I used to come here often to get some cheap sushi. But it seems like things have changed. I came here today to eat lunch. It wasn’t busy at all so we sat down fast. The AC must have been broken or something because it was really hot in there and they were just using fans and had the back door open. The waitress was not really attentive. It took 40 minutes just to get the 3 rolls we ordered. They didn’t even provide us chopsticks when our food came. I had to grab it off an empty table next to us. I had to ask what happened to our order since it was taking forever. The waitress just said she checked and they were making it now and we ordered one fried roll so it would take longer. They didn’t even apologize for the long wait. Horrible service! I won’t be coming back here anytime soon. The food was rushed and not that good. It was just really horrible service here. I heard other tables asking about how much longer it was going to take to get their food. One table just cancelled their extra order for a roll since they didn’t even start making it and they were almost done with their meal. It looks like management has changed and it’s different here now. Be warned that the service is not up to par with the other sushiya’s you may have been to. If this was how the service was when it wasn’t busy, I can only imagine how it is on a busy day.

I think this place is under new management or something because this place has changed. I used to come here quite a bit for some good priced sushi, but it’s more pricey now and the service has declined. I came here on a Saturday afternoon. There were other customers in the restaurant but it wasn’t packed. Once we got seated, I noticed that the order sheets were different. The typical menu items changed. It still had the«50% off» section, but if you’re going to change the menu, you might as well put the«discounted» price. And the 50% off items are limited now. Whatever, that didn’t bother me too much The service was ridiculously slow. I can’t imagine how long it would take if the place was packed. We over heard some lady tell a server that they were still waiting for one roll, and if they haven’t worked on it to just cancel it. Then my husband asked the server where our rolls were and she said«they’re working on it right now. But since you ordered a deep fried one that’s why it’s taking longer.» That doesn’t explain why our other non deep fried rolls weren’t out yet. Our rolls didn’t even come out at the same time. Then we heard another lady complain about how it was taking forever to get her rolls. Ayyyy. What makes it worse? The restaurant was hot! Air conditioner was off or not working! What’s also upsetting is that the server never updated us on the food status before we complained and never apologized for the wait. We finally got our rolls and and we then discovered we didn’t have chopsticks. We waited a minute or two to see if we can grab a server’s attention but we just took them off a different table. Then the server saw and said«sorry about that.» The rolls were good. Not the best around town to make up for the poor service. The rolls aren’t even a cheap price to make the trip worth it. Save your money and appetite for a different sushi place!

This place used to be good. Now every time I go it takes forever for them to make your sushi, even when it’s not busy, and by the time it gets to you it’s warm. For the quality of sushi and type of restaurant it’s much too expensive. Won’t be coming here anymore.

Just not good. Why did I come here?! Rolls are so flavorless, Their sushi bar needs more work, it doesn’t look clean– looks dirty. Rather go to loveboat! Food is bad, Service is good.

I love this place. The price and service is really what I’m rating here. Listen, those expecting to get five star fish quality need to have realistic expectations. It’s next to a Party City guys. But the food is actually very good. You cannot beat the prices. The people and service are great. I recommend the snowball, albacore special, and the Hawaiian. My husband loves the gyozas.

Good quality and a reasonable price, not a top sushi restaurant but you get good food at a good price and its local so I try to eat there one a week if I have the time. Dave is a stand out employee there and always remembers what I like and how I like it.

Food was alright. Nothing special. I had the Albacore Special and my mom got the Crunchy Roll. Rolls are pretty basic here and I wanted fish so that was the only roll on special that sounded okay. Service was mediocre as well. I took my mom here for Mothers Day and every lady in the place got flowers except my mom… Which kind of sucked. They kept asking us If we were ready when we weren’t and when we were ready, it was like everyone was too busy.

Sam makes this place 5 stars, he is the best sushi chef ever! If it weren’t for Sam I would only give them 3 stars. It wasn’t that busy when we went for dinner on Friday night and we sat at the bar. It is clean and kind of on the smaller side. We had our drink orders taken right away. Then we ordered edamame and let Sam make them magical as only he can do. The fish seems fresh and the way Sam combines all the ingredients elevates the fish to 5 stars. So basically what I am saying is the sushi chef makes all the difference.

