Reny’s is a snapshot of Maine in one store. On one hand you have high end polarfleece, Columbia and Woolrich clothing and on the other hand you have salvage store items and seconds from various factories plus an assortment of clothing for the outdoor work. You can get your shitkickers and carharts here plus pick up a variety of dollar store made in china garbage. They also have a nice selection of good shoes, at high prices. Prices are high on the high end goods, Woolrich and Columbia goods are at MSRP, but the deals can be found if you look on the salvage and seconds racks. but you’ve got to look. I find that the men’s clothing has better deals than the women’s, par usual. The camping goods are decent for going to «camp» but not the greatest for people looking for ultralight gear. It’s a mish mash of stuff it a deplorably dilapidated and messy store. It lack organization and general cleanliness. I used the bathroom here and yikes. I did manage to walk away for a nice 100% cotton v-neck sweater for the fall. Like I said, you’ve got to look for the deals. But also put up with the aggravation.

The outside of this Renys was getting a facelift this month. Someone recommended my going there for Maine type items. When you walk in, there are several shelves devoted to items for the Maine visitor. One third of the store is clothing while the remainder is housewares, grocery, luggage, linens, etc. It’s a busy place filled with locals and non-locals. Considering the size of the store there are many selections, some reasonable, some not so much. There aren’t many retail choices in Ellsworth so be prepared to be flexible.

Decent selection of clothing if you dress like me. Carhartts & Dickies. They have bargain clothing on numerous racks, most of which I have never heard the names of. They have a fair selection of boots and shoes, but you won’t find a bargain on those IMO. On two occasions, I have been there prior to someone shoplifting. Maybe this is why the employees are constantly chicken-hawking customers. If you were ever in an elevator with one other person and they dropped a sulfer fart, that’s how apparent it is that they are following you around. I’ve been here several times and have only left twice with something. The store is kind of clustered and dirty. I tried on a pair of jeans and the changing room was nasty. Walls were dirty & floor was dirty and riddled with dust bunnies & I didn’t dare sit on the chair. The only reason I would go back again is to people watch. Wow, are there some interesting looking folks who shop there. *Cringe*

There are always good bargains to be had at Reny’s. They have an extensive selection of Columbia, Woolrich and Carhatt clothing as well as clothing from Eddie Bauer, J Jill, and other brand names. You can find just about anything you need here for your home, be it curtains, pots and pans, dishes, small kitchen appliances, tools, décor, you get the idea. They have a large food selection as well. Some items are brand names and good quality, some are of dubious quality. Know what you are buying. On a recent visit I bought four Eddie Bauer shirts for my husband, a Columbia hat for myself, two bags of Bob’s Red Mill granola and a pound of coffee for $ 45.63. If you are a bargain shopper, it’s worth a stop.

Whatever you need, they have it at Reny’s. High-end polarfleece? Check. Some long skewers for making s’mores? Check. Shot glasses with colorful phrases and board games you had as a child? Check and check. This is my go-to place for everything when I’m in the area. I come in here to stock up on all the random things I need in my city life but don’t want to pay a million dollars for — from workout tops to postcards to travel salt and pepper shakers, they have it all, and for a decent price. The clothing section here is a major attraction — they have all sorts of name brands that you would pay and arm and a leg for somewhere else. The displays are a little abrupt, but that just means you feel like even more of a rockstar when you pull something out of the pile and realize how awesome it would look on you. Win!
