Bad service… Especially the owner!!! They wanna charge you for stuff you are not aware of until your at the cashier!

Great sandwiches, always crave this place when I want a fresh sandwich. The hard part is choosing from their selection.

Best sandwiches I ever had! The Italian with everything is by far the best Italian sub I have ever tried, and also very affordable!

We would go here all the time, the bread is really good but the meat is just ok. I went here again today, but I guess the last time we went in the transaction hadn’t gone through for some reason, and so they brought that up. I had no problem paying for it of course, but they were really rude about it, like we were trying to pull a fast one. Why would I go back if that was the case? For these reasons we won’t be going back anymore.

I was craving subs and I decided to just go wherever was closest. Thankfully this was it. Staff was super friendly, plenty of seating available if you decide to dine in, everything was fresh and delicious! I got a 9″ BLT on wheat and it was way too much food for me to eat in one sitting! Definitely a new favorite sub shop.

I somewhat consider myself to be a sandwich connoisseur. I love Subman. Owned by a very nice man. The ingredients are fresh, and you can pretty much get any deli style sub you want. Way better than subway! I love sprouts and pretty much load it up every time. And they have deli pickles which is a deal breaker for me. Must visit if you are in the area looking for a great sandwhich.

Subman feels like an ‘old-school’ sub sandwich shop: its not a chain franchise. I go there because the owner is there. I find this type of place has the best food at the best prices. When you go, you have to try his wife’s home-made«Cosmic» sauce: a combo of sweet & spicy that’s guaranteed to make you smile.

This is where I land when I’m hungry and not in the mood for a greasy meal. Their sandwiches are a nice value. Where else can you get a LARGE sub with lots of produce, turkey and cheese made to order for about $ 8. The ingredients are fresh and nicely priced. However the turkey is like the typical ‘cold cut’ style of chopped and pressed meat typically served at the jersey and chain-style delis. Not necessarily a bad thing when you want a big meal and not have to give up your week’s lunch budget. The French bread is super super soft and makes the Subman one of my favorites.

I’ve been going here over 12 years, its like a party in your mouth and everyone is invited dude seriously. I get a turkey cheese and avo most of the time, 6″ and its less than $ 5. in this day and age that’s rare. The crew working there is super chill and they have my sando memorized… I just walk in, say what up and shoot the sh1t with them while they make my preciousssss. always spot on. Tim the owner, the little asian dude. such a good guy and has been a successful small business owner in encinitas for as long as I can remember. Subman for LIFE bro.

If you want your sandwiches made from owners who stand behind the counter and eat then touch your food after they just touched their own mouth… or made from guys with long hair that isn’t in a hair net or cleanly shaved. THISISYOURSPOT! I didn’t even want to eat here the display and ambience of this place alone gave me the heebee geebeez… It’s smelled musty, like old wet wood, the owner was rude, at least at SUBWAY they greet you when you walk in. It was 12:30pm and there were 2 people eating inside of here… I did my walk threw, looked at the meats that were tightly sealed in saran wrap(like the grocery stores) looked at the veggies, looked just like Subway(delivered from Sysco Foods) THEN I saw the owner eating away in the corner. I watched him as he put his food down to ring up a customer, touch their food and put it in a bag… HEDIDNOTWASHHISHANDS! NASTY! So on that note, I exited the SUBMAN and got in my car to write this =) I would just find the nearest Subway… at least they are a little cleaner, smell fresher and they wear hair nets…

My family has been going here as long as I can remember. The inside of Subman is a little out dated but the food is always fresh. I have been to other places(Board and Brew, Jersey Mikes, Sprouts…) but Subman is my favorite by far. Everyone working here is friendly and the owner is so nice. They offer a student discount so if you’re a student bring your I.D. card! The ingredients are always so fresh and the sandwich is very inexpensive. If you are in the area I strongly suggest Subman!

Best sandwich shop in Encinitas! The owner Tim is very friendly and appreciates his customers. The sandwiches are huge and made with fresh ingredients of which there are many options to choose from. The prices can’t be beat!

From the other reviews, it seems that the sub sandwiches with meat and cheese in them taste amazing. However, I went the vegetarian route(no meat, cheese or mayonnaise). I got a sub sandwich on wheat bread with avocado, lettuce, spinach, sprouts, tomato, deli mustard, salt, pepper, oil and vinegar. I wasn’t blown away by it. I’ve had a much better veggie sandwich from Sprouts. So I’d say, go here if you like meat and cheese. If you’re looking for vegetarian options, go to Sprouts for a veggie sandwich.

