Absolutely love this place. Great combination of cheap drinks, a divey sports bar, and nice but not overbearing bartenders(MYFAVORITEKIND).

We went here for breakfast last Sunday during NFL game time and it took over an hour to get our food. We were STARVING so asked the only staff person available(the bartender) to check on our order. The only response given to us was«sorry, you came in at the end of a food rush.» This is unacceptable. The place really needs more staff on hand during busy times. We won’t be spending another dime at this place.

Loud, busy environment. The bar tender was not very helpful in suggesting drinks and they have no menu.

Pretty chill bar with good beers on tap and the best fries around. There’s plenty of seating and decent pool tables. It’s overall really clean and the bartenders have been really friendly and helpful. It’s my walk-to, go-to spot!

It’s been a while since I have been here. We don’t live near so I don’t think of coming in. I like the hours that they serve food, and they do have good drinks. The food I have had has been really good. Nothing you would expect from a bar. The first time I came in I ordered a steak and it came stacked with mushrooms, and sautéed onions. I asked for blue cheese on that too. The salad that comes on the side is really good leafy greens. A few other times I have been here I ordered other items that were good too, but the most other memorable that you should get is the chicken and waffles! It’s off the hook!!! No really, no joke, you will have people asking for bites, and then another, and then another, and then pretty soon they will regret what they ordered! So next time go with the steak, or I highly recommend the chicken and waffles! Very tasty!

This is a laid-back neighborhood bar with decent food, many local beers on tap(usually with 1 – 2 on nitro, and NOT mostly IPAs like 16 Tons nearby), a couple of ciders, and drink specials every night. Reminds me of Jackelope, and has a 90s kind of vibe. The music is surprisingly good, and there’s enough room to enjoy the pool tables, pinball, darts, and vidja games without feeling crowded. There are plenty of TVs to watch with a variety of sports, and they keep the volumes low, which is nice. You must try the chicken and waffles with spicy syrup, and the fish and chips is usually fresh, always made with halibut. Burgers are good, too. They seem to try for a twist on most of their dishes, even traditional pub food. From what I’ve tried, it mostly works well. Service can be slow, and it is confusing about whether to order at the bar or tables. Just play a game until it clears or stand at an empty space at the bar, smile, and wait… it’s a bar, not a bank. Oh, and people who call this a dive bar are funny, and have clearly never seen the inside of an actual dive bar, or its patrons.

Awesome atmosphere, kind staff, and good eats! Kickass sports bar. Bunch a Seahawk fans. But I can see past that.

I’ve eaten here several times and keep going back for their burger — because I can sub a veggie patty and it seems like they’re the only place in town who knows how to cook a veggie patty so that it’s not some sad soggy excuse for food… That said, the staff doesn’t always make it obvious whether you’re to order at the bar or sit at a table and wait for service. We’ve had both on different occasions. Either way you order, service is supremely mediocre and you’ll have to wait for the bartender to finish chatting with friends in order to get a beer. All props go to the chef.

Great neighborhood spot, which I will now miss having moved out of the South Hills. The margaritas are mulled fresh fruit and so tasty, the selection of beverages is great. The food is really good– they have a vast menu and the chicken and waffles with the spicy syrup is divine! If you dine outside, you will be asked for change, cigarettes and there will be the occasional ashtray digger, but, that’s South Eugene and you get used to it– the staff is really good about trying to keep an eye on it and not to have their patrons be harassed. The interior is old 90’s style, but it doesn’t take away from the taste of what they are serving. A great time all around and really good prices to boot! can’t beat it. The only low point was the first time I went the only things I had in my back pocket was my AMEX card and ID, I handed the bartender my card and ask if I could start a tab with this, she didn’t pay attention that it was AMEX and they don’t take them– luckily I had a buddy there that could cover my tab, or I would of been running home to grab another card.

Great little neighborhood dive bar. Not fancy or pretencious and the food is decent bar food. Could use some more friendly/funny bartenders…

This place reminds me of what the Highlands was when I first turned 21. It’s been a decade and a half but let me tell you, it’s great to see the spirit alive and well. Full of lots of neighborhood regulars friendly bar staff and they believe in a proper pour of whiskey. That’s right, this place makes sure you leave happy and that’s why I keep coming back. Oh yeah, also a great place to watch a ball game as the TV is visible from almost anywhere in the bar.

Since my last review I have been frequenting the Squirrel more often. I have come to find that the service has vastly improved. Overall, the staff is friendly and extremely accommodating. As always there food is tasty, and the drink selection is extensive and affordable. There has also been recent renovations to the outdoor seating area that add character and style points. This is definitely the best bar in South Eugene, and possibly the best bar in town to watch a game at.

