Had a gyro and some dolmas. They were awesome!!! Good for vegetarians too. I will be coming back for sure

Updating my review for Poppi’s specifically due to the last couple of visits me and my partner made during lunch hours. Both times the service was quite terrible. We are regulars, and hoped that it was perhaps a fluke(dinner service has always been lovely), unfortunately that wasn’t the case. The server(same person both times) was apathetic and extremely unfriendly and awkward. Hard not to take that kind of service personal. If this had been my first encounter with Poppi’s I would have never returned. Definitely won’t be visiting again during lunch hours.

First time here, found it on Unilocal and I’m glad I did because it’s almost invisible foe the street. The special tonight was Coconut Chicken Curry. It came served with rice and a selection of the most fabulous chutneys. The curry was perfect. I forgot to take pictures because it smelled so good I started right away. Amazing value, too. Highly recommended. I will be back!

It’s cute, well located, small and slightly romantic. Unfortunately, the overpriced food is bland and the prices are too high for what tastes like food court fare. In three visits, I’ve not had a noteworthy meal or pleasant server. The last time I went, already knowing I don’t like the place, I just ordered a side of tzatsiki and rice, knowing I’d eat dinner at home after being out with friends. Even that cost over $ 10 and wasn’t worth eating. No idea how this place stays in business.

I love Poppi’s! The atmosphere is so quaint and cozy inside! This was my boyfriend and I first date spot and now it is our reoccuring date spot! We usually get the Thali Platter and share it! All of the chutneys are delicious! They have daily specials which is nice. Also, try the potato and onion bhajias! Amazing! Not only is the food good, but the service is always just as great.

This place caught our eye on the way to a different restaurant. They had a menu in the window, which I appreciated. The staff looked warm and friendly and the inside was cozy and rustic. They had a piano player in the back, which was super cool. Who doesn’t love live music? Bread was served first, and the meals were delicious. I had the spanikopita(a little less rich than I am used to, but you could tell it was fresh and home made and the sides it came with were a nice addition) and my boyfriend had one of the chicken curries– he loved the flavor. They had quite a few vegetarian options, which was nice. I saw the dessert tray go by and they all looked authentic and tasty! I would definitely recommend this to friends and would love to go back next time I’m in Eugene!

First of all, I usually only visit 4.5 star restaurants and higher when I travel, and I we gave this place a visit since it’s the highest ranking Greek place in Eugene. Now, after a three day trip eating at restaurants for lunch and dinner in Eugene– this place was the BEST we’ve eaten at! Everything tastes just how you imagine it. Very seasoned and Greek! Each bite is amazing. They even brought out extra pita for us and the appetizers are to die for! I ordered the euro plate and loved it!!! Highly reccomend!

Excellent service from the moment we walked in and were offered drinks and warm bread. Great intro into the delicious meal that was to follow. The almost vegan spanakopita served with fresh salad and stewed potatoes were very fresh and delicious. Hubby too loved his choice of kabobs. My glass of house red was yummy with the meal and all was fairly priced. The warm wood interior and tall wall tapestries were like a Swiss ski or fondue lodge– with well balanced feng shui. All was very very clean and tidy. We will seek this place out next time we pass through Eugene.

It shouldn’t be fine: Greek and Indian. But it is. It’s fine. Good enough to take home the leftovers, not good enough to bother eating the leftovers.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of North America. When this was first suggested to me when I started grad school at UO, I thought«Indian and Greek? What an odd combination». Boy, was my skepticism misplaced. The food here is light yet rich in flavor and aromatic. There are abundant options for vegans and vegetarians except on the Greek Supper Sundays, which would make me personally unable to maintain any dietary restrictions. My parents are the pickiest, most discerning eaters I know(to the point it annoys me). They both grew up in Beirut and so are very familiar with Mediterranean cuisine. This is one of the only restaurants I have taken them to multiple times and they were pleased every time with the food, cleanliness and service. That is almost a miracle. I have tasted just about everything on the regular and Sunday menu; it is all great. To highlight a few favorites: –the mezedakia is a STEAL and a wonderful way to taste a bunch of awesome, light mezze(including vegan); ordered this at least a dozen times over two years, never disappointed –saganaki: quality cheese, they cook this perfectly –kalamarakia: I normally find most calamari gross and greasy but they fry this PERFECTLY, lightly breaded and the seafood is of high quality, not rubbery at all –dinner salad with grilled shrimp: pro tip: if you are on a diet, order this and you will not feel deprived but stay –daily soup: I love soup when it is rainy and cold, which is most of the time in Eugene; I ate this several dozen times and each time I loved the soup. One day it was an eggplant soup. I normally hate eggplant, but loved the soup regardless when my mom ordered it. –kotta psiti: a greek roasted chicken lunch dish, this is divine comfort food for the mediterranean soul –standard chicken curry: this makes me question if they are lacing the food with drugs? beyond delicious –sag bhaji: if all spinach tasted this good, I’d be shoveling it down like Popeye They sell these greek port wine cookies by the register that are to die for, so exotic and fragrant. The greek rice pudding is lovely as well. The atmosphere is warm, unpretentious and clean. They often play festive greek music that is so cheerful and happy. In short: I can not recommend this restaurant enough! It is easily what I miss most about living in Eugene.

