Have definitely had better sandwiches. Heard this was one of the best delis. The Thanksgiving type turkey sandwich was way too salty. The roast beef — average. We all had 3 sandwiches and agreed — none were too good. Like the help yourself to pickles though!

I love this deli. Everything I have ever had here has been delicious. They have a salad bar with an excellent selection of vegies, toppings, and dressings. Everything is fresh, the place is clean, the staff is very friendly and efficient. I highly recommend this deli. Be aware though that at lunch it can be packed.

I remember my mother taking my sister and I here when we were young. She used to call it our«secret place» where we’d have a little snack and sit in the back sunroom on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Nothing has changed about this place since then. Their hot & cold deli sandwiches are still a Fairfield staple and they continue to drive tons of traffic through their doors everyday. Weekends & lunch time gets pretty busy, but their system is well organized. Top wait time: ~10 mins My favorites?: — Arthur Ave… pretty much an italian combo — Mr. Prez… sliced turkey, crispy bacon, and Russian dressing? What could be better? — Their pickles… sweet & dill, both are VERY tasty and are up for grabs on the front counter Great salad bar with a huge selection of fresh toppings and lettuce. Large selection of chips, and drinks. Cute outdoor dining area on a brick alley way & in front. Seating available in back sunroom; great lighting and homey feel(caution: during Summer months, the back room can get a bit hot! Minor ventilation)

This once great deli has gone downhill fast. The sandwiches that were once huge are now paper thin. I was there on a day when there was a long line of long time customers asking«what on earth is going on». I was informed that one of the owners has now taken a more active role and is changing everything that was once great about it. Had the thanksgiving sandwich — literally had two slices of turkey on it. The manager was great about it, really apologetic and very attentive. Ill give it one more try to see if things go back to how they were — its just really sad to lose a place that you’ve been going to for over 20 years.

This is a great informal family place for wonderful sandwiches, many of which are novel(and tasty) innovations in addition to standard choices. It’s nice to have an alternative to cookie-cutter chains and this is a Fairfield institution much appreciated by locals.

I really want to give 3.5 stars because I will likely return however I’m rounding down instead of up. Clean and nice atmosphere. Probably better to visit when planning to sit outside rather than in. I’ve been there for breakfast and lunch a few times. The sandwiches are«ok». For a tri state area deli its sub par.

This place is always packed and I’ve never understood it. Pine Creek deli down the road is far better.

Stopped here for lunch after work. Nice place with a warm feel. Had the chili and a wrap called the momo on a whole wheat wrap. It’s essentially a small chicken Cesar salad on a wrap. Dressing was good, chicken was soft. A little overpriced for the size of the wrap and amount of chicken, but I suppose the area matches the price. Chili was solid, made in house, served piping hot. Not too spicy and just the right balance of meat and beans. Not bad for a quick lunch. Customer service was good, staff noticed me and took my order quickly. I’ve been here before and I’ll be back again.

Great sandwiches and plenty of seating. I also love their salad bar. Great place to stop before heading to the beautiful Fairfield beaches. Not a hangout spot, but a great deli with good, friendly service.

The service was good, friendly, it was cleanGood specials available. But, I ordered a hot Pastrami and corned beef on Rye w/grainy mustard, Cole slaw and Provolone cheese. Soda, chips. I received for $ 13. Was a total of 1.5oz of meat 1 slice of cheese, lots of Cole slaw that made it have very soggie bread which, fell apart in my hands. All for $ 13. Oh wait. the pickles were free. there ya go… Pathetic. Wake up Firehouse Owners. There are plenty of other Delis to patronize. See ya…

Must be new management because this is not the same place I grew up with. Overpriced NYC bodega-quality sandwiches, brown lettuce, sticky benches, and five open trash cans in the front. Staying open past 2pm in downtown Fairfield on a Sunday seems to be their only market strategy.

3.5÷5 for me Good spot if you are looking for a full salad bar or are craving any type of sanGwich you could imagine. The salad bar was a bit messy and disorganized, but they have a good range of deli meats and fresh condiments to your liking. There is plenty of outside table seating whether in front or on the side of the shop. There is also some seating in the back should the weather not cooperate and you are still in the deli mood. It is always great for a nice day to enjoy the weather and quiet setting outside of the random fire truck pulling in and out. Very casual but good overall as you would expect from a good deli. Buon appetito

We had a mixed experience here. It’s a neat place with a college town feel to it. You order up front where you can load up on pickles and grab a soft drink. The Ruben with pastrami was really good. Very tasty, a generous amount of meat, and not too greasy. The New Yorker however was awful. It desperately needed spicy mustard. Or something… It had no taste and the corned beef was dry and depressing. I wouldn’t order again! But other sandwiches are good and it’s worth a try just stay away from the New Yorker.,

how has this place only gotten 3 stars?!! Until recently I have lived in Fairfield my whole life and have eaten at this place more times then I care to say. To this day I have not tried anything else from this deli other than their tuna fish sandwich on a hard roll. ITISAMAZING and hands down my favorite place EVER to get it. Don’t ask me why it is, it just is. I don’t know but it was also the first place I had a tuna fish sandwich. Now that I dont live in Fairfield, each time I come up, I make a point to try and stop in for a the sandwich. Just thinking of this place makes me hungry. Maybe their other sandwiches arent as good… i dont know as again ive only had their tuna fish but only 3 stars? Fairfield must be going nuts! the place has been around for forever anyway. Try this place out despite the stars… its awesome

A solid back-up for breakfast sandwich below I-95. Prices continue to rise and consistency can be spotty. If you catch them on a good day with parking on Reef, you’ll be in luck. Backdrop of historic firehouse adds to ambience.

While this is not the firehouse deli of my college days it is still a pretty good place. I had the turkey burger special which was served with pesto, provolone cheese, greens and red onions sliced very thin BTW. It was supposed to have roasted red peppers but asked them to hold that. The special deserved 4 stars it was awesome. Service is pretty good, it just gets crazy busy in there.

A tried & true Fairfield staple– well deserved. Order from the deli’s many sandwich boards– great suggested combos– classics like Italian combo w roasted peppers, veggies– everything u could imagine, & chicken cutlet, tuna, & oven roasted turkey. Hot & cold options. A solid variety of breads & rolls, pre made salads like pasta, artichokes, mozzarella & tomato etc. Really nice fresh salad bar too which has home made deviled eggs, edemame, beets, & better than average dressings. Solid retail of chips, soft drinks, coffee, tea, baked goods & candy. Pretty out door dining on the brick patio on picnic tables or inside out back in the atrium. Gets pretty busy @ lunch time & on Saturdays. Pricier but worth it. Servic is pretty quick & accurate. However, the check-out staff boarders on rude– they barely acknowledge you & treat the clientele like cattle– lame! Small but clean bathrooms. Park across the street in the free parking lot near the town green.
