I’ve walked by Piccomolo many, many times but never thought to try their gelato — until today. The clerks saw me eyeing the flavors and offered to give me samples. I sampled«roasted almond» and«birthday cake». After finding that, yes, the«birthday cake» did indeed taste like cake but way too sweet, I settled on «roasted almond». I told the clerk to give me the smallest size. When I saw how big the smallest size was(way too big!), that alone said one thing to me — given the cheap price(relatively speaking) and the huge amount, that this was going to be mediocre gelato at best. And I was right! The roasted almond flavor was there. Yet the gelato itself wasn’t very creamy. I even detected some ice crystals in it. While not horrible by any means, there also was no «wow» factor either. In other words, Pitango Gelato doesn’t have to worry about any competition coming from Piccomolo. I started to pick up what I thought was their business card but it turned out to be a «Reward Card». Only then, did the clerk stamp my purchase on the back. If you buy 10, you get 1 free cup. I can say this — there is no way that I’ll be eating this 9 more times. These days, I rarely eat gelato but next time I crave it, Pitango here I come!

I paid almost $ 5 for gelato in Fair Oaks Mall and threw it in the trash. They keep the ice cream for a long time and seemed to have freezer burn. Waste of money. Even the kids did not eat it and they eat almost everything.

Both of the Fairfax locations of Piccomolo closed! I’m so bummed because I LOVED their yogurt :(

I really like this place, despite it being in a mall. I believe they also have another location in downtown fairfax city… After having the asian type of yogurt in many places, this place is definitely the best! They give a generous amount of yogurt… and it’s sooo much cheaper than all the other places! I’ve also tried its hazelnut gelato, which is also heavenly! Definitely worth the visit if you’re at the mall. The employees there are also extremely friendly!

I’m not a fan of mall spots, but I walked past this and saw a pumpkin pie flavor and had to do it. I even went a little further and ordered it in milkshake form, and tried some samples of others(they’re generous with the samples — while I was standing there I saw a woman literally try 50% of the flavors they had). It wasn’t as strong a flavor as I had hoped for… but it wasn’t icky either. Their display is very nice, and is a large reason I ended up buying something at all. Plus — I had about a dollar and change on me, not enough for a milkshake, and they conveniently take credit cards. Also, they had some interesting flavors — I’m curious about the pear one, and the pannacotta I sampled wasn’t bad either.

2.5 stars Ehhh. An okay addition to Fair Oaks Mall. I really dislike shopping and usually avoid the mall as much as possible, but I went to meet some people for lunch and needed to run some errands. The selection of gelato wasn’t bad, but was just a small selection of the available flavors on the website. They all looked pretty good and the guy working there was nice and let us try some samples. The small size was pretty generous and you could get two flavors. I think medium lets you have three. The flavors were just okay. My friend’s chocolate something was kind of icy, which makes me think that it may have been sitting around for a while. Not that I expect them to be spinning artisan gelato in the back of that little shop at the mall, but the iciness was kind of a turn off. The Donatella(chocolate and hazelnut) wasn’t bad, but the flavor was lacking. The fruit flavors also didn’t seem as strong as other gelato I’ve had previously, but still had a sort of cloying sweet aftertaste. Not bad if you’re already in the mall, and I might get it again if I’m there, but there are better places in the area.

After a long day of shopping at Fair Oaks, Piccomolo was just the thing to end my experience. Their selection of gelato, while moderate, catered to all palletes. And for those who do not enjoy the sweet Italian treat, can always order the classic frozen yogurt. The treats can be accompained by a variety of toppings ranging from fruit to sprinkles for an additional charge. The staff behind the counter was equally as sweet as the gelato! They let my friend sample EVERY flavor of their gelato… talk about patience! :]

The location I went to is actually in downtown Fairfax City even though my search took me to this place instead. Really cute gelato shop with colorful trendy décor. I especially like the children’s furniture set with an elephant bench and a hippo table. Moderate selection of gelato and they even had the in frozen yogurt with a decent selection of mixings. My froyo with cap’n crunch and strawberry mixing was good for what I paid for. Cute gelato shop in the middle of up-and-coming downtown Fairfax city, but the selection is limited at best.

Yummmm… Gelato…this is a nice addition to the Fair Oaks Mall. Lots of yummy flavors. I ordered the Tropical Twist flavor that was to die for and had truffle as well which was decent. So totally yummy!!! I will be back!
