This review is posthumous. I just tried to order from Pita Pete’s, but found the number disconnected and online ordering unavailable. A call to the restaurant next door confirmed it has closed. Sad.

Don’t go here on Mondays. I really won’t eat here again without seeing who is working. Apparently they have their z team working on Monday as the guy was mildly retarded. He completely butchered opening up the pita, the falafel was cold, and I told him to put sauce on it and went to pay only to find that my pita was dry when I got home. Seriously Pete, where are the normal workers? wtf

TI sings about having«whatever you like,» and it’s true here, except there’s really good soda instead of «Patron, no ice» to drink. Pita Pete’s is a great little place that gives you tons of variety. You can make it as unhealthy or healthy as you want. There’s a variety of vegetables, cheeses, and even some fruit that you can get. You can get as many toppings as you want for the same price, which is great. I like the chicken gyros meat. People have labeled it «mystery meat» and it sometimes looks a bit«dodgy,» as the Brits like to say, but I’m hooked on it, sorry to say. It tastes much better. They grill the vegetables for you if you ask, which is nice. I also love love love the spicy honey mustard dressing/sauce because it’s really spicy, something I like, but tangy at the same time. One thing… no matter what season I go, the tomatoes suck. They’re mealy and disgusting. As someone who likes her tomatoes, I was pretty disappointed. And the pitas are always realllly thin. What’s the point of even having one?(I don’t anymore… the romaine bed is better.) Enjoy Pita Pete’s! Don’t expect authenticity or good tomatoes, but other than that, it’s good.

My GF and I wondered in on a cold snowy night hungry and ready to chow down. We were the only guests and the employees were nice and helpful, but unfortunately that’s where the pleasure ended. I noticed the falafel was pre-fried and my falafel loving GF was instantly disappointed. She ordered a chicken wrap with Greek elements on it and I got the steak fajita wrap. While all the fresh options are a nice touch, the frozen chicken breast they threw on the grill surprised me. It tasted exactly like that frozen Tyson’s strips for salads, awful, she picked the chicken out and finished off her now veggie wrap. The fajita wrap was OK, but it tasted like something I could throw together in my kitchen in 5 minutes. We should have eaten at subway next door which is basically the same thing in a pita wrap. Update — I tried this place again and had better results. After explaining my last flustrating visit to the dude behind the counter I was informed that the premade wrap list on the wall should only be used as a guideline. He suggested I create my own wrap, which I should have figured out myself the first time instead of being a lazy bastard. My resulting wrap was pretty good, fresh, filling, and reasonably priced. I’ll upgrade this to a 3 and give it yet another shot since it’s next to my gym.

I was blown away by this place. I expected what the name says, pita, but instead came away with a Chipotle-like concoction. I’m not a fan of Chipotle but have become a huge fan of Pita Pete’s. I ordered the Mediterranean and would highly recommend it. Falafel, carrots, greens, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, cukes, etc etc etc. Wow! The thing was huge and had I eaten half would have been healthy but instead I scarfed almost the entire thing which I think no longer lives up to the healthy label. Good for a quick bite or to eat in the security line at O’Hare.

I came here for lunch with a friend, as we were in the area and looking for a quick bite. As their name suggests, they sell pita sandwiches: you pick your meat and your fixings and they make it in front of you. Their pita, though, is more like tortilla, and the sandwiches look more like wraps or burritos than anything else. I got the chicken gyros. The meat was good, but my complaint it wasn’t mixed at all with the veggies: my wrap, on one side, has the gilled chicken, and on the other the pile of veggies that I picked, and in another corner the sauce… it probably would have been tastier if they’d made an effort to mix things up. But it was okay nonetheless(not extraordinary): for about $ 7 I guess you can’t complain too much.

It’s like a pita Subway! And it’s delicious. And fresh. And healthy! Their fresh brewed iced tea is good, and you get a free refill. They have all sorts of refreshing flavors, like blackberry or red currant. I drink the first cup with my pita, and take the free refill out the door with me. :) In the colder months, their soup is delicious too. I think I remember trying a mushroom brie soup and it was GOOD. Minus one star because I feel like it’s a bit overpriced. Last time I was here I ordered off the kid’s menu to save money… I’m on a budget!

Good sandwiches, and healthy compared to Potbelly’s which is right next door.