Sam is fantastic! So happy to find that Sam has landed a Home. I have been here before and I will have to say it was not 5 star food, nor 5 star experience, however with Sam, you will be delighted. If you have not had the chance to stop in I would suggest it! The restaurant itself is clean, there are TVs to watch sports! The sushi bar is set up well, there was not an abundance of noise, great experience!

We eat here all the time(once a week!) and the food is consistently great! The service is lacking at times but the food & the sushi chefs make up for it! The rolls are all incredibly fresh and the chicken teriyaki and kolbei beef(sp?) is fantastic! Huge portions and inexpensive. The place is always cool and clean!

I’m very disappointed in this sushiya location. The service is mediocre — but the worst part is their sushi. Whenever I order a roll that has crab in it the color is slightly gray. The coloring of the crab really freaks me out and the quality of their fish is very poor. The San Marcos location has better quality sushi even though they’re a chain. If you’re a sushiya fan I’d recommend sticking to the San Marcos location.

The food is great the service is poor. My family and I went there for an impromptu dinner and they didn’t have anything on special like other sushi places. They only had beer on special. The rolls we ordered were great, even had a few that I have never heard of. What really killed it was the service: the server didn’t know the menu and was inattentive. She had to ask us multiple times to repeat ourselves, and I am always told I speak very loudly, so it was frustrating. Secondly the server never checked up on us while we were eating, I had to fall her down to get refills. Lastly which really pissed me off was that she openly mocked customers when she thought she was out of earshot that left the restaurant on how much they tipped her. Very disrespectful. I don’t plan on visiting there again if I can help it.

Great sushi place! I came here with my wife and daughter on Valentine day. This place is quite crowded. We’ve ordered chicken bento and some sushi rolls. The food is delicious with decent price. One of the waitress, I think her name is Mai, she always smile and was very nice to us. Free refill with most soft drinks. We’ll definitely come back!

A great place to have some funny twist on normal sushi. I recommend asking for chef special and tell him the flavors you like. Tell them Tim the magic man sent you. The manager was my sushi chef in Paso Robles when I worked out there for a year every Thursday. It was great seeing him on a chance visit to Escondido. Hot saki please.

I used to love Sushiya and their 50% off sushi. That’s all I ever ate so I got used to it. Years went by and we stopped eating sushi(young kids played a big part of this). Recently we ate at a full priced sushi bar and I understood why they charge so much and why places like Sushiya are discounted. So after a long break, we came back to Sushiya for a lunch. We ordered various rolls and a noodle dish. The Rolls were noticeably smaller here than at the full priced place. The rolls themselves were fine, nothing special. Perhaps more of a reality check when it comes to sushi price vs. quality ratio. I guess in the end you get what you pay for. Sushiya plays an important role by offering affordable options that everyone can enjoy. It’s A-OK and the kids like it.

Sushiya! Nice ring to it. I have seen this place a bunch of times but for some reason I just don’t trust Sushi in Escondido. Don’t ask me why. I felt adventurous tho, and I wasnt afraid of being sick the next day so I decided to walk in to sushiya. I noticed it was a really nice restaurant, very clean and it had a long bar with no one sitting at it. I was by myself so I knew thats were I was sitting. The staff was very friendly and the sushi chef was very nice too he asked for me to sit in front of him. Maybe he wanted to see my eating methods but I think he wanted to be able to serve me better. While I sat I noticed they had a lot of cool decorations from they cool dripping lights on the window to the flying Koy on the wall. I knew I didnt want the boring california roll or the common spicy tuna roll so when the waitress arrived I asked her for recommendations. She was very nice, gave me a few recommendations and I ended up going with the«Albacore Special» $ 7 and«fresh water eel Unagi» $ 4. I also ordered a «Spicy Ginger Edamame» $ 4. That chef was super fast had my order out in a minute, even before the edamame. Once I got everything it all looked so delicious. Sushi in its way is an art form so it was so pretty I didnt want to eat it but then I devoured it. Oh man that Albacore Special was soo good. My taste buds just exploded with flavor. The soft fatty albacore just melted in my mouth, but it wasnt mushy by no means, I had a great crunchy bite of shrimp tempura in every piece. The Unagi was really flavorful, ao soft it gave you the sensation it was melting. The spicy ginger edamame was delicious too. Next time I will order a sapporo with it for sure. Sushiya did not let me down.
