This store is small, but it’s got a lot of good merchandise — if you’re willing to spend the extra money. The truth of the matter is, a lot of what’s sold here can’t be considered top of the line quality. My boyfriend and I have bought two tents together at this location. The smaller of those tents is still in relative working condition. A wave board I bought here a while ago is still in good shape too(aside from some scratches from rocky beaches). The larger 10 person tent, while still functioning, has required some duct tape intervention and replacement parts a couple times. However, this is likely due at least in part to the fact we were using a canopy on that tent to dry towels after swimming(maybe not the best idea). Even so, that doesn’t account for the small holes that have started forming at the seams on different sides of the tent’s walls. I’ve gotten trail runners, running shoes and walking shoes here over the years and those have all been great purchases. Just don’t expect the $ 20 running shoe to hold up if you plan on using them more than once a week or so. The staff is helpful and on most days seem to enjoy their job to some degree. Different staff members seem to know different areas of the store better than others too. So just because the first person you talk to isn’t an expert in fishing or shoes, they likely know who is. Just ask! They’re always having sales too, so if you can manage to wait, that new item you’ve been pining for will likely end up on sale or clearance too. Their sidewalk sales are great for shoes and clothing also. They put a big sign out front so you’ll notice when it’s going on if you were to drive by. If you need something cheap, or see something you like in their weekly sale flyer — come on by! They’re prices aren’t always the best on non-sale merchandise, but if you time it right you can get a great deal.

I came here for some fishing gear and walked out empty handed. The only positive outcome was getting great advice on what gear I needed. Being clueless about fishing, I appreciated the honesty as the manager admitted that what they carried was not adequate for the type of catch I wanted. Their reels were strictly for freshwater only. Other than saltwater reels, they carried lots of other outdoor gears. It’s an honest business and they earned my trust and respect as a consumer. Customer service here is superb.

They have a lot of great sports equipment and materials(rackets, hiking, snow sports, etc.). They also have very competitive pricing. They also have equipment and materials not seen in other stores, so this is one of my go-to places to buy what other stores do not have. Walmart, Kmart, & Target cannot compare.

I am going to write this review for all Big 5 sporting goods. I can always find Asics shoes here for 40 – 70 bucks. I refuse to buy shoes at Academy because of the cheap quality of the shoes. Other stores that offer high end shoes end up costing close to 130 dollars. Some of the Asics run up in this range as well. I can find the same shoes at Big 5 for half the price during their Sunday sales. I am not sure how Big 5 can be smaller than Sports Authority and Academy and still discount their shoes a lot less than these other major players. Every time I travel and find a Big 5 I will stop and buy a pair of Asics shoes and bring them back with me to Sugar Lands, TX. I also buy snowboards and equipment from Big 5 when winter season is over. You can typically find a 500 dollar snowboard reduced to half the price or less if you wait for the season to be over because Big 5 is looking to get rid of their inventory. You will find brands like Burton and Solomon on sale too. :) Thanks, Robert Altmiller

I needed snow gloves really badly for snowboarding. I went to Kmart, walmart, target, etc… couldnt find any or for cheap. Then I came here assuming it would be pricey but a lot of them were on sale. At first I was gonna buy the kid size gloves because they were the cheapest & as I was going to pay, my friend pointed out the gloves on the side of the counter I didn’t even see, so I asked the Cashier if I could try them. I tried them on and they were more roomy than the kid size gloves & they were actually on sale for $ 6. Whadda deal. You jst gotta look hard for the deals here.

Went here yesterday to buy a yoga mat and resistance bands. I love coming here because their prices are very competitive, unlike places like Sports Chalet and Sports Authority. I bought my snowboard, boots, bindings and snow pants here last winter and probably saved hundreds. The employees are really nice. I had to use the restroom and they don’t have a public one, but the girl at the front said I could use it. A+! What kept me from giving 5 stars was that Matt and I were also looking to buy weights, but their prices and selection were not so good! Bummer.