Wanted breakfast, called ahead and the answered and said they do serve breakfast. However they open at 11 and not 10:45, the door was locked in my face and the dude in the ramstein shirt who said they open at 11. Obviously it is more important to keep me out, then to take my business. Too bad. I was sooooo hungry, we went to Todds instead, seated in 45 seconds.

I’ve been to the Squirrel for breakfast a few times and I seem to remember it being ok enough but not today! I don’t know if they have a new cook or what, but today was really bad. Chicken fried steak and eggs. The steak would have been fine except that it was topped with gravy that had the consistency of day old oatmeal and tasted like salted flour. Now, I know that gravy will thicken. That is not what I am talking about here. This was chunky and curd-like and did not spread out over that steak at all. It just sat there in a big, curdled, disgusting lump. I know how to make killer country gravy and no amount of explaining will convince me that the person who made that new what they were doing. We got there first thing when they opened though so maybe it was a few days old. Either way, don’t serve that crap. Just say you’re out of gravy. The potatoes tasted weird, like maybe they put cajun spice on them but not enough to be certain. Anyway, they were over cooked. The eggs came out of a carton and were under-cooked, and they even ruined the biscuit by cutting it in half, buttering it with clarified butter and grilling it face down so that it absorbed all the grill flavors(yuck!). And who grills a biscuit anyway? Just bake ‘em, stick ‘em on the plate, and let me decide if I want butter on it. I was really disappointed because they sponsor our club rallies and we all love the Squirrel! The waitress immediately offered me something else which I declined so she took the food off the bill and was very gracious about it, so for that they get kudos. Edit: My club mates that come here often INSIST that they always have good food. I dunno… maybe it was a bad day for them so I’ll lighten up a bit and give them another shot… someday after enough time has passed between then and that experience.

The younger bartender with black shagy hair and the beard is a jerk and acts like he is better then everyone and was very disrespectful when I asked if the place was a bar and grill or just a bar since im 20 and had Never been there before and he treated me like I was a idiot for not knowing it was just a bar and did not have a area for people under 21 chicken and fries were only so so

I have been to the flying squirrel on multiple occasions and every time I have beer, I have had to send it back the last 3 times because it tasted like shit! It’s obvious they don’t clean their lines. also the food is greasy and my friend ordered a burger that tasted like fish… Grooosssss!

Great food and decent beer selection, not bad to catch a game. But the bar tenders are disinterested if you aren’t a regular and it’s always Freezing inside.

We came here because Turtles was closed for some reason. The Flying Squirrel is a newer place,(that used to be some other diner), I think. Annie’s. Very cool — TVs with sports, good local drafts on tap, lots of games-pinball, pooltable. Place pretty empty for Saturday breakfast, but it’s a bar-no kids. Bartender made us some spicy bloody mary’s with Sriracha — maybe a little too hot, but great effort and good. We asked for SPICY ! My breakfast was a french toast type plate with eggs/bacon. French toast had no powdered sugar and she forgot to bring maple syrup. Was quick to bring out the syrup. No biggie(just incomplete). My friend ordered a ‘dip’ sandwich, with no Au Jus. She was happy to bring that out as well. Quality was good, it seemed though the bartender wasn’t quite with it… but she was nice and gracious. I saw her changing channel for a customer, she even brought the cook out to do it. I thought that was very cool-accommodating of them. I saw the tap line up and ordered a beer, too. She wasn’t accurate with the beer selection. I’d return and recommend. I had a good vibe and it’s a great option on this stretch(if you can find it). Outside sign needs help. Not very catchy.

Oh a big improvement over what’s been at this location in the past! And they took away the purple interior and fake plants! I assume their signage will improve soon — it’s easy to miss and not apparent what it is from the black/white banner. I haven’t seen any advertising either. We went on a Friday evening for a beer and dinner. The menu seemed a notch above regular old sports bar fare, but fairly priced. We got the po boy sandwich, reuben, waffle fries, and onion rings. Sandwiches were okay, but… GETTHEONIONRINGSANDWAFFLEFRIES! They were excellent– best I’ve had in a long time. I would have been happy with just those. Service was a little strange — one bartender manning the tables and bar in the whole place, but perhaps they’re waiting to hire after more people hear about this place. Food came out in reasonable time, but we were the only ones eating. Love that it has pool tables and darts! Lots of large TVs for Timbers and sports watching. Why the cigarette machine? Overall, a very good addition the to neighborhood and looking forward to lots of people finding out about this place.
