I don’t give a lot of one stars as you can see, and I also don’t think I’ve ever faced such a problem as I did at my visit to Über Burger. The man that took my order was SUPER nice, and helpful as well which made it harder to keep eating my burger which was pretty revolting. It was 85% sloppy mess on top of some meat which was less cooked than I asked for. I felt like I owed it to the man to eat it because he was so nice, and the restaurant is so small that it’s easy to feel that you’re being observed in it. Aside from being a sloppy mess, it was one of those thick flavors that you can’t breathe when you’re eating because it’s potent and gagging. I don’t think until that day I’ve ever not been able to finish a burger. I did order a shake with my meal which was pretty good, but I need to rate the place low because of the food experience. That’s the entire reason to stop in, and my boyfriend to this day jokes that we should eat there when we’re in the area and hungry. Eek! Methings not.

Oh it was just blah! The entire experience. Walking here with my friend, we passed so many cute little places and then we got here and I was just utterly disappointed! The food is nothing special. I ordered a chicken panini and my friend had the buffalo burger. The panini was juicy and cheesy, in an artery clogging way. The buffalo burger, from what my friend said, was just there. Fries were average. Neither one of us will be rushing back.

Almost $ 8 for only a single cuban burger, which was the size of a whopper? No wonder why this place was empty at lunch time. As for the menu, it was of a decent size, but nothing stood out as looking really unique or tempting. As for the burger itself, I went with the cuban burger, because I like cubanos. However, other than ham, it didn’t remind me of a cubano at all. The patty was over cooked, but the toppings were okay. I should have just walked a few hundred feet and gotten the pizza lunch special at Whole Foods — 2 slices for $ 5.

This place hits the spot for something to fill my appetite with tasty food. I had the lamb burger. I’ve previously had a lamb burger that I made, but they used Guerre cheese which is what I think makes this burger so special. The medium sized patty sits on a very soft and delectable sesame seed bun, accompanied with your usual burger fixings. As most other people said, the price for this burger(and others) seems a bit steep considering that it doesn’t even come with fries. You’re paying at least 8 bucks for that burger. I did see that they had some other options for good burgers: Mexican burger, Cuban burger, etc. Looks like they also have a prosciutto panini which I would like to try soon. The interior is just consists of just a few small tables and chairs with minimal decoration.

I am basing my review solely on zie lamb burger that I had, I thought it was very good. But nearly $ 8 for a regular sized good lamb burger without anything else was definitely overpriced. They had a lot of variations on their menu that looked delicious, which I would love to try next time given the lack of food choices in Evanston.

Mediocre. This place seems to want to try, but doesn’t really. Lame. Stale bun. Carelessly assembled burger. You can do better.

I heard about this place ages ago but haven’t had the chance to eat there until yesterday. I was in downtown Evanston for some business and drove by Über Burger. Since I was able to snag a parking place right across the street, I stopped and had lunch. I had the Mexican Burger, which is one of the«specials» on the menu. It was excellent, although at $ 6.99 not exactly a bargain. Given the fast food look of this joint, I expected prices to be a little lower. Despite the high price(or maybe because of it), I have to say«Viva Mexico,» because that was one damn good burger. Good sesame seed bun, fresh lettuce and tomato, and tasty condiments. Maybe could of used a little bigger patty, but overall, I’d give my burger a 6.5 on the 10 point burger-o-meter. The place is counter service and the help seemed nice and polite. Next time, I’ll try the fries and a shake. Parking isn’t easy, so figure on having to go around the block and pay at the pretty cheap Evanston meters(haven’t they sold their meters off to some German corporation yet, so that their citizens can be bled dry like Chicago did?!?).

