I am a huge fan of their acai bowls. I highly recommend Greenhouse Effect! Sometimes they go a little too heavy on the honey for my taste, but you can easily ask them to make adjustments, which is always a plus. Price is a little on the steep side, but I suppose that’s usually the case for smoothie places.

I was hesitant to come here for awhile after reading the negative reviews on their customer service. But there was nothing to afraid of. When I walked in I was immediately greeted warmly by the lady in the front. I ordered the little miss sunshine acai bowl ($ 8.30). I only had to wait about 5 minutes to get it. But I understand why it takes awhile. Acai bowls are a piece of art. She made it so beautifully that I couldn’t help taking a picture of it. The taste was even better! It came with bananas, strawberries, blueberries, granola, and coconut shavings. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. It’s really big too so you can share it with two other people. I had a great experience and the workers were great and friendly!

I come to peeled for their acai bowls exclusively. Not a huge fan of the smoothies/​juices. It takes them 10 minutes to prepare the acai bowls but it is soooo worth it! You can try so many different toppings you’ve never tasted before all in this one bowl (bee pollen, hemp hearts, goji berries). You can also call ahead and pick it up.
The space is very clean and with free wifi so you can definitely come with your friends and chill for a while. Not a very place conducive for working because the loud blending noises. Their is wildcat discount here and all the staff are super hip. I wish the price was a bit cheaper but can’t complain.

I was not impressed with Peeled. Almost $ 10 for an acai bowl? I understand that acai is expensive everywhere, but this one didn’t even taste that great– although it did look good.
I also went around 1:30 pm when the place was empty and I’m not kidding it took more than 15 minutes to get my bowl. Seriously? The cashier was rude– very unfriendly and was rushing me the entire time. The worker who made my bowl was clearly taking her sweet time. I was excited once I got it because it looked good, but it got old after a few bites. Ended up just dumping it out.
Not worth the money and time. Will not be back.

I generally really enjoy the acai bowls (Greenhouse Effect and Little Miss Sunshine) here, but I recently had a negative experience with one of the cashiers that left a sour taste in my mouth. As she was swiping my card, she said, «Just so you know, it’ll be about 30 minutes for your bowl.» Although this is fine, it would’ve been polite to inform me of that before swiping my card to give me the opportunity to change my mind. After swiping my card, she noticed that I was a Northwestern student and said, «Oh, sorry I already swiped your card, but you would’ve gotten a student discount.» Strike number two.
Perhaps I’m simply hangry (hunger induced anger), but little things like this really make or break a place for me.

Ok. I like the principle of this place and I do find their smoothies to be a healthier option to those at say Jamba Juice. which if you look carefully at the sugar content. are loaded with sugar. My husband and I have tried the acai bowls and you just feel good eating one. (notice I say you feel good not full)
To piggy back on what everyone else seems to be complaining about yes. the wait times can be lengthy and some workers work faster than others. I understand it’s a process and everything is done fresh so I don’t necessarily mind the wait but there is one or two servers that just look like they are going through the motions and have no interest in providing good customer service.
Additionally, there is an inconsistency in the way smoothies are made.
Sometimes they are really watery other times they are super thick. To their credit probably not their fault… they just need to be trained better…
They also get agave happy and overdo it. which pretty much defeats the purpose of drinking one of those if you get a sugar shock which for $ 7 a smoothie I find unacceptable.
I have brought it to their attention yet keeps happening. which is why I have decided to learn how to make them at home myself.

Addicting! And so good! I love their Acai bowls. They’re a meal in themselves. Great for the hot summer days and packed with good stuff.

The smoothies here are generally pretty good, though sometimes inconsistent. I really enjoy the acai bowls, though– the Little Miss Sunshine bowl is excellent, and all the bowls are a good size and satisfying enough to be a filling meal. However, the customer service here is a real bummer. The service is incredibly slow — it can take around 40 minutes to get an acai bowl, even if there are several employees working, which seems ridiculous to me. The customer service isn’t very friendly, either — when I inquired about why it took so long, I was met with a rude, dismissive response. Also, they aren’t certified organic, which kind of defeats the purpose of their whole new age-​y health food vibe. Just go to Whole Foods; it’s faster, cheaper, and organic.

