Hat’s off to the folks at Brennan’s Shebeen II located at Smith Richardson Golf Course. A new chef in the kitchen has done a wonderful job upgrading the food to some of the better pub food in the area. The wings(40 cents each on Sundays for football — SWEET!) are some of the tops in the area and my family has always enjoyed the sandwiches and soups. Wednesday night is Irish night with $ 7 specials on Shepard’s Pie, Corned Beef Sandwiches and Fish and Chips(another favorite of my family) making it a very affordable evening out with no clean up. Apparently they will be bringing in a top pizza maker from the area in a week with buy one get one free on Tuesday nights(for dine in only). Delivery service will apparently begin next week as well. If pizza’s are as good as advertised this will provide a good alternative for folks who live in the area(me). Fingers crossed!!!

My husband and I went to the Shebeen’s at Smith Richardson golf course for the first time this weekend after hearing such great things from our friends that live in the area. We had a great time! The bartender Leslie was very friendly and attentive. The burgers were great and my husband said it was the best Guinness he had had in a long time. The place was full of guys coming off the golf course who all seemed to be regulars. Leslie welcomed each of them by name which added to the cozy pub atmosphere. She told us they light the fireplace all winter long and frequently have bands play on Friday nights. They also had a great dining room to rent out for parties. Definitely check this place out, you will not be disappointed.

So, went to the Fairfield location which is fantastic. Enjoyed a proper Guinness & a Smithwicks. But went on a Sunday afternoon & they weren’t serving food until 5 so the owner suggested his other location @ the golf course. So off we went — The dining area is awful– circa 70s décor– which requires some serious updating. Took forever to be acknowledged by the staff and even longer to be served. We had: fish & chips– burnt bread crumb on my fish(ive been all over Ireland, since when do they use bread crumbs?! My experience there was that proper fish & chips are beer battered golden crunchiness using firm tender fresh white fish & chips were beautiful potatoes fried in fresh oil until perfect) was of poor quality & chips were limp & moderately warm, chicken wings– over cooked really not fresh– plain bland sauce, steak & salad– steak was basically inedible. Overall, a bad, bad experience!
