After trying several random Chinese restaurant, I learnt that I should stop doing that. Unfortunately, noodle and café turned out to be a disappointment. Despite the big portion that they gave you, the food was crappy. I had a stomachache eating those food. The service on the other hand, as I mentioned a lot in others review for Asian restaurant. Well, typical asian service, but this one is somehow manage to cross that limit. We were abandon for most the time we were there. The lady showed up 2 time to delivery the food and give the check. I think that said a lot already. I won’t be back

My daughter and I went here for the first time this afternoon. We had steam buns as a first course and they were very good, not the sweet pork filling I’ve had before, but delicious. Our main courses were the dried(I think they meant fried) tofu and shrimp and the orange chicken. The chicken was wonderful, as was the tofu. I would have preferred more sauce for the shrimp though. Negatives: My daughter’s green tea was not hot enough to steep, so we sent it back. Also, the table and chairs, as well as the menus, were sticky. All in all, it was great though. I’ll be back, if only for the scallion pancakes!

One of our favorite restaurants. Not much on atmosphere but the food is excellent and reasonably priced. Almost every time we go there are several Chinese students(from UO I suspect) who are eating there. Very friendly service.

I really like this place It’s authentic Chinese food, in a part of town where you would expect to find none we’ve already come back a few times, cause the food tastes really good, especially the noodle soups are big and delicious(try the lamb one!) they also have a lot of crazy Chinese dishes such as fuqi feipian(google it!), cold noodle, intestines, dried tofu with beef(my favorite) even the Americanized dishes, such as orange chicken, are very good, and they are not as heavy and fried as in other places around town I give it four and not five stars because it’s very unrefined food, that could use a bigger attention for details, and the restaurant could use a little more care, since it’s just a big room

If you are looking for great authentic Chinese food, this is the place. Don’t be put off by the atmosphere, this is great food, great host, and the best hotpot in town. And any dish with their homemade noodles is worth trying.

Great authentic food. The scallion pancakes are excellent! Understaffed at lunch time so the service was poor.

This place is amazing on several different levels. First of all, it’s the best Chinese I’ve eaten on the west coast south of Seattle and north of the Golden Gate Bridge(I’ve never had the occasion to try a restaurant in Portland, though I’m sure there’s plenty of good stuff there). The menu is small and different from most anything you’ll find outside of places like Oakland’s Chinatown. I was tempted by a number of unusual items, such as the«pit bread served in pig’s intestine» and I have no idea what pit bread is. But I was with wife and daughter and I didn’t want to gross them out. What’s also amazing about this place — it’s not located in downtown Eugene, near the campus. It’s in a strip mall outside of town. But my wife and I had the only white faces in the restaurant(I suspect that students make up much of their customer base and they’re still out for the summer). There is a definite language barrier and we tried to order a noodle dish and ended up with duck noodle soup. No complaints really — it was a little underseasoned but there are plenty of exotic condiments on the table to make the adjustment. We ordered the scallion pancakes, which were the best I’ve ever had anywhere! Served with a delicious sauce I didn’t recognize. We also ordered the steamed pork buns which were different from the usual fare — kind of chewy instead of cakey, but just delicious! And my daughter loved the avocado salad, laced with other vegetables including seaweed with a delicious dressing — no idea what was in it. But my favorite dish of the night was dried tofu with prawns — it wasn’t spicy — some real subtle but full flavors, like nothing I’ve had before. It wasn’t just a meal. It was an experience. I think many customers might be scared away by the menu. They don’t have a lot of the expected items, and some of them were unknown to me. As the woman serving us, I believe she’s the owner, doesn’t speak much English, I think you just have to take your chances — which is fine with me! I wished I lived closer so I could explore the whole menu! By the way, even the tea was memorable! No fortune cookies at the meal’s end, but instead big slices of delicious watermelon for palate cleansing! Also very reasonably priced! I don’t know why there are two dollar signs in the description above. Just, if you live in or around Eugene, give them a try. And try to be patient — just think of it as a culinary adventure. You don’t know how lucky you are to have something like this here. There is no place like it in my home county — I would give a limb for a place like it in my county! I have to drive 300 miles south to find something like this. There weren’t many customers there tonight, so Eugene, don’t blow this!

Went here for the first time today. We had the Scallion Pancake and Hot Spicy Cucumber appetizers. Both were excellent. I had the Kung Pao Vegetarian Chicken as my entrée. The meat substitute was Bean Sprout with Glulen. It was spongy and worked well with the dish. I enjoyed it as an alternative to tofu. The meal was topped off with complimentary watermelon slices at the end. The vibe was homey in a pleasant way. The food came very quickly. The only thing we would have changed is to have a water refill. But to be fair, the water glasses we did get were very large and we never asked for a refill. I’m looking forward to trying out more from their menu. We’ll definitely return.

Off the beatin path of from the college. This restaurant has good & cheap food. Seaweed salad, veggie noodles, scallion pancake, pork momo buns all yum. We also had the pork scallion pie things. They were too green onion flavored for me. $ 20.00 with tip!