First off the pita really isn’t the usual pita bread, it’s more like a big tortilla made into a pocket shape. They can stuff this with all kinds of good veggies, you tell them as they go down the line– like at Subways. I really like that they have feta cheese as one of the choices(cheese lover here). Tried the asparagus soup, it was really good(and I’m not usually into soup). It was tasty and had that homemade comfort feeling. They had some other«homemade» but healthy type stuff there as well. I give the place only 3 stars because even though it was filling, pretty healthy and tasted great, both the gyros & and the chicken gyros meat left a lot to be desired. It was like some really low quality previously frozen sliced thin mystery meat something or other. On the other hand, the turkey was like a real slice of turkey, and I saw a guy in line who ordered a steak pita and his looked like real meat. Next time I’m trying a steak one, at least, over all, this place is good enough for there to be a «next time, just without the fake gyros.

pita pete’s is cheap, and you can fill up on lots of antioxidants. Nowhere else can I add about 23 ingredients to my pita while incurring the same cost. their tuna is delicious, especially with the following: romaine spinach carrots tomatoes onions green peppers pickles cucumbers chickpeas black beans corn xmustard okay maybe not 23, but 12 ingredients. i’ve actually only tried their tuna, so i can’t comment on any other pita. their green iced tea and peach iced tea are delicious too, and they give free refills!

This place makes me think Mediterranean Chipotle with a lot more options and lack of national-corporate-chain-guilt. Pomegranate, just north a block, is cheaper(and their falafel is better), but Pita Pete’s is a nice treat for the very large selection of fillings. Maybe it’s because I went for an early Sunday lunch, but when I was there the veggies looked fresh. And it was tasty. Just keep most of the pita wrapped in its foil and it won’t fall apart.

I love Pitas and healthy food always catches my attention so I had to stop by and check it out — it’s in a prime location and food is mediocre at best. First of all, it doesn’t even look like a pita anymore — it looks like a pita burrito. You pick out what you want in here — kinda like Subway and Chipotle — they have plenty of ingredients, the vegetables look semi-fresh but I would stay away from some of the lettuce. Prices are decent — for what you’re getting, it’s a little on the pricey end for the quality — quantity is there depending on what you fill up their pita. And service left to be desired elsewhere. The girl working there looked impatient with me since I was trying to figure out what I wanted and since I had to pick out what I wanted in my pita and oh, she totally overdid my sauce when I told her«light on the fat free dressing» — I was tempted to have her redo the whole thing, but it was a nice day outside and I let it go. Later, eating my pita — the whole thing fell apart and I found myself picking out the insides with a fork.

I really like me some pitas. I like this place because the staff is pretty friendly, and they have an abundance of fresh and healthy ingredients. I would go in here maybe once a week on account that it was right across the street from my job and it was inexpensive. They had plenty of seating and so many options for pitas. I usually ordered the falafel pita with veggies and such with honey mustard – it was pretty tasty. This beats out other sandwichy places for me because you get to see your order being cooked/prepared. I enjoy the option of changing it up rather than having to pick from some predecided menu item.

I disagree with most of you guys. This is a pretty good spot with a great location. The food is above average and I feel that the selection beats it’s neighbor’s Potbelly and Subway. The ingredients are fresh and plentiful. The owner and his staff are really nice. Lunch time is rush hour time, so be prepared to wait in line. The fact that they cook frozen food is a negative, but at least it is coming out of something sealed and packaged. God knows where the Subway meat has been before it makes it into the sandwich.

The highlights here are the vegetables, so make sure you pile on a bunch. Bonus points for the availability of feta cheese. The owner(Pete?) is usually friendly. Their cookies are nothing special, so go next door and grab one from Potbelly after finishing your pita. Don’t go expecting authentic Mediterranean cuisine, because all you’ll get is a good, healthy pita. The chicken and falafel are tasty. Grab the window cubby seat for a good lunchtime view. Bottom line: I like my pitas, especially from Pete.

There’s nothing really special about the place. I ordered a gyro and paid a little over $ 6 for it. Considering the size of the gyro, it was a complete rip off. I can normally get a gyro with the same amount of pita, toppings, and gyro meat under $ 5 and it would include fries and a small Greek salad. Quality-wise the gyro tasted okay; and the serving size was average. Normally, I’d give this place a 3 star rating since it’s average, but I’m giving it a 2 star rating because of the bad price. FYI: they do give more toppings that pita, which is nice, but their toppings didn’t look very fresh to me.

This is a cross between Pita Inn and Subway where you pick your own ingredients to assemble a pita sandwich. Cool concept, but unfortunately Pita Pete’s implements it horribly. For starters, with the exception of the hummus they don’t cook any of their own food. The falafels, pitas, and gyros are all prepackaged/frozen and taste gross. There’s very few actual mediterranian ingredients offered here. Most of the toppings are the typical Subway stuff so what you end up with a lousy Subway sandwich inside a pita with a dash of tzatziki sauce or a few feta crumbs to «mediterranianize» it. For a real sandwich, skip this place and go next door to Potbelly’s instead.
