Dennis @ Performance Solar was great to work with! He provided a quote on a system that would get us the most possible return for the amount of space we had to work with and then provided realistic expectations on what to expect and how long it would take. I am more than satisfied… our bill has been reduced significantly and with the electric rates continuing to rise, this was the best thing we could have done. Thank you Performance Solar for not overpromising — and now the product is exceeding my expectations in the end.

I just had a new solar pool heating system installed before the 4^th of July weekend. My wife loves the warm pool temperature the system provides. I love the fact that after the original investment in the system, it’s all free coming form the sun.
Great product, great value, great customer service.
Not sure what the bad reviews are all about. I would definitely recommend Performance Solar.

Absolutely, the worst company I have ever worked with. Product is constantly a problem and they are unwilling to fix it properly. The product leaks and continues to leak. Horrible customer service and now do not return my emails or phone calls. If you look at other reviews you will see consistently the same problem. Time to take this problem to the next level… Strongly recommend a more reputable company.

I contracted with Performance Solar to replace the solar system for my in ground pool. The Sales person we nice and seemed to be knowledgeable and the installation was done when promised. That is where the good part ends.
The new solar panels leaked and the drain valve was not installed. When contacting Performance Solar to resolve the issues, commitment to return calls or make repair visits we often not kept. When the system was finally «repaired», leaks continued and the drain was still not installed. It was only when I stopped payment and threatened legal action that the work was promptly and properly completed.
Given my experience with Performance Solar, I am not able to recommend them. If you do decide to use them, be prepared for a frustrating experience.

My pool man who I’ve had for many years recommended this company so I did not do my research which was a huge mistake on my part. They came within days to give me an estimate and install the system. The system came with a 12 year Warrenty on the panels and 20 year warranty on the pipes. I called because I have a hole in one of the pipes the girl on the phone was very rude! They charge $ 125 servce charge which they demand over the phone with your credit card before booking a so called appointments (since they don’t give you a date or time, they say ‘next week’) to come out to your home, which by the way was not disclosed at the time I purchased the system that is STILL under warranty. It’s been 4 weeks and no one has come out to assess the leak, I keep calling and keep being told next week we will be in your area. HORRIBLE SERVICE. STAY AWAY!!! I would not recommend this company GO to another solar place.

Unless there’s a good class action lawsuit (and I don’t usually participate in them,) but you guys suck so bad, and and are so damaging to businesses, that I would join class and draw a little blood from your over-​compensated executives. Time for you workers to polish up the resume and hit the streets!

I researched several solar companies and products, as well as checking references. In my opinion, Performance Solar has the best product available for pool solar. I did not check other types of solar products, so I will only speak on the pool solar equipment and process. Every aspect of the process went great. They were on time, polite, and professional. I was given a thorough briefing on how the equipment operates and it is performing as advertised. They exceeded my expectations. For example, they painted the PVC piping to match the existing piping around my pumping station. I really did not care if it matched, but Fernando insisted he wanted it to look professional. The other workers were friendly and answered any questions I asked. Dennis, the owner, followed up a few days later to see if I had any questions or issues and gave me his direct number. I know of at least two other’s who had Performance solar install their pool solar over 10 years ago, and they have not had a single issue. This is a solid company who provides a great product at a reasonable price, and they do quality work. I would not hesitate to refer them to family and friends.

I don’t think that there was one year in the ten years or so that we have had this equipment that we did not have some sort of leaking problem.
We called them again this year, as there was quite a bit of water coming off of the roof, and they told us that we had 4 «frost damaged» panels, and it would require a replacement at the cost of almost $ 7,000.00.
If we could go back and do it over again, we would go with a different company, that is what we are looking into now.
We simply don’t have confidence in this company. Their customer service is bad, I have, in the past, been begging for someone to come out the next day, as we had company coming and wanted a heated swimming pool… and there was never a commitment for a firm appointment time for repairs.

Have spoken with the owner several times. He sounds sincere but nothing is done. He first claimed to have come to assess the situation but his «ladder was not high enough to go up on the roof.» He promised to return but never did. I spoke with him again and he was to come by on a Saturday. I waited all day for him, never leaving the house for a minute. He was a no-​call-​no-​show and I’ve heard nothing since then (a week ago). What a disreputable company!

Purchased their solar panels 7 years ago. Unfortunately, they have leaked from the beginning. The first surprise was when the warranty work suddenly started costing nearly $ 150 each time they came out. Paying $ 150 for something under warranty doesn’t sound right. After paying that every 3 months for the past 7 tears, they now tell me that I should replace the entire system for nearly $ 10,000. The 15 year warranty? Well, apparently that doesn’t cover my situation. In my prior house, I had a similar solar system that never leaked in 8 years. Steer clear of this company!

I just looked at a Leak that i have in a panel. I see after paying $ 175.00 for their yearly maintenance charge last year., they put in a plug for a cracked line in the panel. gee I ordered 10 for $ 12.00 on line. Really. now their damn plug is leaking and i bet if i call them it will be another charge, and they did not do any maintenance on the panel or the system… they will chafe for this and not do anything for the cost… this company is a big Rip Off!!! Oh yea give them a referral and try to collect their referral fee they promise. it is not happening as i do not know if the person that referred us ever got his money from the scammers.

Very unreliable and rude on the phone. Although I had a safety issue with my solar panals they said they couldn’t set up an appt but someone come out in the next seven days and that they would call me the day before. After I heard nothing for seven days I called them…“oh, we don’t work on weekends so they don’t count.” ! I called another her company who came within 48 hours

Performance Solar does not schedule appoinments. They only said they will come out sometime during the week and then they never showed up and didn’t call to say they were unable to make it. Once I called back and explained the urgency for repair they sent someone out that day. I wish they would have contacted me when they could not make it out within the time frame they gave me when they first called.