So I say to my wife, «what sounds good?» She replied«I’m feeling indian, what sounds good to you?» «Greek» I said. This conversation would make the owners cream their pants. No, this conversation never took place and never will on earth. What the hell — Greek and Indian? Whatever, I’ll give it a shot it has 4 stars on Unilocal. So I get seated and I feel like my chair is going to drop my fat azz on the floor. The thing was wobbling and I sat very intently not to make a spectacle. I think the owner thought the same thing as we both awkwardly looked up at each other as she stared deep into my soul the entire dinner. Every group was probably over the age of 50 here… besides me, my bad. Gyro plate was alright just a typical gyro I can find anywhere in town. But get this, they charge twice as much as an Albees to throw half a tomatoes and an eighth of a cucumber with some oil and vinegar to make a salad for the low price of 15 $. And no I refuse to say«yiro!» Chicken Korma curry sounded great on the menu. Thing showed up as a full piece of chicken breast with all the rib bones and spine still attached. I think I needed to take a class to eat this shiz. I thought I picked off every bone through the murky sauce that covered it but then I bite in and what do you know, a Damn bone. Straight to the gums. I swear I took roughly 30 bites and I’d say 15 of them had part of the broken spinal cord. O yeah, after trying to get through this corn maze of broken bones the shiz was dry! Sauce was good, and thank heaven the rice was cooked well, I may have killed myself right there. Ok, yeah, maybe going a little hard here, but I was pissed. The chicken won. It drew blood on my gums. You win chicken korma, I have been defeated.

Don’t go here. I don’t know what happened, but it was mostly terrible. The service was okay, as in the waiters were friendly, BUT we were given dirty glasses that had lipgloss marks all over them and I and my daughters actually put our mouths on them before we realized it! Ugh. Gross. Then when I pointed it out they gave us new glasses, but never offered to give us any kind of discount on our food, which I feel was really remiss. Then to add insult to injury, we paid what we felt was about twice as much as what the food was worth. Was the food terrible? No, but it wasn’t great either. And they were very small portions. The whole thing was a disappointing ripoff. I will never ever go there again.

So glad The Picky Family found Poppies! Mr. Picky gasped when he saw Taramasalada listed in the menu. One of our absolute favorites which we enjoyed with pita. The yiros/gyros were excellent. This told us that the rest of the items in the extensive menu will all be fabulous. We’ll return in a couple of weeks to try something exotic. Another positive was the friendliness of The Lady of the House and waitress. Mrs. Picky ended her delicious lunch with a piece of succulent baklava and she would not share.

Enjoyable experience here on a recent Friday night! Felt a little like being in NYC. Packed house with great ambience. Waitress was accommodating to my vegan friend and me. She exchanged the butter for olive oil with the bread that came with the meal. We had a couple of appetizers sharing the grape leaves and Greek olives. Both were quite good! Excellent piano playing by Chris who plays here every Friday and be sure to show your gratitude of him making the piano proud by putting some tips in his tip jar. Appreciated the special menu showing what contained dairy, gluten, and nuts. Would be even better to have a menu that shows what is vegan and vegetarian. Would have liked to have Chris the piano player be moved more toward the center of the room as opposed to playing in the back. I think his piano playing would add to the experience and diners would be better able to hear him. Will definitely be back to try some of the entrees and of course to hear Chris play the piano some more.

Best Greek food in Eugene! And they have excellent Indian selections as well! I recommend these delicious plates: Saganaki — fried sheep’s milk cheese drizzled with lemon for a sizzling effect Potato & Onion Bhajias — garbanzo fritters with coconut chutney Yiros Pita Sandwich — beef, lamb, tzatziki goodness Vindaloo Chicken Curry — VERYSPICY! But all curries come with a four chutneys Sag Bhaji — Spinach curry with chutneys Kotta Psiti — Greek roasted chicken, always cooked perfectly, seasoned well, meat falls off the bone! The best thing I’ve ever eaten here was a daily special: a pie made with filo dough, feta, spinach, and eggplant with roasted potatoes and a tomato/cabbage side. Everything on this plate was AMAZING! Try a glass of their Retsina(pine wine). It’s my partner’s go to drink here! Also try their Greek coffee: omg SO good! But don’t drink it all down because very fine coffee grounds sit at the bottom of the cup. They offer different levels of sweetness for this tiny cup, a delicious way to end your meal here. I am always full and happy when I come here =) My favorite dinner place in Eugene!!!

Meh, Greek food is never a first choice for me, but we met some friends here so off I went. The place seems a little dark and out-dated, but seemed relatively clean, especially considering its location near the bus station. I had the chicken curry which tasted okay, but I was not expecting to have to pull the meat from the bones which were swimming in the curry, and this made it sort of awkward to eat. The chicken and bones were so soft I got lots of little bits of bone mixed in with bites of meat, yuck. Is it wrong that I expected pieces of chicken like all other curry dishes I’ve ever had? The price for this dish was extraordinarily high. I can get a much better curry, at a much lower price at Ta Ra Rin or a few other restaurants in town. The service was actually pretty good, but I do not anticipate ever returning.

I’m not really into Greek or Indian food but still tried this place out since it’s famous. The eggplant special was okay. My friend had curry chicken and she said the curry is pretty tasty. The service is good too. Not impressive and no complaint either.

Is there a more Eugene restaurant than Poppi’s? With its weird layout, mash-up of cuisines and apparent lack of decorum, this place gives off an unmistakable hippie vibe. Also along those lines it serves better as a hangout than a restaurant. Your first challenge is figuring out how to get served. There is a big counter facing the front door, but there are also waitstaff running the floor. You can order either way apparently, but you need to be seated to see a menu. Once you see the menu, there is more confusion. Who decided to put both Greek and Indian food on offer? Do they do one better than the other? Would anyone go here because they couldn’t decide between those two? A couple of co-workers and I decided to split the difference at a lunch outing. We ordered pappadums and saganaki as appetizers, both pretty simple and safe choices, and both were pretty good. Our vegetarian got a lentil stew, while the carnivores went with gyros(yiros on the menu), also simple and safe, and we were all satisfied. It’s okay food at a pretty good price. If you want a simple lunch and happen to be downtown, this is an acceptable option.