I have to say, I’m a little upset with myself for not coming to this place sooner. I’m not a huge sub sandwich shop kind of guy, so whenever one opens up or I pass by a new site, I never mark it down as our next stop to eat at. I think the last sub shop I loved was on the Carlsbad /Oceanside border and closed down over 12 years ago … maybe I’m just holding a grudge. Anyway, I come to this shopping center damn near every day. And with the exception of a new organic protein bowl place that opened in the back(which, I don’t know … m’eh), I’ve eaten at every restaurant in it. So passing by here all the time, I always MEANT to come and have a sandwich, it just took me living in Encinitas about a decade before actually getting around to it. Simply put, it costs the same as Subway(a Subman small sandwich is about the same size as a foot long at Subway), for the same cost, but Subman is WAAAAAAAY better. Put more complex, you walk in and the line directs you to the counter refrigerator. Behind the glass are the fresh and unsliced sides of deli meat, waiting to be cut up and stuffed on the bread of your choice. It’s nice to see that over tubs of precut servings separated by convenient plastic sheets. Bread out of bags is next; not a bad choice, considering the quality and taste of the bread, and then the typical gambit of veggies and condiments you would normally see. And just like the meat before it, any cucumber or pepper you ask for is fresh and cut up before being tossed into the mix. All of it comes together to make a pretty good sandwich. Soft bread, good amount of meat and cheese, solid taste, great food all around. My only qualm would be that it doesn’t aspire to that excellent delicatessen flavor that it really could be with larger variety of dressings and meat /cheese. They had no fresh mozzarella for the Italian Sandwich I had, mortadella, a staple of many a good sandwich in lieu of a substandard bologna was missing, no hard crust baguettes or french rolls, stuff like that. So, while not the best(or aspiring to be the best), Subman still ranks up there as quite delicious and an excellent choice when you have a hankering for a sammich.

Italian on sliced rye with lettuce, tomato, pickle, peppercini, Italian dressing salt and pepper. The ingredient list doesn’t really set them apart, the freshness does. They slice the meat and cheese in front of you and then pile it on fresh bread. the appearance is a bit homey and kinda run down but its very clean and the service is friendly and quick.

Serious review. My favorite sandwich place I Encinitas. I got nearly once a week. It’s not a chain place so it’s great. The people there are great. The meat is great and so is the bread. Never lets me down. I can’t get over the price. Sandwich, chips and soda is always cheaper than a fast food place. And… it’s way better tasting and way better for you. I always get a burst of energy after eating here. Natural ingredients just do better for your body. And the taste is wonderful. Believe me and go check it out. Check with me first though. I don’t want to wait in line behind you. I found it first. Mine, mine, all mine.

Best sandwich shop in the immediate area. Doeasn’t hold a candle to Board and Brew but then again who does? I dig their roast beef and cheddar on sourdough. Very friendly service and it’s usually a short wait. And you can get a free sammich if you are a frequent buyer. Squeal~

I ordered a 12″ Turkey, Provolone, Avocado. The two guys teaming to make the sub were very attentive to the task of making the sandwich. It’s true what other reviewers have said, that the ingredients are all fresh and tasty. You can definitely tell the difference in the quality of meat and cheese versus a chain sub. This was my first but not last time eating a sub from Subman. Not sure why some reviewers complain about simplicity of the dining area. I’d rather have a clean wall to look at while eating, than having a poster of Michelle Obama eating a subway looking at me.

Hands down the best local sub spot! They have a menu with 36 sub creations, but of course you’re able to make your own and any thing you decide to make is bound to be a mouthwatering creation! Everything here is extra fresh and tasty! Subman has big fresh rolls, sliced bread, fresh meat and cheese they slice right Infront of you. And let’s not forget the staff… The owner a super nice man is usually there with a few other guys who are all happy to help and serve all of us subman crazed locals!!! And they have a frequent sub buyers card!

Huge selection of sandwiches, nice employees, decent prices, and good food. Aside from the fact that we went«All Annoying High School Kids in San Diego Are Here» Saturday I really, really liked the place. As for the sandwiches, the bread was nice and chewy without being tough. There were generous portions of meat and toppings. All of the ingredients were fresh and good-looking. My only suggestion for improvement would be the décor. The walls looked like they were painted by an agitated chimpanzee and there were just a few discordant odds and ends on the walls or scattered about. Nothing a solid Monday and Tuesday renovation couldn’t fix but certainly worth fixing at some point in the near future.