There is nothing neu unter die sonne, right? This place has been reopened for a while now, but I can’t tell what the difference is, other than the lack of a certain verve that it used to have. Service is blank or even cold. As far as I can tell the food is about the same, though. The burger won’t blow you away, but for south of four bucks it’s as good as other burgers for which you’ll pay five or six at any of the current crop of so-called specialists that are all the rage these days. The turkey burger is pretty good, too – tasty(if a little salty) and surprisingly moist. Even their polish sausage is pretty damn good. The fries, too. The above-average food is even more remarkable given how unimpressive is the rest of the experience. Still, I’d much rather eat here than at the godless Five Guys down the street.

4 stars just for offering buffalo and lamb burgers! Quick service, clean place, tasty food, AND free fries for northwestern students seals the deal! Less salt on the fries next time please.

We started coming here for burgers, but what brings us back are the milk shakes, onion rings, fries, and fried pickles! I come from TX where fried pickles are a must on many menus, so I was surprised to find that the fried pickles at über burger were some of the best I’ve ever had. I really like their sauces, too– horseradish ketchup, garlic aioli, and chipolle mayo are all good with their fried side items. Their veggie patty is also much better than what you get at most burger places, too. I rate über burger higher than five guys, personally. Its my favorite burger place in Evanston.

A three-star average seems just about right. I loved that this place was immaculately clean, and there were a good amount of places to sit. The food itself was also pretty good. I had a cheeseburger(with everything except mustard) and an order of fries. The burger was thin, but also quite tasty. The order of fries also tasted good, but it was a bit on the small side. I felt like I could have put down another burger without a problem, and still not be full. But I guess maybe that’s a good thing, since it was probably less calories than a normal fast food meal. There were a few things that I didn’t like though. Mainly I was annoyed that we ordered at the front, but didn’t pay at that time. So what that means is that you could end up waiting in line to place your order, then you go eat your food, and then you have to wait in line again in order to actually pay. Kind of annoying. Also, I didn’t like the fact that they used styrofoam cups. I know, many fast food places do this. Still, I wish they went with another material, or even better, had something that was recyclable. But I guess I’m living in a dream world with that request. The only other gripe I had is that it was dead silent in there. They didn’t have any TV or music at all. So if there are not many people there, your conversation may be overheard by everyone. I’d go back — I still liked their burgers more than 5 Guys or Edzo’s, and they are cheaper too.

In short: «Über Burger»? More like Unter Burger. Well, Edzo’s — with their eccentric and capricious schedule — was closed, and me with a wicked craving for a good burger, I decided to take a chance on Neu Über Burger. I got the Double Hamburger — 2 ¼-lb. patties. What I ended up receiving was a disappointing, subpar hamburger experience. First of all, the patties were of an institutional quality, rivaling those I might find in a college or hospital cafeteria. The bun — not as fresh as it looked — could not stand up to the toppings and the patties and fell apart as I was trying to eat it. I had to resort to a(nonrecyclable) plastic fork and knife. The only possible redeeming aspects were the decent, fresh fries, sprinkled with coarse kosher salt; and the free soda refill, although I felt like I was putting upon the guy behind the counter for asking. On offer at NUB were a couple kinds of lamb burgers. I imagine that they might be good, but I despise the taste of lamb. As for value, I feel like I overpaid for such a poor quality burger.($ 8.24 for my burger, fries and drink.) Edzo’s, when they deign to be open, is less expensive and far superior. When Edzo’s is closed, one would do well to skip this place and opt for going a little further afield, to Cross-Rhodes on Chicago, Bill’s Drive-in on Asbury near Howard, or even down to the Five Guys on Sheridan near the Loyola campus.

Service was fine when I went here. The fries were really good. But this place is not Über Fry… Sadly. I had the Buffalo Burger. When I think of a nice Buffalo Burger, I think, «Mmm… Ground beef’s lean twin!» But this thing was a swampy mess of grease. Granted, it’s a burger, it’s allowed to be greasy. But it soaked through the bun. And then it fell apart. There was some herb mixed into the patty which seems like a pleasant idea but the flavor completely overpowered the burger(even the taste of the bleu cheese!). Sort of disappointing.

