Do not order the pepper steak. Meat has no flavor whatsoever. Just pepper on a plate.

Got a groupon, went back a couple times after because the food was so good. We moved into town and wanted to try a new place. Definitely a local place, especially the bar(got a lot of looks from the regulars, but didn’t mind as everyone was friendly after we started socializing, in fact I think it made the place. I think some people might be intimidated by the regulars in the bar, especially a big sports game night, but the staff is very friendly and helps you feel comfortable

OK, I had bought a Groupon for this place and decided to use it on my way home from work and enjoy a nice steak dinner as I had gone without lunch. So I print it up only to discover that it had expired just two days prior. So according to the terms, I can use it for the $ 22 I paid for it, but not for the $ 40 ala Groupon discount. So onward I go, deciding that I’ll ask if they’re willing to honor it at the full amount and figured that if they do, I’ll split the savings with my waitress(assuming her service is decent) and add $ 9 to the tip I’ll give her on the full amount of the tab. I get there a little after 8PM and most of the restaurant is fairly quiet; maybe 5 – 6 tables plus a few people at the bar. The hostess comes to the front and I indicate I’d like a table for myself. As we get to the table, I tell her about my expired Groupon and ask her if they’d be flexible and honor the full amount with me. Now, at some restaurants, hostesses serve as managers, but this was not the case. She heads back toward the kitchen, so I’m thinking that she’s going to get a manager, but all that happened was that the cook came out of the kitchen and recanted a policy that I was already quite familiar with. The hostess folds the Groupon in half and places it face up on my table; nothing else is said nor is any further action taken so at this point, it’s not looking good. So I begin to look at the menu and my waitress steps up, a young enthusiastic woman named Tegan. She asks if I’d like anything to drink, so I order a Bloody Mary and off she goes to the bar. She brings it back — it’s served in a large rocks glass — not exactly a «normal» look for a Bloody Mary, but a quick taste tells me it’s pretty good, so no sweat with the lack of usual BM glassware. I order a strip steak medium rare along with a baked potato. The soup or salad question is posed — the soup is spicy tomato — essentially the cocktail I am drinking only hot rather than cold. Sure what the heck — gimme da soup! And another Bloody Mary! A short while later, dinner is served. The one thing that could have been done better was the baked potato. It was kind of small — a large potato with the meal would have made the whole meal appear much more heartier. Also, a slice of butter for the potato is placed in the cup of sour cream at a kind of angle. Kind of an odd presentation, but not really a big deal. The steak is along the order of what one would get at an Outback or LongHorn, but for $ 26.95, that was to be expected. The good thing was that it wasn’t overseasoned like most steaks at those chains are. It was closer to rare than medium rare, but I like it that way anyways, and it’s better to undercook than overcook. As hungry as I was, I finished it in relatively short order. Tegan stops by and asks if she can get me anything else. I ask what kind of dessert they have and she brings a menu. I decide to get the Mud Pie. I also decide to give the Groupon one more shot and ask her if she can ask her manager if they can extend some flexibility on my two day shortfall. She takes the Groupon with no hesitance and comes back within a couple of minutes. «We’ll honor your Groupon for the full amount!» That kind of hospitality and consideration is a big thumbs up to me. Good food nowadays is fairly easy to come by, it’s the service, employee personalities and extra considerations that often sets good places apart from mediocre ones. My tab arrives — $ 10.09; would have been $ 28.09 if they hadn’t given me the extra break. So the tip on the full amount would have been about $ 9, and add the split, about $ 9. I left her $ 28 to cover everything($ 17.91 gratuity). So if you happen to go to Silverado, be sure to ask for Tegan — she’s a good egg!

I love Silverado! The food is consistently good, the owner is super nice and does a lot for the community, and the wait staff is always friendly. A little updating has been done on the inside recently as well, which is a plus!

