I have had issues with take out orders being wrong when ordering burgers, wings and chicken sandwiches. Either then forgetting to put stuff in the order or not taking the order correctly. I have also ordered different apps and normally love fried string beans elsewhere but theirs are soggy and gross. When trying to return them after ordering them and requesting to order something else or get a store credit they have me a credit but said I could only use it to order the same thing… huh…so I ordered it again and it came out the same way… I would not recommend. The pizza is decent for the area tho.

I used Big Sam’s a number of times in the past, last May they rubbed me the wrong way. I posted a Unilocal!review expressing that I had a horrible experience with them. The food arrived well over an hour late, they refused a refund for the food, and the customer service was just horrendous. In my review I said that they’d permanently lost my business. Their owner Sam reached out to me and asked me to give them another chance. He even offered to give me a free meal to give them another chance. I had told Sam several times that I would do that, and I never actually did. It meant a lot to me that the owner would take the time to reach out and have a frank discussion about the issues I had. I handle a customer service department for a living, so for me that spoke volumes. In the interim I missed some time from work when my wife delivered our first child prematurely(all is well) but by the time I decided to give Sam’s another chance I didn’t feel right accepting the free meal. But the fact that Sam had reached out the way he did with courteous professionalism had me inclined to give his establishment a second chance. I’ve ordered a few times from them recently, and I’ve had solid experiences, my faith was beginning to be restored. I was preparing to amend my review to give Sam’s a positive outlook. Instead… today I ordered through Grubhub(as I usually do), I asked for the order to be delivered between 11:45AM and 12PM, I knew that they couldn’t be exact with that, but as close to that window as possible would be idea. Instead my food arrived at 11:15AM. That means that my coworker’s food is going to be sitting here for 45 minutes getting cold. That’s ridiculous. I know that there’s only so much that can be done in terms of delivery, but for it to arrive 30 minutes before the preferred window is excessive to me. I want to be able to enjoy my food as intended, warm, hot, whatever the case may be, instead we’re going to have cold food. The pluses with Sam’s are plentiful, that’s why I actually increased my rating to two stars this time. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. But when it comes to delivery there are too many poor experiences for me to consistently continue to order from there. I guess I’ll be back to looking for another local business to order from. Sorry Sam, we tried.

I ordered off of grubhub. Was advised via grubhub app delivery would take 1 hour. But to my surprise they came 45 minutes later(cool point). Opened up the food and it started to go south. We ordered cheesesteaks, chicken finger hoagie, mega fries and broccoli bites. Grubhub menu said 10 broccoli bites — we received 8. Grubhub menu app said it came with honey mustard(weird I thought most places give marinara or ranch I requested ranch instead of honey mustard and I got honey mustard). Cheesesteaks were dry as anything and the bread was horrible and just not your average cheesesteak bread. Weird to explain but no good. Mega fries didn’t have ranch in them. Not all places put ranch in their mega fries which is fine BUT they had nothing in it to mellow out the cheese and prevent it from clopping together. So it didn’t taste too well. This is the first time in my house that mega fries went uneaten. The chicken finger hoagie was good — different bread was used for it(or it was same as cheesesteak bread but toasted). Overall food sucked bad! Pros: got delivery faster than expected. Since food was so horrible I did call and complain about being shorter 2 broccoli bites and said your broccoli bites are $ 6.75 more expensive than other places and you shorted me so I have to bring it up. Apparently they said their menu says 8 but the grubhub app says 10 in error(which isn’t my problem). They said since I was so far they wouldn’t bring me out 2 more, but they could give me credit for next order. I didn’t want the 2 broccoli bites nor did I want credit(as this would be a first and last relationship) so I said partial refund and they agreed and processed thru grubhub. So A+ customer service! Cons: Food is BAD! Prices little high but almost consistent with area. ONEUPDATE: Sam contacted me by message and was insistent that my issue was not with the food it was with the 2 missing broccoli bites. I told him flat out that I give honest reviews and it started and ended with the food as his message was rather rude and condescending. Customer service just got a little worse than I originally rated in the pros. If my 2 stars were based upon me missing 2 broccoli bites then shame on me BUT it is not, the food, in my opinion was not good and they were rated accordingly.

First time and last time! Well over and hour late and when I called they apologized for the delay. Big menu looked promising! Not! Food was horrible and the pizza was so greasy. Wish we could just find a decent pizza place since we moved to Philly.

