Really good, they even made a special sushi roll for my mom, she told them what she liked and made her a great roll, reading the reviews I was worried about ordering, but I am glad I did, give them a try

This place is your typical El Paso sushi place… Cream cheese in half the rolls, Tampico paste in the other half, and various chiles sprinkled throughout. I happened to have a craving for that today, so here I am. The décor and ambience is really nice here. I’d like to see it at night. The service here is really great too. I was greeted at the door, told I could sit wherever I wanted and given a menu promptly. I ordered miso soup, yakimeshi with Tampico paste and the Benetton roll. All came out quickly and at the right temperature! I will certainly be back here next time I’m craving some Tampico paste with my sushi. Maybe at night time so I can check out the bar. I probably wouldn’t bring anybody from California here, but certainly anybody who wanted to see what«el paso» sushi is like.

I’ve passed Katsura many a time, but didn’t go until this past Sunday because my favorite sushi place was closed. Katsura’s sign is definitely eye catching since it pops out on the corner of a strip mall, but from the outside it’s really hard to tell what the inside will be like. Any fears I had of horridly, decrepit hole-in-the-wall were immediately washed away when I walked into a well decorated Japanese restaurant with dark reds and blacks, lots of symmetry, and tons of perfect geometric shapes. Pretty. Service was a little ehh, but we got there when they had just opened so it was a little understandable. There was nothing really anything about it that was bad per se, just a little slow. Katsura definitely offers a variety of plates. Also with a lot of interesting rolls. The menu itself was kind of different… almost Americanized which kind of makes this the perfect place to take someone who has never had sushi or isn’t familiar with Japanese food. We started with the tempura stuffed mushrooms. These were pretty good, but for $ 7 I thought the portion was small(only five mushrooms with a side of spicy mayo). I’d order it again, but probably get another appetizer if I was planning on sharing. Sometimes I really like dressed up rolls that have fillers galore and sauces for days and other times I just want a simple roll that is just about the fish, Katsura leans more towards the dressed up rolls. I wanted something a little less flamboyant so I went with the Paradise roll. I really enjoyed this roll. Just tuna with avocado, topped with salmon. It was a $ 9 or $ 10 roll and came with ten pieces. Very decent price for the quality and quantity. The average price for rolls seemed like they were all around $ 10. My fiancé ordered a roll and a steak maki plate. He wasn’t so impressed by the roll, I think the avocado, cucumber, and cream cheese kind of washed out the flavor of the crab. His maki plate was a perfect ten though. I’m not entirely sure what exactly the plate was called, but they wrapped thin pieces of steak around thin cut bell peppers all sitting in a teriyaki sauce with a side of rice. The portion was large so I was able to steal quite a few bites. Katsura is a pretty good spot with decent pricing. I’m more interested in trying all the different dishes they offer, but I’m sure the next time I go I’ll still order another roll. Everything was fresh and good quality so some of their more interesting rolls might be fun when I’m feeling adventurous.

You ever have a craving that lasts for so long, that you end up just wanting to get anything that closely resembles it? Ever since they closed down my favorite sushi place here in El Paso(Yamatos…r.i.p =() i have been craving their super delish Yakimeshi with vegetables. I know what you are going to say, «But Sherman! there are tons of amazing sushi places in El Paso!», i won’t deny the fact that we do indeed have a pretty good selection of places, sadly I’m super picky when it comes to my sushi and stubborn to boot. Unless someone takes me to a new sushi place, both the fear of not liking it and spending monies on it, are things that prevent me from trying out new spots(silly i know). Fortunately for me i was cruising up Mesa when i remembered a place that my girlfriend had recommended we go. Katsura is located in the shopping center right before Festival street, a place i know too well since i used to live up in the Santa Fe Place(shoutout!) apartments. we had gone and tried out some stuff and were pleasantly pleased by the place. It did seem rather… empty? Eh we figured we just went at an off time or something and didn’t give it much though. Today tho, me and me mah arrived there to have a bit of lunch and talk about how the week had been so far. We were nicely greeted by the Sushi Chef since there seemed to be an absence of a Hostess at the time. He nicely told us we could pick whichever seat we wanted, we sat down and were promptly greeted by our server who kindly informed us that he would be right back with our menus but welcome to the restaurant. Saturday at 4pm and besides a group of about 6 people, we were the only ones in the restaurant. We got our drinks and i quickly ordered some rolls(Alan Special and a california + shrimp roll) that my mom could partake in, she isn’t much of a fan of sushi but she’ll try anything with crab and shrimp in it. We got our drinks promptly and the food was brought out at a considerable time. The miso soup we had before the meal was good, but the flavor seemed a bit bland. The rolls were of course delicious and their Yakimeshi had improved since the last time i ordered it. The only real gripe i had with the place was the fact that when i requested change for a $ 10 so that i could leave a tip, they informed me they had none. Now, i’m pretty sure that any establishment that seems as slow as this one is should at least have everything ready and in place in order to better service the few customers they get. Sadly that was not the case. i really want to like you Katsura, your rolls are good albeit a dollar or two more than i would pay for them, the ambiance is a nice one, you offer a full bar, and your location is a cute one. But, there is always something missing when i go, although I’ll give my server this, he was the nicest server i have had in quite some time. If you are in the area drop by and check em out, hopefully they have a full staff in order to serve you the way i know they can serve. Oh and bring change just in case. P. S. I rate them a 3.5. It would have been a 3 but the server today was just on point! Kudos to that guy.