I’ve just moved to Elmhurst and live nearby the Silverado Grill. While convenience is a factor, their food could definitely be better and I doubt I’ll go often. [As a side note, allow me to mention that during the week they close at 10PM. One night this past week I dropped in at 8:50PM hoping to grab a late dinner. I stood in the little reception area for a good 10 minutes before deciding to leave and go elsewhere. Nobody greeted me. Nobody at all. The people in the bar who did see me standing there ignored me. So… yeah.] Last night, after working in my new place all day I went at about 8PM and was greeted after only 5 minutes of standing around. By the time I got my table, however, the waitress was quick to get me a drink(that she refilled continuously to my satisfaction) and discussed with me the menu after I explained I was new and inquired about a few items. I got the broccoli cheese bites which were tasty. But we all know anything breaded and deep fried will be good and I enjoyed them. I ordered the New York strip streak. It came with a cup of soup or side salad. I opted for the soup which was corn chowder and had a surprising bite to it from the hunks of spicy Andouille sausage. It also came with a dinner roll. Like school lunch cafeteria dinner roll. Maybe the Silverado Grill should take a page out of Outback’s handbook and offer warm bread(no need for homemade) and butter instead of a single dinner roll and foil wrapped frozen solid butter pats. Now to the steak… fatty and overcooked. I asked for medium well and got well and had to spend considerable time removing the chewy fat. The steak was tough. After dousing it in A1 steak sauce it wasn’t much better. [Note to the cook: You can’t hide the fact you overcooked the steak by ladling au jus over the top.] The garlic mashed potatoes were good even if they had major lumps which I assume was purposeful to provide a rustic nature. The steak was about $ 27. Seems a lot for a piece of overcooked and fatty The polite and kind waitress sold me on the Apple Round-up and then told me she was going to go microwave it. Don’t tell a customer you are going to microwave anything! In any case, microwaving the Apple Round-up(a cross between a crumb-cake and pie) filled the dish with liquid which they don’t drain off. Instead they just slop a big scoop of warehouse bargain outlet vanilla ice cream on top and call it a day. There was one positive… the wifi worked! In all seriousness the place seems to have a loyal following. Maybe next time I’ll just get a burger and fries and see how that goes.

