I have been a patient of Dr. Nguyen for more than 6 years. I was shocked to see the terrible reviews of her on Unilocal and feel compelled to set the record straight. I moved to this area from out of state. I had a suspicious-looking mole, so I looked online for a dermatologist. Each one I called had at least a 3-mo. wait for an appointment, despite my telling the staff I had a concerning mole. I learned that most dermatologists cater their practices to cosmetic treatments, which aren’t covered by insurance so patients pay out-of-pocket. Their priority is making money. Dr. Nguyen was the only one willing to see me quickly. In late 2011, Dr. Nguyen removed a tiny cyst from my groin. The pathology report came back with a finding that the cells were breast cancer – for which I was first treated in 2003. You can imagine my shock! I have been in treatment since for a recurrence of breast cancer. I feel that Dr. Nguyen may have saved my life. To me, this is more important than complaints about her accent or wait time. I would question if reviewers showed unconscious bias toward Dr. Nguyen. Having served in the Peace Corps and traveling in Southeast and central Asia, I am attuned to cultural differences. Different doesn’t mean bizarre or not worthy of respect for her as a physician. She has always spent time with me and been responsive, taking my call from NM this summer and sending a prescription for an issue while I was on vacation. Her staff has always been friendly and helpful to me. If you’re looking for a dermatologist without an accent, with a fancy waiting room and guaranteed no wait time, she’s not your doctor. If you want one who is thorough, takes your entire health picture into account and is an excellent diagnostician, I recommend Dr. Nguyen.

Went to Dr. Nguyen for full body check and asked her how she could tell something looks suspicious. She replied that they«Talk to her.» Got a biopsy of a spot to find it was nothing. Thank goodness, but what language was it speaking? She did not offer any advice as what to look for. After having melanoma removed previously by another doctor, I am concerned of it popping up again somewhere else. No bedside manor … doesn’t care.

I waited over one hour then walked out. Staff was not friendly nor cared about informing me of how long the wait would be.

What a bizarre behavior shown by someone who does not deserve the respect due to a «doctor». I arrived early for my appointment with her, and was told to wait. I had to wait for one hour, and finally got called into an exam room, but she left me there again for 10 minutes. How long does she wait for her scheduled patient before marking the patient as ‘no show’ if the patient doesn’t show up? My guess would be 10 minutes. By stark comparison, I had to wait for an hour and 10 minutes before I even got to talk to her. So, to show my justifiable displeasure at the excessive wait time and her oblivious attitude toward my displeasure, I asked her politely if she could compensate for my hour lost to meaninglessly waiting by giving a discount. Had she apologized and explained that although a discount is not possible, she would do better to make the wait time shorter from now on and make my wait worthwhile, she probably could have kept my respect for her who has the designation of an MD. Instead, she burst out in anger, pointing fingers at me, insulting me, and publicly humiliating me with a loud condemnation saying«all my patients have to wait an hour before they can see me!» Then, she added, «if you do not like me, go see another doctor.» If it wasn’t for that stupid hour long wait and my acute facial acne that needed attention, I would have kicked the door open and run out of the office after giving her the finger. She clearly abused her position of dominance as a healthcare provider to blame and threaten a vulnerable patient who needs her service. This is an absolutely unprofessional, demeaning, derogatory, condescending, childish, hostile, racist, haughty, self-righteous, ridiculous, and bizarre behavior that is deserving not a whit of respect that might be attached to the title«MD». Avoid at all cost, you could probably find someone who understands the concept of taking and keeping appointments.