Excellent food, casual ambiance, friendly service and inexpensive. The shrimp with asparagus was simple but so tasty. Not for nothing did the owner warn us about the spicy chicken — it was phenomenal and phenomenally hot! Worth making the effort to drive across town. July 2, 2015 update: Ordered in twice since. First experience was terrible — scallion pancakes were burned, food blandest I have ever eaten. Second experience mixed. Language issues made it hard to order over the phone. Food was better but one order was messed up.

I’ve ventured way out to SW Eugene three times now to eat here and have yet to be disappointed. Noodle and Café has some very good food and some very charming«quirks». I’ll begin this review explaining the latter. The only person I have seen tending the front of house is exceptionally hard working and efficient. The language barrier is significant, however, which can be challenging as a significant portion of one of the menus is very nondescript. I am dying to know what their Fenugreek Head Noodle dish is, but when asked to describe the dish in more detail, the explanation was an emphatic wave of her hands. Because of this and from witnessing other patrons try in vain to explain their dietary allergies/concerns, I would recommend such people avoid eating here if they cannot order off the menu with some element of faith. Other«quirks» are the TV playing Love Boat reruns on a Sunday afternoon, and a free wi-fi sign whose password doesn’t work. The food I have ordered has been delicious and arrives very quickly, depending on how busy it is. Must haves: Scallion Pancake –so crispy and delicious; seriously addictive, Kung Pao chicken– lots of perfectly wok-seared veggies with just the right level of heat, Orange Chicken– for those who like fried chicken bites with a sweet and tangy, slightly tingly sticky sauce, Noodles with Tomato, Egg and Black Bean Sauce– a weirdly delicious combination that is slightly reminiscent of an Italian pasta dish. Have also other dumplings and a couple other noodle dishes that were very good. Most items make excellent leftovers, although several never seem to last more than a couple of hours, max, because of how good they are.

This is a great spot! We ordered several appetizers(scallion pancake, pork buns, golden buns, seafood dumplings) thinking we would sample those before ordering a meal, but we were stuffed by the time we finished and had no room for noodles. Everything was hot and fresh and so, so good. The service was very quick, and they brought us orange slices and two sweet cheese buns with our check! Everything was reasonably priced. A really great find.

All of a sudden Eugene has, dare I say, a thriving Chinese food scene. After many years of terrible Americanized version of Chinese, we now have Kung Fu Bistro, Tasty Chong Qing and 221BCE. Add another to the list with Noodle and Café Hot Pot. Located south of Churchill High School near Koho Bistro, it’s quite unassuming inside and out. Takeout counter is up front, and the dining room is to the left. It’s as anonymous as it gets, about 60 seats with red vinyl chairs, pedestal tables, black and white tile floor, and stock framed pictures. The one TV in the room was not on when we visited for Saturday lunch, and there was no music of any kind, not even the cheesy Chinese pop common nowadays. The menu is fairly small, but full of interesting options. It doesn’t quite qualify as dim sum, but there are some items you could find in such a place. Scallion pancake was thin and crispy, not too oily. Steamed pork buns were small but tasty. Seafood dumplings(jiaozi) were pan-fried and not at all doughy. Duck noodle soup was big enough to feed two or more, and included bok choy, but it was underseasoned. It was a very good bargain as well. For the price of a couple of mediocre sweet and sour pork entrees, we got a nice variety of items. We’ll have to come back for hot pot at dinnertime.

Extremely friendly people working there. Very personable. The food I tried was amazingly flavorful. And very authentic. I would highly suggest or recommend this restaurant if you want authentic and out of the ordinary for flavor profiles. Blows everything you know about Asian cuisine out the door.

Third day in business I found this treasure. Not too found of noodles/soup type of dining but this place changed my mind. Very fresh handmade noodles, the spinach noodles were my favorite. The shrimp was outstanding and cooked perfectly. The service was great, very friendly. It’s really a great place for good food! The price is very reasonable. I’m going back this week. You’ve got to try it! Really good. It is quiet now, but when this is found by others, it may not be!

I’m so excited about this new restaurant that I’m posting my first ever Unilocal review. It’s tucked away by the Koho Bistro, on Bailey Hill south of 18th. Their menu is mostly noodle dishes and hot pot, plus a good selection of appetizers and other things, but it’s not your typical Chinese menu. Service is super friendly and attentive, though there is a bit of a language barrier if you have questions about the menu. The scallion pancakes and seafood dumplings are must-haves. The vegetable noodle soup is outstanding… The broth, noodles, and vegetables are all flavorful, and the vegetables have good texture(which can be hard to come by in vegetable soups). The egg rolls are a bit too greasy, but the flavor is great and the wrapper-to-filling ratio are what I hope for in an egg roll… a thin wrapper with the focus on the stuff inside. None of that thick doughy thing that most Eugene-area egg rolls are guilty of. The hot pot is a fun experience for a group, and quite affordable. They brought out plates of ingredients for us to choose from, and everything looked really fresh. We ended up going with a variety of meat, seafood, and veggies, and everything tasted great. They have also expanded their menu to include more non-noodle dishes(we’ve had ma po tofu and spicy crawfish). Vegetarians beware: there may be meat in your tofu dish, but it will be delicious. It’s a lovely addition for those of us on the West side of town, but worth the drive for anyone who likes noodles and/or good food.