Wanted to love this place … Tried it way too many times and maybe once it wasn’t a complete disaster. I kept ordering Jacks Kabobs. EVERYTIME, they came back rare… so I asked the server to please ask them to make sure they aren’t raw. She then explained that they cook«Texas style» … to quote her, «it’s complicated and I don’t completely understand it and so I can’t explain it to you fully, but Texas style cooking basically means that you have to order it a few temperatures up… so if you want medium rare you order medium or well done …» so for a week I’m looking up Texas style cooking… finding nothing… so the next time I went in there I asked the seasoned waitress about this Texas style cooking and she said she’s never ever heard of this and that if it were true she’d know about it. That visit my boyfriends burger smelled so ROTTEN and he pushed it to the side and didn’t want anything. It ruined my appetite as well the smell was horrible. Then the most previous and LAST visit there, it was a complete disaster. We sit in this rickety booth and this discombobulated waiter comes passed us bringing 2 bowls of apple sauce to the table and spills it all over my pants and shoes. When he came to wait on us, we asked him how the pulled pork is and he said, oH its great. We explained how the burger was so bad and seemed microwaved and rotten the previous visit and he started up with the b essing us how they got a shipment of aged beef and other people also complained about it not appreciating the taste and smell of «aged beef» so they sent the meat back. Then comes the food. Ugh I don’t even wanna think about it. My BF told me to taste the pork. It had the same old, microwaved smell to it as the burger. It was awful and it was even a scary color. My Kabobs ordered medium came so disgusting. The meat was rare and cold, the outer layer was a little grayish. As I cut into the meat, blood ran out all over the rice and veggies. We flagged the waiter over and he sent his manager. My BF said he didn’t want anything else and I had them remake my Kabobs … they wanted to cook the meat only and I asked her to remake all of it since it’s all covered in blood. I also asked her about this TEXASSTYLE cooking, again, and she told me she’s never ever heard of it either. At this point, she never came back… and we were the ONLY table in the place. Waiting, waiting, waiting …20 mins, 30 mins 40 minutes for new kabobs. Then my BF had to drive his son home and he told the waiter to bring the bill. Random food on the bill had to be removed. Then he comes up with a credit card advising us he didn’t run our card yet. We’re like, really? We didn’t give you any credit cards, mind you were the ONLY table in the restaurant. So then we called the owner Jack to discuss this and he advises us we «stiffed» his waiter out of a tip. Even tho we tipped him 10 bucks which he didn’t even deserve. Can you believe he was mostly worried about the tip $? This waiter was so out of it it was not even funny. he seemed like he was on some hard drugs or going thru some sort of comedown or drug withdrawl. This place is basically a run down, digusting, dirty place stuck in a previous timezone with wobbly tables and paint stirring sticks holding the tables in place … I looked under the table and there was a giant looking beetle or some cockroach looking thing dead laying on its back. The tables have years of gum underneath them… they have TVs from the early 80s… big tube things next to old looking deer heads … it was scary from day one but we gave it a chance trying to like the place … it is a complete disaster. They have awesome freezer burned mud pie for desert if that’s your cup of tea. Either the food is freezer burned or it is microwaved… bottom line the fries are the only thing I can honestly recommend … Jack, maybe you should drug test your employees but it seems like you don’t care after our conversations …(my boyfriend called and Jack the owner didn’t care so I called and he was more worried about the tip and was very defensive about his employee getting stiffed .he counted it… he counted it… but since jack wasn’t there… he’s STILL believing this idiot.) Maybe restaurant steak out or restaurant nightmare show should go save this place but it seems like Jack is happy with the neighborhood dove bar section with elder people getting obviously over served, screaming and acting all sloppy and drunk.

it pains me to have to write this review, as Silverado has always been a local haunt, and in previous years, the food was really good, however in recent years, this restraunt has been on a steady decline. Tonight I had one of my worst experiences at any restaurant. I ordered a New York Strip, medium, after a long week, I thought it would be exactly the thing to cheer me up, The steak came out, and it looked delicious, and thats where the horror story begins, I cut into the steak, and the meat was so pink, that I swear I heard it moo, I mean nothing on the inside of this steak was cooked, there wasn’t even the typical ring of dead meat. I thought to my self the Cook made an error, I didnt eat any of it, no harm no foul, I sent it back to the kitchen, The kitchen then took the same Steak, and threw it back on the grill, and brought it out to me, this was extremly offensive to me, as once food leaves the kitchen, it is never supposed to go back through a prep area. I mentioned this to my server After 10 – 15 minutes of waiting, I got the second steak, everything looked fine, until I took a bite out of it, and there was none of that beefy flavor, or that soft texture you should have when you are paying 26 dollars for a steak, not wanting to wait any longer, I sucked it up, and ate the steak, I then moved to my Baked potato, and this potato was so raw, I actually bent my fork trying to smash into it. Thats right, the Potato was now under cooked to all hell. I finally paid my tab(which after all of this I was paid full price for, which is their right, but I want to comment that there was 0 service recovery done, other then half the staff asking me if my steak was ok the second time around) I calmly paid my check, and left, and will never return to a restaurant that once served amazing food, but in recent years has been on a very bad downward spiral.

I came here because me and a friend were looking for a new food place and I went looking around a Groupon. The waitress was nice, which is why I’m giving it two stars, but the food was not good. I ordered ribs which were dry and lacked any sort of flavor. I couldn’t even finish them. My friend ordered a burger. She was trying to be nice, but her face told me she was never coming back here again. Definitely not a place for a younger crowd. Everyone in there was over the age of 40. We felt very out of place! Reminds you of a place your very old grandmother would bring you.

