This place is far from«Liquidators» status. Don’t think you’ll get any kind of deal, either! No matter what you pick up, expect a «hundred and a quarter, hundred and a half» as a response for most things and when you say you don’t think so, he’ll tell you«hold on» and go look it up on eBay and knock of $ 5. You’ll have better luck at Legacy in San Anselmo or Hodgepodge in San Rafael or Novato. My 2cents.

I bought a gift for a relative at the store and had a chat with the owner, who told me that my choice had a chip in it. I told him I still wanted the antique bottle as it was the only one, of that type, with the date on it. The next day I returned with my relative as he was interested in looking at other items. He noticed a different antique bottle and asked owner if he could exchange it for original gift as price was same. The owner said he needed to ‘inspect’ the gift item first and, when he did, exclaimed that it had a chip and was not exchangable. He acted as if we were trying to pull one over on him, which is absurd and insulting. Later, recalling the numerous paranoid post it notes scattered about, warning patrons about thievery, etc, we had to shrug it off and deduce that he is a paranoid and suspicious person. Really sad. Feel sorry for him. Avoid if you think you will buy anything you want to return, or if you are spending any real money, etc. Most items overpriced though ok supply of interesting stuff like old magazines. Most of all we are sorry there is a merchant in Fairfax who acts so badly.

Belly Up Liquidators is the epitome of dark, cluttered, overflowing«junk»(and I use that word in the most loving of ways) shop. It’s dimly lit, it smells dusty and damp like a library’s basement and it’s overflowing(literally, items are piled up everywhere on top of each other and the«aisles» in the store are almost non-existent) with eclectic sundries, odds, ends, old black and white photographs, art work, glass ware, jewelry(I noticed sterling, turquoise and Bakelite), eyeglasses and old sunnies, music memorabilia, some gorgeous vintage lamps, clothing/ceramics etc. I could spend *ages* browsing here, but only had a few moments today as they do not allow dogs inside and I had my pup waiting outdoors for me with my boyfriend so I kept my visit short and sweet. It’s worth noting that the owner keeps odd hours, nothing posted that I could see, so catching Belly Up when it’s open feels magical in itself! I suggest that ya wander in next time you’re in the San Anselmo/Fairfax hood and lose yourself in a sea of forgotten treasures from yesteryears…
