For the price you pay, you really can’t complain. Their portions are really big and the food is not bad, but it’s definitely not top notch. But again, it’s very inexpensive and the service is ok too. I tried this restaurant for the first time and came back again two days later. The first time, I went for breakfast and I got the steak with rice & beans. The steak was really juicy and flavorful and the rice and beans were pretty good too. I came with two other people and one of them ordered an omelette that came with toast, the other ordered sausage with rice & beans. We all tried each other’s dish and we liked everything! The entire bill came out to be $ 25 for three dishes which is probably the price you’d pay for ONE dish at other restaurants or diners. The second time I went, I ordered takeout. I ordered the arroz con pollo for myself. It was basically just ripped pieces of chicken in yellow rice with diced up vegetables. It came with plantains and salad. I’m not a fan of plantains so I asked if I can switch them out for something else but the lady said no, she can only give me some extra salad(which I don’t think she did, but it’s fine because I didn’t end up eating any of the salad anyway). I didn’t really like the chicken cause it was really dry and there wasn’t much flavor but I did enjoy the rice. For my boyfriend, I ordered him Pechuga de Pollo a la Francesca, which was chicken cutlet with a lemony garlic sauce. It came with white rice, fries and salad as well. I liked his food better than mine. The sauce for the chicken was really good and the chicken was definitely not dry like mine. But then again, it was drenched in sauce so. I would give it 3.5 stars but I had to round up. I really enjoyed the breakfast and the Pechuga de Pollo a la Francesca but the arroz con pollo was a disappointment. Also, as I said, the food isn’t spectacular but I’d still come back, especially for the breakfast!

First time coming here since my Husband and I were in the area and was actually pretty impressed. The waitress was very accommodating, spoke English, and made sure we were well taken care of even though she was the only one working the floor(granted that it wasn’t a packed place — but still at least 5 tables to work on). I’m a stickler when it comes to service so the fact that she was great is a plus for me. The food — well, I posted the photos so feast your eyes. As you can tell, the portions are huge and am happy to report that they also taste good. – Grilled Steak Combo: Granted it’s not Capitale Grill steak type, but it’s actually pretty good steak. It comes with cole slaw(which they served as salad prior to the entrée), rice and beans, and maduros. This is so good and all for $ 11.95. I say it’s a great deal — even when compared to other pollos ala brasa restaurant in Roosevelt Ave. – Chicken Combo: for $ 8.95, this is a great steal and I may have found a new go-to when I have a hankering for some chicken combo. — ¼ Rotisserie Chicken: This is a little bit of a let down since I thought it could have been more flavorful so thankfully I was offered the salsa verde by the waitress to spice the chicken up. But no big deal since it’s juicy and I would have smothered the chicken in salsa verde anyway, but I do love a well seasoned chicken skin…(hence ½ star off) — Fries: Nothing worth to mention, they are store bought crinkled fries — which is no big deal — but there’s not much flavor on it either…(½ star off) — Chicken Soup: This was surprisingly good– piping hot soup comprised with chunks of white meat and potatoes and some veggies in a hot oily broth(as it should be!) well suited for a cold night. This is also a big portion since it’s part of the Chicken Combo. Overall, this is a great place and I would definitely be passing by for some great and affordable food, especially when I am starving. Give it a try and you’ll end up loving it even than the other Ala Brasa restaurants.

I found the food here to be dismal. I have only ordered from this place twice – the first time I got the typical rice and beans and chicken dish, and the second time I went for arroz con pollo. Both of the times that I ordered from this place the chicken was dry and unremarkable. The arroz con pollo was horrific. I still feel nauseous when I think about it. They basically just threw old dry chicken in with some yellow rice and tossed it around with diced veggies. It tasted like eating raw veggies in a sea of dry rice and chicken. Arroz con Pollo is supposed to be creamy, the chicken is meant to me stewed and moist and flavorful and the veggies aren’t meant to be raw. I can’t even finish writing this I’m so nauseous now. This place definitely ruined me for arroz con pollo.

This place is a great and cozy spot to have filling food that is cheap and cheerful. I ordered a mixed meat dish for about $ 11 and it was enough tonsplit between two people(mind you I was hungry that day too). The service is really nice and friendly, and there are plently of dish options — especially for meatlovers.

