark, the variety of texture, meatiness & fattiness you look for in rib tips & a good smoke flavor base. Good stuff.

this place is LEGIT! it’s a bit far for me to drive out to El Cajon, but it’s definitely good BBQ if you’re in the area. I ordered the rib tips. The smoke flavor of the meat was just right, and you can actually taste the meat. I really like their sauce — more liquidy than traditional bbq sauce, but the flavor is fantastic. I want them to bottle that sauce so I can bring it home! Compare with Phil’s, I am so over Phil’s bbq and their sauce. You can’t even taste Phil’s meat under that sauce… BBQ amor is brand new so they are still working out a few kinks with orders and wait time. But they are definitely on the fast track to one of San Diego’s best BBQ places!

Good BBQ, Good flavor, and for a good price. They have a grand opening menu and I hope they continue to keep the good prices and quality food when they have a more permanent menu. They just opened recently so there is a little they need to work on, but overall it was very good. I will check back in with them, and update my review as they get more established.

I had to write about BBQ Amor one more time because I have eaten there almost every day since they opened and asked David the Manager if they would be willing to make my food orders low carb with lettuce wrap and cut off the fat on the brisket to cut calories. I was pleasantly surprised that David said«No problem.» David said he and Becky, the owner are very willing to prepare low carb meals and BBQ amour is very happy to accommodate people with special dietary requests. I was so pleased David and Becky were so open to my request because when I asked the owner of McDonald’s on Fletcher Parkway to make a low carb, natural wrap/lettuce wrap, I got a lecture about how busy they are and they could not/would not use lettuce instead of a bun! I love how BBQ Amor is interested in taking care of customers and is willing to take the extra steps for those of us who are trying to eat healthy!