Came here last night. My fiancé and I had a Groupon and it was great to try new places. We had the fried pickles and a chicken quesadilla to start the pickles were awesome! I also had the ribs and my fiancé had the bison burger! Everything was good just my fiancé said the burger party was to small and there fries are not the greatest. That’s pretty much it we also got a desert and we devoured it! We will be back :)

One of our favorite local grills. Jack and staff are great, the food ain’t bad too. LOL no, really, the food is great! Cheryl’s favorite is the blackened tilapia, my favorites, the blackened whitefish, or the double roundup, which is the highest quality beef, absolutely delicious. We always say we’re going to try the Italian place down the street, but always end up at Silverado, for the sure thing. By the way, the whitefish is so good, I’ll usually order a double order. TV’s in the bar area

I’ve been going to Silverado for the last twenty years. In that time I don’t believe they’ve ever remodeled. There’s something comforting about that. In business we call that a paradigm. It’s good and bad. I’m not suggesting they shift the paradigm because, like I said, I’ve been going there for twenty years. That means they’re doing something right and any big change may result in tragedy. Seriously we’ve seen restaurants come and go, longevity is rare. The last couple of times I’ve been there I’ve ordered the pork chops. They’re seriously good and pretty reasonable. That would be my recommendation. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Unilocal

UPDATE. I went back sooner than I thought. Keep in mind folks you’re only allowed to purchase one Groupon for yourself, so going back I had my mom purchase it this time. Tonight I ordered the Garlic Steak. Incredible portion, about as big of a cut as the Teriyaki Sirloin. I don’t, however, think I’ll be getting the garlic steak again. It was a nice juicy cut of steak, with minced garlic on top. Other than that, it seemed to have been seasoned with just a pinch of salt. I don’t normally like putting steak sauce on my steak, but I really had to dip my cuts into some to enjoy it properly. The garlic taste was missing for me, but it might just have been lost in the drippy, bloody steak that I ordered medium rare. I don’t regret ordering it, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It needs more taste, more salt perhaps. The soup of the day was Louisiana Style Clam Chowder. A cup of seemingly normal clam chowder, but with a dash or two of cajun spice that gave this chowder a kick. Very delicious. — — — — — — — — — — — – Also, I would recommend going to this place on weekdays. My previous review I mentioned how the space felt like it was a fire hazard. Well, that was on a Saturday night. Go on a Tuesday or Wednesday where it doesn’t seem to be busy, yet still pushing out orders.

Having passed this place numerous times, it was decided that we finally stop in. I snatched up a groupon that was $ 22 for $ 40 worth of food. Stopped in on a Tuesday evening and were seated right away. Looked around and we were by far the youngest patrons(not an issue but seems that this place draws an older crowd). My husband and I ordered the broccoli bites, 2 side salads and steak sandwiches(side of mushrooms for me) and the total before groupon came out to around $ 60 which seems a bit steep given the quality of food. Broccoli bites were pretty good. Fried broccoli with cheese and bacon with ranch to dip. As another reviewer said, their salad dressing is watered down. Wish I didn’t read that before dining here because it was all I could think about. Both the ranch dipping and the dressing for our salads was super runny and not very flavorful. Didn’t care for my steak sandwich. When it was placed in front of me it was glistening with a nice layer of grease. It pretty much tasted like a greasy sandwich. My husband seemed to enjoy his but commented that the entire meal wasn’t worth the ‘before groupon cost’. Glad we gave this place a try as I always wondered what the food was like but now that we’ve dined here, there really isn’t a reason to go back.

Really… who’s giving this dump FIVESTARS? It’s dirty, tiny and outdated. Their menu has nothing exciting or enticing to offer and I wonder how the place has stayed in business for this long. Had the burger with chili, mushrooms and onions and really wasn’t super impressed. The onion rings were forgettable as well. Wait staff not the most attentive and who is the SUPER skinny older man walking around in baggy gym shorts? A tad eery. My take is that the star rating is based upon emotional and nostalgic value, not food and ambiance. Me, I’ll take a pass next time.
