We had a fantastic lunch here! My family of four along with my parents. Smaller size place, but great food and service by the staff. Restraurant and bathrooms were clean.

Great place for breakfast in Ephraim. There was no wait as we got there pretty early. All of the staff was very friendly and provided great customer service. We both ordered the Matzke scramble with scones as we saw others with it and it looked great. About 5 minutes after ordering the food arrived, hot and fresh. The scramble with potatoes was delicious as were the scones, would definitely order again. The price was very reasonable for the quality and quantity. As it got nicer outside we watched the patio fill up which over looks the harbor. Great view, service and food, what more could you ask for.

Return trip for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding — it was a «restaurant takeover» as we had the entire place. We had appetizers outside before dinner. The bruschetta was very good, service was attentive. Dinners were brought out promptly. The chicken salad was ok — kinda dry. The fish was excellent — a tilapia with mango salsa and risotto. I had the burger — a little dry but good flavor. Desert was great — you cannot beat their pie! This place has the best coffee around — finally a restaurant with coffee with some body to it! Goes great with the pie :-)

A DC staple, we love the fresh food and the charming atmosphere. We have had dinner here a number of times and never had a bad meal. Breakfast sounds great although we have never eaten it here.

Friendly service here but staff is practically overwhelmed by crowds. Ordered one of the bfast wraps but curiously it was pressed on the griddle(to seal it?) making it something one would not want to pick up. Scones here are not typical style IMO and I would call them sconettes since they are so small. Server was good but check was slow to arrive – checks are manually prepared and added up. BIGBUMMER

Pleasant atmosphere. Tasty food. Got the herb crusted salmon which was good but slightly overlooked. Root vegetables cooked perfectly. Spoke to several other fellow hotel guests who had eaten there and everyone had a positive experience. Beware – no alcohol since little Ephraim is the only dry spot in all of Wisconsin.

My wife and I wanted to try the«Hat» for lunch. We asked the server if we could eat outside. There were at least 6 or 7 nice vacant tables with umbrellas available. the server insisted on seating us jammed against the building in the sun. When we objected and asked for one of the umbrella tables, the server refused stating that those tables were reserved for larger groups. However, at least three umbrella tables were occupied by 2 or less people. Had they met their quota? Really, it was 12:15 no crowd, nobody waiting! And yes, the server let us walk! Unbelievable!

There’s no better place to enjoy a morning than to have breakfast outside at the Chef’s Hat. The coffee, the scrambles, the scones, all superb. Always a good choice.

We had a great time and good food on the outdoor deck for dinner. The only complaint was the slow and inconsistent service. Our server seemed very flustered and the restaurant did not even seem that busy. We ordered an appetizer and she forgot all about ordering it for us — but she did make up for it by offering us a free desert. Hopefully they will get the bugs worked out as the summer season gets underway. Still recommended in spite of the service glitches.

Gluten free bread makes for a great lunch when someone has an intolerance!!! Husband said the pie is amazing too! Both of our sandwiches were great and it was nice being right in town. Parking was easy and got sat right away.

Absolutely perfect breakfast spot! This was by far both of our favorite meals of our weeks stay in Door County! I had the Eye Opener wrap with a blueberry scone and fresh fruit– definitely fresh and amazing flavors! My spouse had the Southwest scramble with black bean and salsa toast– he couldn’t have been happier! We can be typical eggs and meat people, but this venture was phenomenal! Prices were below those of most places for value, flavor and portion sizes. We tip our hats to the chef in his!

Just a great local place with an excellent burger and sandwich menu. If I had any criticism it would be that with the low ceilings and small area make it a bit loud on the inside. I will definitely return.

Pumpkin Pear soup and half a sandwich mine was chicken salad a Little dry could of used a bit more mayo but liked the red grapes in It. Potato salad also needed s little more zing maybe do some mustard with it also potatoes needed to be cooked longer I’m not a fan of al dente potatoes. Jim’s burger was good a little bloody for med well. Should of let the burger rest a little before putting on The bun. Pear soup was good nice flavors all in all a cute spot great view of the lake Will come back to try other things on the menu

well here in door county, things don’t really start opening up until memorial day, so it was hard just finding a place to stop and eat. everywhere was closed, and as we drove around, any place that seem to have some sign of life usually meant they were getting ready for the busy season. luckily, i called chefs hat café at 12:58pm and was told that they are open until 2:00pm — just enough time for us to rush over there and grab some lunch. we pulled up to a cute little house looking restaurant. it seemed pretty full — atmosphere had the vibe of a local favorite. we were seated almost immediately. having read some of the reviews, my family ordered two scrambles(the meat lovers and matzke(sp?)), a belgian waffle with berries and maple syrup, and the gorgonzola burger. we were delighted to see that they served beef and eggs from the local waseda farm(which we visited earlier that day and bought some steaks for dinner). a few comments about the food: the scrambles were great. good amount of meat and great flavor. the andouille sausage was the best part of the scramble. belgian waffle was solid but nothing special. the burger was good too — you can tell the beef is really fresh, even during the«off-season». the highlight! the scones. OMG the scones. when you order, eat it first when it’s hot. i can’t quite describe it… it’s like this crumbly-but-not-too-crumbly with a little bit of chewiness to it, not too sweet warm goodness. i tried both the cranberry white chocolate and the blueberry. both great. it was so good that i order one to go(which, btw, i do not advised because it was cold and did not have the same goodness as the ones that came with the scramble). but yes, the scones as everyone has been raving about. i would come back just for the scones. also the fruit lemonades were good too — fresh fruit purée in lemonade. the service was pretty good. there was a gentleman and a lady who served us. the man was pretty good, but the lady seemed kinda all over the place, but nothing was wrong with our order and she was really sweet. no points off for that. one thing i will note — were ordered the waffle with blueberries and stawberries, but when it came out, it also had raspberries on it. but we wished it didn’t because two of them were not in very good shape. we didn’t say anything since it was close to closing and we weren’t really expecting raspberries anyways, but a heads up nevertheless. it’s located right across the street from a beautiful dock, so go check it out after you’ve enjoyed your warm scone :)

