Awesome spot, the food is always consistent. The arroz con calamares and the oxtail stew are my favs. Highly recommended for those with palate fatigue and want to try how home cooked Chinese food is within the Latin countries.

I Love this place!!! I have been coming here since I was a toddler. This place is not visited for the atmosphere but the food. The Asian staff speak Spanish and welcome you with Cuban bread and margarine. Yum. Love there fruit shakes, but you can find Latin sodas, beers, and other regular beverages. My Dad always loved their expresso with a side of Flan. Yum. My favorite go to dishes have always been their Camarones Enchilados(shrimp with onions and peppers in a mild spicy sauce). I also love their Lengua(cow tongue in a Delicious tomato based sauce). There Special Fried Rice is delicious and they might have the best Arroz Moro(but it is only available on the weekends,). Their fried wontons are so good and their sweet plantain is something my Aunt has traveled, from out of state, for. So sweet and tender. The Chinese soups are so comforting and good. The only Chinese restaurant where I don’t need to add duck or soy sauce. Their food definitely has flavor. I still to this day go to Mi Estrella and I recommend anyone to go. Just thinking their makes me want to drive over there.

I have been coming here for over ten years. The food is always delicious, and large portions. The staff is super friendly. Although it’s not a fancy restaurant, I would pick it over most 5 star restaurants.

Came here on a saturday night around 10pm, and they close at 11. As soon as we came in they were rushing us to order. They did not even give us a minute to look at the menu. When I asked their opinion on an appetizer the waitress said she didn’t recommend it because it would take too long to make, and suggested we try something else. After ordering, the waitress brings out one dish out instead of bringing them at the same time and tells us they close at 10:40, when online it says they close at 11. We did not feel comfortable eating here at all. The food was average, I have had way better before. I would tell everybody to steer clear of this place, there are plenty of places to eat in this area.

We are STARVING and have been waiting for a chicken with broccoli and steak for over an hour. At the 45 minute mark they called to inform me they don’t have a juice. Just called to ask about my food order that has been placed over an hour ago and the man on the phone replies that the delivery man is «only human». Clearly I am aware this isn’t the delivery mans fault. It’s MANAGEMENT and whoever is expediting the foods fault. Stop being so cheap and hire another delivery guy. This will avoid accumulating all orders to leave out at once thus making the food cold. On a positive note, the food was good and came in large portions.

I’ve been wanting to try this place out for a while and finally had the opportunity to go the other night. Starving and craving Chinese/Spanish food, my husband and I came in to dine here. We were seated promptly as there were only 2 other customers in the restaurant. My husband was craving breaded chicken and I ordered the chicharrones de pollo(fried chicken bits) with side of beef fried rice and plantains. First off the portions for the price are unbeatable! Huge portions of food. But the quality? Horrible!!! My husbands chicken was tough and tasted weird. My chicken felt like it was dipped and bathed in alcohol and then just greased up in oil. Super greasy and disgusting. The beef fried rice was ok, but very greasy as well. We ended up spending about $ 20 something dollars and not eating the food. I was so disappointed, because the place had decent reviews. I can’t imagine ever coming here again, because the food quality was just not good.

This not your typical fusion spot that you will find. The place has a dated appearance, located right under the 7 train on Roosevelt Ave in corona. When you receive your menu, on the front you have normal Chinese dishes that you would find in your local Chinese take out spot and in the back you find Spanish selection. Each is done equally well and tastes great. They let you pick from either menu and mix how ever you would like. I always get the house special fried rice with ropa vieja. They are open late and prices are good with good portion size.

One of the last remaining Cuban-Chinese joints in NY/NJ, and the best I’ve tried. Many people don’t know this, but Cuba is/was home to thousands of Chinese nationals fleeing Mao, and it is in Cuba where this kind of cuisine was perfected. This is not one of these modern«fusion» places. These guys have been in business since before that stuff was even invented. And to my knowledge, there are few cuisines in the world that compare to the utter DELICIOUSNESS of the miracle that is the marriage of Cuban and Chinese cuisines. The PALOMILLA steak at this spot in particular is off the charts.

This place is awesome. I agree with others this is not a «Fusion Place«. It is an institution in the neighborhood. The Beef Stew, the grilled pork chops, the hot and sour soup. It’s all good.

This place has been open forever. It’s a Chino-Latino place where half the menu is Chinese and the other half is Spanish. I remember coming here years ago and really enjoying the food, on the my last visit I wasn’t so blown away. I got the stuff I normally get but it was just lacking. The food: Caldo Gallego– It’s a white bean soup with collard greens, chorizo, pigs feet and chunks of meat. I remember really loving this soup but it was just OK my last visit. It was the same soup I always get but it felt like it was missing something. And the pigs feet had this weird pigs feet taste to it. It was cooked but it had an odd taste and the foot itself just tasted boiled without seasoning.
Chicharrones de pollo sin hueso– with house special fried rice and maduros. It’s boneless fried chicken chunks, the chicken had good flavor and a nice crunch but the chicken was greasy. The fried rice was nothing special, but the maduros were nice. Bistec de Palomilla– It’s a tenderloin steak that is pounded out and is cooked all the way. The beef has nice flavor but is chewy and overcooked, there are a ton of onions that come with the dish but the dish itself is greasy.