first time coming to this restaurant. I was greeted by the hostess and seated promptly. it wasn’t too busy at the time that my boyfriend and I went in but it became busy shortly after our arrival. the girl who served us was very polite and nice(: definitely made the experience 10 times more better! my boyfriend and I ordered calamari and 2 sushi rolls. the calamari was delectable along with the sauce that came on the side! and the sushi was delicious as well! we live super close by and I’m so glad we discovered it. new regular customers!

Pros: nice bar area, had live entertainment the night we went, service was quick and helpful, food is well priced, everything was fresh Cons: a lot of the sushi rolls have cream cheese in them, which I tend not to like, all the sushi was good, but I thought a bit on the bland side– nothing a bit of wasabi couldn’t improve though

Food was excellent, drinks and service leave a lot to be desired. Ordered a vodka martini and received a bright red drink smothered with grenadine. We were asked if we would like a refill of our water at the very end of our meal rather than during it, and no dirty plates were removed from our table. Everything sat there until the end despite piling up. Sushi was great but the experience was awkward and unfulfilling.

We finally decided to try out katsura and we’re incredibly disappointed with the food, so much so, that we could not bring ourselves to eat it as much as take it to go for an animal to eat. We could not call this sushi or even edible food. Our experience was so bad that any time we think of sushi our stomachs turn. Please save yourself the time and money. Wish we had…

Nice atmosphere :) we got there right when they opened and the waiter was prompt and courteous. I liked the décor a lot, very trendy but not jarring :) the food was nicely presented but I had a slight misunderstanding, I ordered fried rice with veggies but it had egg in it and I don’t eat egg, but I should have said something about that when I ordered. My husband got some awesome looking sushi rolls and the wasabi was in the shape of a little leaf :) miso soup was really good, just basic miso with some green onion and I think a tiny bit of seaweed, it was tiny flakes. All and all nice dining experience. Sushi in El Paso has definitely improved.

Good food and very nice restaurant layout. But the service is really bad, there where literally three tables and our order took around 40 minutes. The music made me feel like I was in the club, in my opinion I don’t think that is the best option for a restaurant of this kind. Hope this helps my fellow Unilocalers!

Super dark inside. Horrible Juarez club type disco music playing. The ramen soup too salty. Fried rice was ok. Nothing really memorable about the food. Can’t get that shitty music out of my brain.

Nice restaurant. It has a wide selection in rolls as well as other food — if you don’t like sushi. They also have a dine in lunch special. Con: the roll I ordered had double rice inside the roll & outside — did not like that. Eel sauce is good! It is located in a small shopping center — easy parking. Friendly staff :)

So I saw they opened close to my house so I’m giving this place a try. And that was the last time that ill be going there. The restaurant is beautiful in itself, the staff were kind. I look at the menu and its so hard to read, descriptions of items in the dark of the menu colors. I ordered a fail safe spicy tuna, traditional ungi cone and a Phoenix roll. The bring me out a cup of miso soup first, guess it was included, but it was so dirty and gritty, not that good. I get the spicy tuna roll and well it ok not that great, then they bring out the unagi cone and its not even cut. I wasn’t about to pick it up with my hand and have everything fall out so I asked them to cut it and they were happy to oblige. Finally the Phoenix roll that I thought was going to great but no it was anything but that. All in all I give this place a level above the sushi that is offered at Chinese buffets, and a level below grocery sushi. I’m sorry but I won’t be going back.

Every sushi we have tried is great! I like the danna roll and the sea snake. My wife lives the Bermudez. We tried the wings and they are great!
