We went for breakfast a few weeks ago and was unimpressed. Saw ad for Friday fish fry and stopped for lunch. We both had the basa fish fry which came with clam chowder, which was only ok, very few clams. The fish was great, 4 pieces and a generous amount of fries and killer homemade cole slaw. The waitress was a hoot, could have walked out of a Laverne and Shirley episode. We’ll be back…

I have been there twice, dinner and breakfast. Both times, very good food and service. For dinner the owner’s son waited on me and was very pleasant and gave great service. The next time the waitress was great. She kept the coffee cup full and serve the food fast. Would go back again. This is a family run business and is a pleasure to try.

Stopped in for breakfast when Food is Love was closed. Bummer! Pancakes were very dry and insanely heavy. First pancakes in my life that I wouldn’t eat. They were flavorless, dense and dry… not a recipe for good food. I’m pretty sure that they use waffle batter for both pancakes and waffles. No bueno. Go elsewhere for sure.

Neat and clean, small, neighborhood restaurant. Owner is present to oversee operations. I’ve only had breakfast at Bay Pointe so can’t comment on other meals. Eggs were prepared as requested and home fries were very good and seemed to be made from fresh potatoes, not a frozen product. The sausage links were moist and tasty. The soft-spoken male waiter was polite and attentive and checked back often with coffee pot in-hand. The atmosphere is generally quiet and diners often exchange pleasantries. All-in-all, a good experience. Edit:(June 2016) I understand that the restaurant is under new ownership

When deciding on where to go for dinner we opted for a fish and Pops thought Bay Pointe Grill would be the best option. We arrived early for dinner and nearly had the place to ourselves.(Note: by «early» I mean old folks early… It wasn’t even 5pm yet!) The restaurant is old school, but apparently in a «new» location. The décor definitely leaves something to be desired. There are these pink booths paired with tables that were a bit too high(Or are the booths too short? It’s hard to tell. Either way, you feel like your face is really close to your meal.) and the rest was mismatched bar/restaurant motif, which is par for the course ’round these parts. Our meals were all decent. I had the crab stuffed flounder(yum!) which came with a salad to start, over-cooked mushy vegetables, and a baked potato. Everything, besides the vegetables, was better than average. However, the wait time was longer than expected, considering we were the only table in the restaurant ordering food when we arrived. If the presentation and the restaurant environment had been more appealing, they would receive a higher rating. Speaking of the rating… for me, everything is relative. Down here there is a different standard for dining, so I have to rate based on their competitors. Since I’ve been to the Myakka River Oyster Bar and gave that two stars and BPG place is way better than that Myakka, but they both cater to a similar crowd, Bay Pointe deserves at least 3. The food is great and if they improve the overall experience(and food time) it will be unstoppable. Probably stopping by for a Friday Fish Fry would be the best option.

Stopped here for the Friday fish fry. An all you can(or care to) eat for $ 8.99 and a great deal at that. You get a plate full of fresh basso, a mild white fish, fries and slaw. On top of that, you get a soup or salad as well. The décor is not much. It is not really a dive or a diner, just a small, no-frills restaurant. If you a fancy place, you might look elsewhere. If you want a nice little dinner, check it out. So far, the best fish fry we have found. (I’m told they have a good breakfast as well… checking on that soon)