Cherry Moon!!! Order it!!! Delish and filling. My friend and I felt so refreshed and energized after our juice/​smoothie. I got the Cherry Moon which was, ah, so tasty. It was so good that it made me feel guilty! But then I remembered that it was actually healthy! I want to try to make this smoothie at home.

This is the best place in Evanston to detox after a great workout or run. The I Love Life Acai bowl is very refreshing and in perfect combination with the granola, bananas, and strawberries. Greenhouse Effect is also great for a hot day refresher! Their juices are freshly squeezed and they make kale delicious to drink
One minor thing is that their service is really slow and it takes awhile for orders to get filled. At least their sitting area is comfortable!

I’m addicted to the smoothies and yummy acai bowls here. They’re fruity and prepared fresh, and a little on the pricey side, but they fill you up like a meal, so I consider the money well spent.
I’ve generally found the servers to be nice and upbeat. However, I have to agree with everyone else here. It takes a longggg time to get your order, so I would definitely make sure you plan out a solid 30 minute chunk of wait time if you decide to go.

I love the juices and smoothies here. Since moving from California a few years ago, I’ve been looking for this kind of thing and was so excited when Peeled opened.
HOWEVER the service is piss poor. If you have 40 mins to waste standing around watching the workers chop fruits and veggies like they’re on NyQuil, sure go ahead. But if you’re a person on the go, don’t bother.
The employees are nice enough, but don’t count on them paying attention to you until you’ve been standing around for 15 minutes. I’m incredibly disappointed.

I bought a groupon for a 3-​day juice cleanse and thought the drinks were pretty good. I am currently done with day 2.
Day 1 of juice cleanse: OMG!!! I LOVE THIS! I CAN DO THIS FOREVER!
Day2 of juice cleanse: OMG! I want a juicy burger, steak, and fried chicken.
Day 3: pretty sure I will fail.
The juice cleanse is fairly easy to do if u put your mind to it and exercise will power (of which I have none… hence my prediction of failure on day 3). I think it’s a good way to kick start healthier eating. People have said that its decreased their appetite for sweets and junk food and my cravings for junk food have subsided a little as well. I do feel lighter and «healthier» so far but reading the nutritional contents of the drinks made me nervous. According to my very rough calculations, it’s ~158 grams of sugar getting consumer PER DAY! Yikes!
Service: like others have mentioned I think the service could be improved. I work retail so I know how incredibly unreasonable and frustrating people can be, but they could fake their kindness a little more and act a little less annoyed that I ordered something haha.
Drinks: my favorite drink was the cashew dream. So good! I liked the green lantern and maroon five as well. The lemonade was a little hard to swallow because it had quite a kick to it. All the drinks were drinkable only when it was super cold. I had a drink left out during work and it was definitely more difficult to swallow. Bleh.
I do recommend drinking the Maroon five with a straw bc it’s pretty much beet juice and it will stain your lips slightly. As others have mentioned, hunger isn’t really an issue bc once you’re done with 1 drink and peeing every 10 minutes, you’re drinking another one.
For groupon users: there is an $ 8.50 charge for tax along with groupon (~$ 97)
I’m not sure if I would do the cleanse again but I definitely recommend the juices as a meal replacement. I would honestly maybe even share with a friend or do the cleanse together by diluting the drinks. it definitely won’t taste as good and probably not getting the proper nutrition from the juices but the sugar! Also, be prepared to pee every 10 minutes or so.