Sorry. We never got much further than being unceremoniously pointed in the general direction of a table. No service to speak of. We sat, after asking another table to remove their coats from our chairs. Then, no follow-up. We weren’t even offered menus. No beer, wine, or spirits on the drinks menu to order. If we had a server to wait on us that is. This place *may* be great for breakfast as others have indicated, but forget it if you are looking for dinner. Besides, taking a glance around the dining room, place looked more like a retirement home than a café. Guess I’m not old enough to eat here. Oh, and the kicker? As we got up and were leaving, hearing and seeing a server with a nasty hacking cough FULLONHACK-COUGHOVERSEVERALCHECKSWITHOUTCOVERINGHISMOUTH. Yeah. Considering this a damn near miss.

I had a burger for lunch at Chef’s Hat: the meat was juicy if a little overcooked and you can’t beat that Wisconsin cheese. I ate the whole thing. The best part though, was my first nanaimo bar. This Canadian dessert, a combination of chocolate, graham cracker and more, needs to be on more menus south of the border.

SOLID! This place impressed me after a weekend of mediocre meals in northern Door County’s off-season. I point out the off-season because I’m hoping there is better food to be had when more tourists visit the area. I hope so anyway. This restaurant, however, puts out great product in the off-season, too. Our group of 20 made a reservation a week in advance and converged for breakfast. There were a few egg scrambles that caught my eye, but I decided on the Matzke($ 8.99), including bacon, ham, andouille sausage, bell peppers, onion, tomato, mushrooms, tossed with white sharp cheddar and homemade pesto — what you said! I know. That just sounds awesome, doesn’t it? Well, it WAS! It came served with a side of red, diced pan fried breakfast potatoes, and my choice of toasted artisan bread or a fresh-baked scone. One of the toast options was rosemary and olive oil and scone flavors included white chocolate raspberry and apple cinnamon. So I did what any other human would do. I ordered the fresh baked white chocolate raspberry scone AND the rosemary and olive oil toasted artisan bread. Both were stellar. The scone stayed warm even after I inhaled my Matzke scramble. It was crisp and soft and I think I heard a harp playing when I bit into it. The service was on point and the manager pitched in and checked on us regularly. THIS is what I expect when I eat at an establishment in Door County, where there is plenty of competition for business. I would gladly go back to the Chef’s Hat and I highly recommend you patronize them when you’re in Door County. I challenge another Door County restaurant to serve me a better breakfast experience than I had at the Chef’s Hat.

Chef’s Hat Café was REALLY good! I recommend the cinnamon roll above all else! This place is a really cute house in a prime location right on the lake. It’s so convenient to see the pier and explore along the shore. We sat outside so the ambiance was incredible! Our server was really sweet and very knowledgeable about the menu, which was convenient for us! The food we ordered and received was REALLY good. I got a skillet, and the potatoes here are out of this world! Well next to the cinnamon roll, that is! ;) And I added andouille sausage to my skillet, and it took it to a whole new level! My daughter enjoyed her waffle, and there was plenty of food for us to be able to share with my son, who claimed he wasn’t hungry.(But ate a ton of our food!) We took the leftovers home from my husband’s french toast, and they were just as good later! I highly reccommend this place! Yummy eats for good prices!

It was the second(and last) morning of our girls’ weekend in Door County. We needed some sustenance. The four of us are terribly indecisive, so our hostess said«here, choose between [other restaurant] and Chef’s Hat.» Nobody else wanted to decide, so I looked at the menu and decided Chef’s Hat fit the bill. We were seated immediately on the patio and given menus and water. The menu was nicely diverse and tempting — scrambles, wraps, waffles, French toast. A little bit of an upgrade from your standard-issue diner, with lots of fresh veggies in the mix. I went with a «Matzke» scramble that had eggs, bacon, ham, various veggies, pesto and cheese and was served with potatoes and choice of scone or toast. Well geez, when given the choice of fresh scone, get the scone! I chose raspberry white chocolate chip. The scramble was really really tasty, the potatoes were solid, and those scones — wow. So good. Definitely fresh baked and with a great texture. All of my friends enjoyed their food and scones as well, and we definitely enjoyed the view from the patio. It was a great way to spend a breakfast with awesome food. If you’re in the area looking for some food, I definitely recommend it.
