Really good food — we kept it simple for late lunch. Fish baskets had fresh local fish, nicely breaded, both fires and chips were crisp and fresh. Side cabbage salad and tartar sauce both were with a good twist and delish! Very nice variety of gourmet beers supplied by smaller breweries. Kids macaroni was made from scratch and our 2 fussy eaters gobbled it up! Service was very friendly and attentative. Great find! Décor is lacking for now however they are moving in a couple months to a freshly remodeled building.

I had high hopes and was a little let down. Calamari is our standard dish we use to compare restaurants and we just weren’t blown away.

They think their beer list is impressive. It is long(20 beers on tap) but just meh in selection. The food was ok. I had the Bison burger. It was a bit on the dry side because it was over cooked. I asked for medium and got medium well. Because of the lower fat content it has v. beef it really dries out if you over cook it. 4 people at our table got the signature Chubby Trout of the menu. They all report only meh. The stuffing is listed as shrimp stuffing. No one saw any shrimp. Veggies were way over salted. One person at our table ordered sushi. She reported it was only fair. The service was horrific. Every single person had something wrong with their meal or drink order. The original waitress was basically eventually replaced with a different waitress or manager who did apologize. However, other than an apology no effort was made to «make it right». Throw in a free dessert or something and a table is likely to come back and try the place again. We are not likely to go back and try the place again. The cost of the meal for two of us was $ 50.00. For that price it just was not worth it.

First of all, skip the line and sit at the bar. Not only do you get to eat faster, but you also get to watch chef Gil put on one hell of a show. The wait staff is very friendly and the entire menu is on point. The sushi is fantastic… Really does wonders for the taste buds. Plus, he even made me my own social roll with raw qual egg. I’m going to definitely be a repeat offender here!!!

The food there is delicious. I’ve never been disappointed in anything I’ve ordered. Try the Chubby Trout! You won’t be disappointed.

Had lunch at Chubby Trout with a larger group, they were quite busy, but managed to easily acknowledge all of us as soon as we walked in the door, accommodated us quickly and gave great service– Shoutout to our server, Sarah,(I think!) Personally, I had the Sushi lunch combo and it was fantastic! My coworkers meals also were all very delicious looking, I would especially recommend the fish tacos!

First thing first, do not order Sushi here. Not worth it. As far as beverages go if you are into an adult beverage the grapefruit wheat beer is great. I am not a big fan of beer and I Loved it. We also ordered the Bison Ball appetizer and they we great but not enough for how much you pay for them. Also we order the tuna appetizer which was good. Another person we were with order a burger which is ok and also another person ordered the fried shrimp which was good. This place was not anything to rant and rave about but good for lunch. Probably better for dinner as I feel like the lunch was a lil overpriced.

Stopped in on a Monday night. Half price Sushi. Place was packed. First time we were here. We were told that every Monday is crazy because of the sushi deal. The problem is that they only have 1 Sushi chef so it takes about an hour to get an order filled. It is a relatively small place so one can understand that they don’t have 2 sushi chefs available for one night. That said, the sushi was fine and, at ½ price a pretty good deal. Wife had crab bisque, which she enjoyed, and a perch dinner. Only complaint was that the breading on the perch filets, which are small anyway, was a bit too heavy. The portion was fine and the homemade chips were the bomb. The coleslaw, vinegar and dill base, was very tasty. Service was very good. Only thing that kept the rating from being higher was the long wait, we would return if we lived nearby.

If you are a minority, stay far away from this place. They treat you with disrespect and they make it clear to minorities that they don’t want your business… These are«White Only Trouts.» If Trump wins the presidential elections, they will be first in line to do his catering for the Victory Party.

Had a reservation seated right away, but waited a very long time to see our waitress. Caribbean chicken sandwich had just a bit of spice with sweetness of the pineapple and smoke of the bacon. Chips were crispy and crunchy, done right. Cannot go wrong when ordering the carrot cake.

My family and I just literally left this restaurant completely disappointed and appalled, if I could give this place zero stars I would. We literally arrived at the establishment right as it opened at 5pm eager to try out the place. We were seated immediately and noticed there were only two other tables with patrons at them, so we assumed we’d be able to order & eat quickly. It took us about 15 min to order and we noticed the place was starting to fill up. Our order entailed sushi, a baked salmon, and a medium steak. Literally on the worst day those meals would take 25−35min but nope we waited until 6:25pm and had not received anything! I let the waitress know we were leaving and magically as we were walking out they brought out some food that resembled what we had ordered, to say I was livid is an understatement! We were the only table who had not received our food during that hr & a half span in fact three, THREE tables who were seated after us had finished their meals and we’re waiting on their check by the time we rose to leave. To make our wait even worse is the fact that we were the only patrons of color in the whole restaurant, note again that we were also the only patrons WITHOUT plates of food. Some of you will say«oh that doesn’t have anything to do with it» but I have to say I strongly disagree. If ever a person had waited 45min let alone an hr a manager would have been out explaining what was going on or apologizing or something of that nature but NO we had to ask for the manager, who then nonchalantly gave the lame excuse of «maybe the ticket was lost»(only our ticket was lost??) C’mon literally every other table had food & our waitress had been back to the kitchen more than once letting us know the food would be out soon. You should really come up with a better excuse as a manger then that, so at this point I was completely through but then the manger had the audacity to say«oh well we’ll take care of the bill», I literally wanted to slap the young lady for even having the gall to think WE were going to pay for food we never even got to TOUCH let alone EAT! I literally looked at her as if she were insane and said very politely but emphatically«I’m sure you all will be taking care of it, as we certainly WONT be.» And as she offered to box up the food I just looked at her truly disgusted and gathered my mother with me letting that young lady know that we didn’t want anything where we clearly weren’t wanted and that we will NEVER be back in there. If my mother and grandmother hadn’t been present that manager would have gotten much choicer words. So just word to the wise I wouldn’t patron a place that treats people that way, spend your money elsewhere!