My experience at peeled was great. I like many other people came in because of the groupon 3 day cleanse offer. After reading so many reviews about the horrible taste of the drinks I thought I should get a taste test and that’s what I did. The customer service was awesome, I came in and told the lady (don’t remember her name) that I was interested in the 3 day cleanse but was worried about the taste of Maroon 5 and Green Lantern. She happily poured me a sample of each drink and I enjoyed both enough to buy the deal. I picked up the juices a few days later. Make sure to call your order in ahead! They were kind enough to have my order ready within 3 days, not two weeks as the groupon advertised.
Review of cleanse:
Day 1: Easy. I enjoyed each juice… YES even the Maroon 5 and Green Lantern. I wasn’t hungry at all because as soon as I started feeling hungry it was time for another juice.
Day 2: I didn’t feel different mentally or physically like many people say. I didn’t have any side effects, no caffeine withdrawals (coming from a daily coffee drinker). After the Haute Lemonade I had to pinch my nose to drink the next three drinks. Drinking the same juice 2x a day was starting to get old really quick. It’s true what everyone says, Cashew Milk is a life saver!!!
Day 3: Woke up and drank the Green Lantern without plugging my nose, drinking the haute lemonade was never a problem for me, I thoroughly enjoyed every sip of it. The next 3 drinks I had to pinch my nose and drink them quick.
Pro’s:
The cleanse was not difficult to stick to.
Cheaper than most cleanses
Great customer service.
You are allowed to snack on raw almonds and cashews.
Con:
Frequenting the bathroom what seemed to be every 20 minutes.
Repeating drinks 2x daily sucks.

I cannot understand how the woman at the counter still works there, she clearly hates it. I have been here twice, and the same woman was behind the counter and acting with the same extreme curtness and rudeness. For example, instead of saying «Hi» when you approach the counter, she just glares at you hatefully.
I want to ask «What’s wrong?» But whatever is wrong probably needs to be dealt with in therapy, not taken out on customers, which is unfair.
While I will not be going back while she’s still there (they must be losing money because of her), I still give this place 2 stars because the product is good.

I honestly come to Peeled just for their popsicles. Sometimes I’ll splurge on a smoothie or a juice. Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to try their «Please, No Autographs!»
Every popsicle I’ve had here tastes exactly like the real fruit itself. The mango popsicle had small chunks of mango in it which I loved. As for their smoothies, I like that they incorporate «exotic» ingredients to keep it far from boring.
I personally never had a problem with their service, so this review is mainly just for the popsicles and drinks.

This review is for the three day GROUPON Juice Cleanse.
I saw the offer on Group for 97 (plus 8.50 tax) and decided to go for it.
Prior to the actual cleanse, I looked on Unilocal for descriptions and other reviews– which definitely helped. My sister also signed up for a cleanse so we could reap the benefits of it, together.
Ordering: ordering was simple– I called the Evanston location and informed them of my Groupon offer. I was told my order would come in 48 hours later and that they would call me.
That Tuesday, Jamila (spelling) called back and told me that my juices would be ready for pick up! I picked up 3 bags with 6 juices each (18) and was ready to begin. The week prior, I was eating low carb/​no carb options so going into it wasn’t very difficult.
Service: The employees at Peeled are so informative and friendly! Winter (who works at the Evanston location) and Jamila were both very open to answering my questions and making recommendations on actual smoothies. I will definitely return for the Smoothies.
Juices:
Green Lantern: the Green Juice tastes like celery/​ginger soup with a hint of sweetness. I’m not a big fan of celery but after the second day– it was a lot easier to drink.
Maroon 5: I am a huge fan of Borscht. This had a similar taste to Borscht but it did turn my pee pink (TMI) and was more gingery and kind of sweet. I would’ve preferred it without the ginger or the sweet. My sister actually liked this one cold.
Haute Lemonade– Sister said it was horrible!
Cashew Milk: It has a strange taste but it’s yummy. Not quite as delicious as a milkshake (or rich) but has a hint of sweetness.
Verdict:
I wasn’t hungry and I’m currently on Day 3 of the Cleanse. To be honest– I did eat a little bit of solid food (small portion of protein) during the day. Also, on the Day 2– I went and purchased an actual Smoothie from Peeled for dinner.
Will I do this cleanse again? Probably not. I am sure the Juices are healthy and help detoxify my system– but I’ll put my 100.00 on something else! However– I do recommend to try a cleanse if you never have before!