We had our panels installed 2003, Aqua therm Industry panels. Performance Solar did a great sales pitch, looked like wonderful warranty, good installation. But beware if you have any future issues, leaks, parts that need replacement. They also promise you more panels in the future at discounted prices, that is also not true. The service part of their customer service is fraudulent, management is rude & unfriendly, does not care about the warranty. Now trying to deal with Aqua Therm directly for parts. SO BUYERS BEWARE! Check with Pool Service people before deciding on installation company.

If I could give ZERO stars I would. Performance Solar has Terrible customer service and are quite frankly very rude after you have paid them and need their service. There service reps showed up to my house with no ladder, no flashlight, no equipment what-​so-​ever to perform an inspection. After lending them the equipment, they still had the audacity to accuse me of faking a leak by using different paint colors. The owner was amazingly rude over the phone. After the inspection for a leak they had the nerve to bill me for their so-​called service. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY… YOU WILL REGRET IT!

The warranty is a joke. If you call they run 3 weeks out for any service call. They show up without calling or scheduling and then if you don’t answer the door they charge you a service call.
Then when they do show I have never had my system corrected properly and I’m told its a «new issue». Then they charge you again… it goes on and no.
They won’t give you an invoice and just run a credit card on file… don’t give it.

Performance Solar will charge you for any type of service, warranty or not!
I had Performance Solar instal the solar panels in ’05. I called Performance Solar once in ’06 because the system was not heating my pool. Performance Solar came out and simply flipped a switch and then tried to charge me $ 127.50! There are zero visits from this company that are covered under the warranty so read your contract closely. Oh, and they won’t tell you that either.
So now in 2012 I call them to come out and fix my panels because they have cracked and leak water. The panels are under warranty so I’m assuming a free visit? No way, regardless if its under warranty or not, they charge $ 127.50. So once the Performance Solar service person gets here he informs me that 2 panels need to be replaced but the clamps that hold the panels to the PVC pipes are not under warranty and needs to charge $ 50 per panel, $ 100 total. The same clamps cost $ 1.50 at Home Depot. Again, there was no mention of this charge and the clamps are the only part holding the solar panels to the the PVC piping.
It even says in the Warranty that «…replacement of parts is included» But I guess this does not mean the $ 1.50 clamp that they charge $ 50 for.
I DO NOT recommend Performance Solar out of Escondido. Read your contract, they will charge you for anything they can.

These guys should be stopped by the department of consumer affairs.
They sold me an expensive pool heating solar system (about 10k) to «save money on gas and be greener». What a joke. What the idiots failed to mention is that by placing the panels on the roof the the roof would be completely ruined. In addition because of the distance from the pool and the height gain of the panels on the roof… the pool equipment was overpressured causing the pool filter to literally blow apart about 5 years after it was installed ($ 500).
Even worse, they assured me mounting the panels on the roof would not ruin the roof (only 3 years old at the time). WRONG! The installation holes started leaking 3 – 4 years after the install. They came back out and charged me another $ 300 to tune up the system and stop the leaks. 1 year later all the original leaks started leaking again as well as 2 or 3 new ones. The inside of my nice wood roof is completely ruined. Now I have to look at 1) moving the panels off the roof, 2) replacing the roof, and 3) replacing/​reparing the interior WOOD ceiling. If I am lucky the cost of doing the above 3 things will be about 20,000 but could be more.
So if you add that 20k to the original 10k, your at about 30k to save on cheap natural gas? These guys have cost me more than half the cost of the original pool.
These guys are total ripoffs do not do business with them they have no idea what they are doing.

Great Product — Terrible Installation and Customer Service —
I had my solar panels installed a few years ago. We have been very happy and the pool stays heated enough to extend our swimming season a few months each year.
This last weekend I was on my roof and found that all 15 clamps secured to the roof by quarter inch bolts had ripped right out of my roof. The solar panels had slid down the roof by about a foot because of this. Quarter inch boldts don’t just pull out on their own, and I could understand if it had been 1 or 2 of them, but all 15 lead me to believe that the panels were secured to the roof improperly.
Prior to having the panels installed I had a new roof put on the house and the roofer said there was no rotting or damage to the under part of the roof (if there had been I’m sure he would have bid the job to repair/​replace the damaged areas) so I know the roof they drilled the pilot holes into was structurally sound.
Additionally, when I bought the panels for over $ 4500 the salesman said the clamps and tie downs would withstand huricane force winds. This being San Diego, the wind in this location should not have been strong enough to pull out quarter inch bolts that are about 2 to 2.5 inches long out of the roof, let alone all 15 of the clamps.
I called Performance Solar and expressed my dissatisfaction. After going over all the details above they would not fix the issue for less than $ 300-​$ 400. When I asked what I would get with that I was told they guaranteed reinstallation service for 30 days. If they guarantee initial installation for 12 months, but then the reinstallation for 30 days, what does that tell you about their confidence level regarding their installers.
I feel very ripped off that my family paid thousands of dollars to get these panels and now I’m either stuck paying hundreds for a reinstall when it wasn’t done right the first time or I have to figure out a way to repair it myself.
Note: To even get them out to my house to look at the panels/​damage they required a $ 127 pre charge to my credit card that «would be taken off the work if it was performed». That means they wouldn’t even come take a look at their subpar install job without charging me a fee.
Terrible customer service and they do not stand behind their installation

Our solar panels worked themselves loose in the recent storms. We called Performance Solar and they had them repaired and in working order within a day. Now thats great service!