Good local spot, that’s near by. Similar to all other Spanish spots such as pollo la brasa. Decent pricing, good sit in cozy spot. It’s on a busy corner and not too much parking available.

Massive servings. That’s my #1 impression from this place. Second? Tasty food, which is way more important, haha. I’m no expert on this type of food, but I know what is tasty going in to my mouth. The arroz con pollo and maduros are yummy. The spicy green sauce is on point. I’m not sure how they manage to find chickens large enough to end up with breaded cutlets so large and tasty!

This place gained massive points with me when I ordered delivery when I was sick. There soup is amazing. I now order solely from them whenever I feel the urge for my Latino food, but don’t feel like cooking. Great place!!!

Have been eyeballing this place for a few months now and finally got a taste of what will probably be my ‘go to’ Colombian dinner. Ordered the mini bandeja tipica(rice, beans, chicharron, aprea con queso, and steak) for dirt cheap. the price does not reflect the taste. I scarfed my meal and still had left overs. the only thing that could be improved are the desserts-Rice pudding and tres leches were not as yummy as the meal. Aside from that, the service was friendly and the delivery-speedy. Cozy size and simple clean interior.

The food is pretty good and the price is reasonable but the service SUCKS! You can find much better food and service if you go somewhere on Roosevelt, sometimes when you go they might be empty but the waiters look at you like your lost

love this neighborhood got lots of ethnic flavors. tropic is a decent place. good chicken. good fish. fun place. nice crew. the best thing is this big tv that keeps repeat the same latino music video for about 30 minutes before moving onto the next on the playlist.

I live near the intersection of Junction Boulevard and Corona Avenue. No matter which direction I walk in, I can easily find roasted chicken with rice and beans. Seriously, that stuff is everywhere. But Tropic Pollo is officially my #1 choice in the neighborhood. The service is quick, and always comes with a smile. The prices are cheap. My Mom got the mini bandeja tipica for under $ 7, and it was enough to feed a small army. I ordered one of their specials, consisting of ¼ chicken, ¼ steak, 5 fried shrimps, rice and french fries for about $ 10. Not bad, huh? Since my initial visit, I’ve returned a few times for their chicken and rice specials. I haven’t tried their skirt steak, which I’ve heard is very good. But, for the most part, I’d have to say that their roasted chicken in the star of the show. This isn’t fancy, gourmet cuisine. It’s stick to your ribs, hearty food that hits the spot without putting a dent in your wallet. Andddd they play salsa music while you enjoy your meal!

Most of the time we travel at great lenghts all over New York City, Brooklyn and the Bronx to try different cuisines… every Saturday for our Mother/daughter dates, we tend to ignore the gems in our own neighborhood.(Queens).only because we feel we can always drop by anytime… in cases of emergency like when some subway catastrople arises… or when snowstorm strikes… we retreat to our own neighborhood. This was what happened today. The weatherman predicted snow late in the night .and as always. they were wrong… Snow came in early… we had to change our plans… .didn’t want to commute… take the subway or the bus… restaurants are all over Elmhurst .and there are quite a few that we have not tried yet… like the one in the corner of Corona and Hampton… Columbian Cuisine called Tropic Pollo… Surprised to know they have a full menu… Desayuno, Almuerzo Y Cena… always thought all they serve was Rotisserie chicken with fries… because that is what we see everyday through the glass panels when we pass by… Anyway I had their special.“Small” Bandeja Tipica, Rice, Beans, Pork Rind, Fried Egg, Steak and Ripe Plaintain… for $ 6.95.well it came on a «Large» platter. can’t hardly finish half of it… Camille had Bandeja Tropic Pollo, Rice, Shrimps, Steak Chicken with fries.$ 13.95.this was a «Large» platter. it was just too much. we had to take it home to go. The wait staff and the owners were surprisingly very pleasant… coming to our table make sure everything was okay… oh and the bathroomis very neat and clean… . We live in a predominanly mix neigborhood .so we have different cuisines… Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Mexican, Columbian, Dominican, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Indian & Malaysian restaurants … Aren’t we lucky… we have all these goodies around us… and we are not counting the food carts that surrounds the area… They are all GOOD!!! ANDAUTHENTIC!!! yummy… . . ou