For the area, Chubby Trout is a good choice with a variety of options available on their menu. I’d pass on the fish tacos however. They’re built backwards with lettuce on bottom and lightly breaded fish strip on top. Mine arrived cold. :/Their sushi is usually pretty good, but I haven’t had it recently. I think they do a good job at offering different selections that aren’t always on their regular menu. I’d love to see more choices of locally sourced, cleaner/healthier options available as well. Elkhart is in need of places that serve this. If promoted well, people would be open to trying just as they have with craft beer trend. Cocktails and beer selection are good. Plenty of options. This is a favorite social hangout for locals and RV related business people as well.

This place is not what you would expect when you think awesome sushi! It’s a bar/restaurant that has a sushi chef working in a small corner at the bar. And on Monday nights they have half– price sushi. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is place is so busy and packed — on a Monday night(!!!) that it takes a while to get your food. The red dragon was fantastic!

I find that their food prices are a little higher than I think the food you get… but if you come for lunch, it’s as good as anywhere else for the money. Their sushi is very good as well. I strongly suggest the spicy tuna.

Used to love this place… That is until the quality consistently declined. The last time we were there to get sushi, we actually sent it back because the fish was warm and discolored and the wasabi was dried out and honestly appeared as if the unused portions from other plates were combined to form our wasabi ball. We were very disappointed with that experience but decided to give it another try. Unfortunately we were equally disappointed with the quality of our food and the horrible service at that next visit as well. We haven’t been back since and honestly probably will never waste our time again.

I love coming here for the ½ price sushi on Mondays. The idea of this place if a little funny. They serve American style seafood and with a name like Chubby Trout I was expecting your usual fried clams and white fish but the Sushi here is AWESOME. It is always delicious and they have a wide variety of sashimi and dozens of different styles of rolls. One top of the great food they have a really good selection of beer and mixed drinks.

They would have gotten 5 stars, but they are a bit over priced for what you get. The food was good, however it took a bit of time to get the food and there wasn’t many people in the restaurant. They have a decent bar area to eat and drink at if you prefer that. I still can’t figure out the sushi bar here. It doesn’t fit in with the rest of the food and restaurant. This place was recommended by the hotel for a good local restaurant, since this place is saturated with chain places.

Wanted this place to be better than it turned out to be; alas. I guess sushi in northern Indiana is too good to be true. They were out of miso soup, which was quite disappointing to my vegetarian daughter, and there were no simple vegetable rolls on the menu, so she ended up eating grilled cheese with edamame on the side. What kind of sushi restaurant is out of miso soup? I take this as a warning that most customers don’t venture to that side of the menu. Along the same vein, I ordered the seaweed salad, and it seemed — I’m not sure… out of a can? Not fresh? Definitely chewier than expected. I got the spicy tuna and chicago rolls, and they were… well, they weren’t terrible. Sushi miles from an ocean. The actual fish was good, but the total combination didn’t add up. Wasabi was really, really weak, too. Also worth noting that these are large inside-out style rolls(uramaki) made with lots of rice(a thicker layer than I think I’ve seen anywhere), so I ended up quite full.(How does that joke go? «The food wasn’t very good, and there was too much of it.») But meanwhile, my parents both ordered cooked fish dishes, and those seemed really good. Very attractive presentation, and nicely prepared. Oh, and I should add that the daily special,(raw) ahi tuna tostadas, were _awesome_— delicious and beautiful with edible flowers on top. Other observations: my daughter’s first remark was that the place smelled funny, and she was right(smelled kind of like lingering tar from years of cigarettes?) so we sat outside, which was nice, although the ambiance is more«tables along the parking lot» than«nice restaurant». Service was quite detached and relaxed — we didn’t see our server for many long stretches(and I’m not quite sure of the system — it seemed like each of the half-dozen outside tables had a _different_server?). And she was nice enough, but not particularly friendly or attentive or have much to say(we had to ask if there were any specials). If we were in a hurry, or really looking to be treated to friendly service, that would have been irritating, but we weren’t. So, bottom line here is that there’s some good stuff, but don’t get your hopes up about the sushi — or the atmosphere.

Visited this location while visiting a company in Elkhart. When we drove walked in I was a little hesitant but once we sat down and really looked around I began to really like it. I ordered the Special Of The Day which was Sesame Chicken Stir-Fry which was amazing! I hope they end up putting it on the menu because it was really good. The service was really good as well. The server was very attentive with us and always made sure we had everything we needed.