Fried pickles: Horrifyingly greasy, or horrifyingly DELICIOUS? I feel bad this place is getting such craptastic reviews. The staff isn’t the warmest, but when I went this weekend, they gave me free fries even though I didn’t have my student ID on me(yes, Wildcards always get you a free side of fries!) and brought out iced water for our entire group even though we didn’t ask for it. My cheeseburger was good and the other menu options look fairly creative. Stay away from the gyro– it’s sizable, but the meat was dry and definitely didn’t look like it came off a spit. Actually, maybe don’t get too adventurous. Tilapia at a burger joint? No. No. The hours are, as before, irregular and confusing. Still, I hope«Nue» Über Burger can still compete with Edzo’s Burger Shop opening up a block away. Sidenote: The old Über Burger(which I didn’t like that much) was owned by the same guy who owned La Petite Amelia next door and Omaggio around the corner. One day he just skipped town(leaving a bunch of people jobless)… Hence, Über Burger is now Nue Über Burger and Amelia/Omaggio are sad and abandoned.

Apparently things have changed under the new management. The only thing I noticed last time I went was a wider variety of options. They are really trying to expand the definition of what a burger can be – gyro burger, falafel burger, etc. This place has, by far, the best Turkey Burger I have ever had, and I hope that still is true even after the change in ownership. Uberburger would definitely be my top burger pick for the city of Evanston. Also: Fried Pickles.

The new Über Burger breaks my heart. When it first opened, it was the best place to get burgers. What could be better than a turkey burger with pepper jack cheese, chipotle ketchup, and a side of fried pickles(or fries if the thought of fried pickles makes you unhappy)? And the price was right. It was a fulfilling, delicious and inexpensive meal. Unfortunately, this place is under new ownership and management, and quite frankly, it’s no longer worth it. My friends and I tried it as soon as it «re-opened» and it’s just not the same. It’s not TERRIBLE, but it’s not really good either.

I was really disappointed in this place. I went expecting an «über burger», but instead received a «piddly burger». The burger patties were very thin, similar to those served at fast food chains like Wendys and Burger King. The sauces were fancy, but that’s about it. Sorry, but there was nothing«über» about my experience here.

AHH!!! It’s UBERLICIOUS! Because Hot Doug’s was closed today, the BF and I decided to head up to Evanston and fix up my craving for fried pickles — the food of my youth in the Ozarks. So we spent an hour on transit getting up there, to be absolutely blown away. It was the best burger I’ve ever had — nor that he’s ever had — but it was pretty damn delicious. The BF got the Über burger — three patties of beef — and added cheddar(not the sliced kind, but the gooey delicious kind) and bacon. He opted for the mustard aiola for his special sauce. I got the big burger — one beef patty — with the chipotle ketchup. We got a basket of fries and a basket of fried pickles. The moment the goods came, I asked whether they make their fried pickles in house(because I can get that frozen shit anywhere). And boy oh boy … he described the homemade process, and I verified that they were, in fact, AUTHENTICLY made fried pickles. And the moment the crispy, tangyness of the pickle dipped in ranch dressing hit my mouth, I was transported to Arkansas to the AQ Chicken House. The BF downed his burger in record time and says he’d give his burger an 8 out of 10. Coming from a burger connoisseur, that’s big doins. He says the patties could have been seasoned more, but the sauce made up for it. The great thing about Über Burger(other than the fried freakin’ pickles!) is the fact that they have several sauce options, including chipotle ketchup and a few different kinds of mayo. The other plus is that among the chili and the burgers there are veggie options, not to mention that there’s a turkey burger option. If you’re not down for a burger of sorts, grab a grilled cheese. The fries aren’t that great, truth be told. They’re a little soggy and lacked the crispness that the pickles had. Next time we’ll give the onion rings a go. The guy working the front was super nice. Not only did he take the time to explain the pickle frying to me, but he was super friendly, attentive, and managed to handle several full tables at once. It is a little small, and I can’t imagine how busy it’ll get once school starts back up. Cheers to Über Burger for managing to create something unique from what could have just been a bland, everyday burger joint!