Don’t be fooled by the look of the place. This restaurant is beyond great. The food is so good, I almost ordered seconds. The customer service is great, very friendly and polite. Definitely coming back soon

I’m a start off with there wasn’t no soy sauce at our table and I gave it from another table they notice and placed soy sauces on every table. Bread was a little hard. Our bill took 8 mins to get. I’m definitely coming back for these are only small little mistakes. I love the general tso chicken broccoli was a little cold. LOVEIT!!!

Been coming here for over 40 years. Now owned by the sons of the previous owners. Best fried wontons I’ve ever had. The house special fried rice use to be better but still very good. Can’t go wrong with a bistec palomilla that comes with house special fried rice and a salad

This place has changed a lot. I remember coming here when I was younger with my parents the uniforms of all waiters was the same. This place was strictly cash now u see the accept CC. The special plate that all of us used to order was«Bistec de palomilla» mariposas fritas and maduros fritos that was the best meal that kids at the time but now adults would enjoy so much. I recommend this place as you can see I still go there in my adult years.

Been enjoying the food here while visiting NYC. I like their lobster special $ 14.95 or 2 for $ 25.95, shrimp lo mein, house special lo mein, hot & sour soup, lengua(beef tongue). Staff was very helpful with customizing the lobster(lobster Cantonese with black bean sauce). Lobster Diablo could have been spicier. Low prices and good food.

Went with the wife. The place is an ordinary Chinese food place but once you taste the food you can see they care about the taste. Their shrimp in sauce is great and so is their palomilla steak!

Sometimes it’s not all about the $$$ for great food. You just got to know where to find them! I absolutely enjoyed myself at this restaurant. I had no expectations, but to find that for the prices here and the portions. Couldn’t be beat! Where else can you find a place that serves you porkchops, steak, chicken, with 2 fried eggs over fried rice for little to no money at all !? no where! I recommend the crackling chicken, the Oxtail, and of course the super combo if your feening for some meat ! As of course parking is always apart of my reviews. It’s hard to park hence the 1 star down!

I’ve been coming here for about 30 years. The best Chinese Spanish food around. The prices are low and the food is great. I love the Bistec(steak) de Palomilla and Beef Fried Rice with a side order of Avocado. My wife also had the lo-mein and loved it,(she usually doesn’t like anything…) and I had to fight her off of my beef fried rice! The Staff is great, ask for Bing when you get in. he is the last of the old school waiters that are left. I can’t believe he still works there after all these years. My Favorite: Try the Bistec de Palomilla and Beef Fried Rice with a side order of Avocado I usually sprinkle some lemon or lime on the steak, it just tastes so good for some reason. Pour some soy sauce on that rice! I found a menu at this site:

This place was recommended by a trusted food fanatic, so my dragonboat team and I stopped by on sunday afternoon. After a long day of paddling, we were all tired and hungry. There, we were greeted by Johnny, a very friendly and attentive waiter. He quickly brought us all cold water and the drinks we ordered. The restaurant is big and can accommodate large parties. We ordered soup, fried chicken, fried wonton, plantain appetizers and the table went silent. we were so pleased with the appetizers we almost forgot to breathe. I ordered the ropa vieja for my main and it was amazing. the meat is tender and juicy. The portions are huge. for 7 dollars, I had 2 huge bowls of rice and beans and a large plate of beef. This meal filled me up for lunch and dinner. I cant wait till next weekend when I can come back after practice… only downside is the 16 mile run and 1 hr of paddling might not be enough to burn off the delicious food.

reviewers reviewers, you guys don’t understand this place! Mi Estrella is a Jackson Heights legend. Seriously, my parents have been going there since the 70’s, brought us there countless times, and now I go there and have introduced many people to this place. The thing is, you need to know what to order. First off, in all my years going we have had any chinese food. It’s a cuban chinese joint and so we go for those plates. **this place outdoes La Caridad on the upper west side, hands down. Here is what my family and I get every time we go there. Give it a try and I don’t think you will be disappointed. Choose from: 1) Bistec ala Palomilla with house fried rice and tostones. it is a soft and thin steak but comes in massive portions that two people can eat from it. 2) Asopao de Camarones(a thick shrimp soup) really good 3) a large order of their house fried rice… sprinkle some lemon on it and you are set. 4) Pollo ala Plancha(grilled chicken breast, thin cut) DONOTDEVIATE from those choices… I did once and was sad, now I stick to the usual. enough said… it is delicious!