Picked-​up my 3 day cleanse on Saturday afternoon. Sounds like some customers have had issues with their staff but they couldn’t have been nicer to me. One of the girls helped explain the cleanse to me which was very nice. I have completed a few cleanses and know the jist but it was nice to get a little refresher.
My mom came with me for the ride and while the cleanse was being explained to be the other worker gave her a sample of one of their smoothies which was very sweet. If I am in the area I will for sure stop by again for some drinks.
Right now I am just finishing up day 2 of the cleanse and I must say I feel really good, not hungry at all. Drink order: 1^st green lantern, 2^nd haute lemonade, 3^rd maroon five, 4^th green lantern, 5^th maroon five, 6^th cashew dream. All the drinks are really good if you are used to juice cleansing. By far my favs are haute lemonade and cashew dream. After a long day of cleansing cashew dream for sure prepared me for a nice deep sleep. I will update my review once my cleanse is complete :)

This is a review for the juice cleanse, so for those of you who are looking to see whether you want to invest the money to try it out, here it is:
I’ve always wanted to try the cleanse but the high price tag and the thought of giving up solid foods for three days were deterring. But when I saw the Groupon for 50% off (discounted price of $ 97), I figured I might as well try.
In terms of logistics, it was super easy to arrange the pick-​up. 1. I bought the Groupon. 2. I called the number given. 3. I was able to pick it up the NEXT DAY (Groupon asks that you give up to 2 weeks, so guess I was lucky). 4. I go in on a Friday and then have all the juices bagged and ready to go. NOTE: You DO have to pay an additional sum of money for tax when you pick up your juices, so make sure you bring cash/​credit card/​whatever.
You pretty much have 6 juices a day, 4 unique varieties:
1. Green Lantern: tastes quite salad-​y, but the kick of the lemon makes it easy to go down. Definitely not delicious, but at least I could drink it without holding my nose.
2. Haute Lemonade: lemonade with cayenne pepper. You can really feel the kick for this one! It was surprisingly spicy, but it was also my all-​time favorite.
3. Maroon 5: If I were Adam Levine, I would sue Peeled for naming this horrible drink after my band… Beets and carrots = deep magenta, absolutely nasty concoction. I had to hold my breath and down a cup of water to get past this one.
4 – 5. Repeat Green Lantern and Maroon 5.
6. Cashew milk: Strange texture and flavors, but after having the Maroon 5 twice in one day, it was heavenly.
You’re probably wondering: 1. How did you feel? 2. Were you hungry?
1. First day was the worst for me. I actually only got through 4 out of the 6 drinks… it was too much liquid for my body to handle and the nastiness that was Maroon 5 made me feel sick. I also took a ridiculously long nap on day 1 and was exhausted. Days after that felt fine and it was a lot easier to get through the juices.
2. Surprisingly, no. You are pretty much drinking a minimum of 16 cups of liquid a day, so I was never hungry.
Would I do this again? Probably not. I lost a total of 5.5 pounds (almost all water weight), so this is not a way to actually lose real weight. Did I feel absolutely amazing and fabulous after? Meh. I would say I felt «lighter» but that’s probably because I had no food in my system. Also, it’s too expensive to justify the results. Did it «jumpstart» healthy eating habits? I was really portion/​food-​conscious for a couple days after, but now I’m eating normally again, so for me, not really.
What I would do differently IF I went through it again: Wean myself off processed foods a few days before. I think the biggest reason why I struggled so much day 1 was because I literally dived headfirst into the cleanse (I mean, I finished an entire box of Oreos the night before).
All in all, a worthwhile experience, but I don’t think I would ever go back and do it again.