Very good chicken salad, big portions, affordable prices. I order the chicken salad club sandwich, chicken garden salad, and for company events the 28″ chicken Alfredo pizza(which is extremely popular, especially with new people. Order it well done). Food is ready very fast for pick up, i’m not sure about delivery time, but usually when i come in they are well staffed with drivers. Its very upsetting to see some of the low ratings, because mostly the bad customers write bad reviews. Majority of all my orders and experiences with Big Sam’s have been very good. Delicious food with a wide variety on the menu. So i hope my rating influences you to give them a try.

Wow… when I received the menu in the mail, I was excited because I love neighborhood joints like this, and they’re usually really good. There were a lot of options, and really good deals and prices. Ordered their cheesesteaks for my family this past weekend, let’s just say, besides Geno’s, this place probably has the worst cheesesteaks. I’ve never had Cheesesteaks that were SOOOOOOOSALTY!!! I literally had to drown the cheesesteaks in ketchup to get rid of some of the saltiness. How can you get a cheesesteak wrong!!! To make it worse, there was barely any meat in them, and the rolls were only like 9 – 10 inches long. I should have looked at Unilocal before ordering, as I see there are a TON of poor reviews, and now I have personally experienced why. Never again! And I had such high hopes! :(

Once again, my husband and I were nearing the end of the football game and thinking of a quick dinner and thought we’d try Sam’s again for a quick«Sunday Funday» dinner. Maybe it’d be as before maybe not, but at least I didn’t have to cook. Again, pizza arrived hot, wings are a good size and moist. When I order from our usual take out I use a ton of paper towels to soak up the grease. I actually don’t use them at all when we order from here and is why I decided to give it a second try. This is our go-to for Sunday nights from now on. Only 4 stars because I haven’t been there in person and I can’t give 5 if I haven’t experienced in person.

Chicken parm hoagie arrives with dried out, non-breaded chicken. Chicken quesadilla arrives with same dried out awful chicken and no cheese. Called to politely ask what happened and they refused to replace. Very disappointed.

I ordered the onion petals and teriyaki boneless wings last night. GROSS. The petals were at least edible, but the teriyaki wings were terrible. They just fried some bland chicken pieces and poured teriyaki or soy sauce on them. It tasted like I was eating salt balls. No wonder their boneless wings are the cheapest in the area, I guess you get what you pay for.

This Place is absolutely horrible. When they mess up your order it is never the customer is right, the owner gets on the phone without even letting you speak and starts yelling at you and using profane language. They over charge orders so yes, be sure to check any debit/credit transaction placed with them. I order the Greek wrap and when I explained to them my concern I was told ok a new wrap would be sent out and I can throw the old one out, after 5 minutes of being placed on hold the young lady then got on the phone and tried to explain what was on the wrap I proceeded to tell her that what she was stating was incorrect and that when the gentlemen came to drop off the wrap I could show them. She then states that the owner says that the wrap is correct and will not send another one because he is losing MONEY… I asked to speak with the owner and he gets on the phone and tells me speak as if I am a dog I proceeded to try and state that I felt like my wrap was incorrect and he stated yelling at me and telling me about other people’s orders. BOTTOMLINE I would never order from them again.

The food quality is absolutely terrible. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza and steak fries, and both were soggy, greasy to the point of being inedible.

Lately I’ve been getting a lot of stuff from here, but oddly have never had one of their pizzas. However, I’ve had a few other items off the menu and they’ve ranged wildly in quality. The worst item I’ve had was the buffalo chicken fingers. Extremely soggy, weak sauce, just generally unappetizing. The best thing I’ve had here was their garlic knots, and while not the best garlic knots ever, they were fluffy and well prepared, though needed a bit more garlic. Their sandwiches are huge and usually good, and their vegetables at least are fresh. I’m not the biggest fan of this place. If I didn’t get it with my coworkers I wouldn’t think to go there on my own. However, their food is edible and they have a great deal to choose from, which is a plus. Though it’s kind of a crap shoot whether you get a good meal or a lack luster one.

Horrible. It is local to me, so I thought maybe it would be my secret go-to place. But no. The cheesesteak was awful. Soggy, little chipped bits of meat, bland. Garlic toast was undercooked and insipid.

Great pizza, quick delivery. Huge pizza, well worth the price. Try their panzarotti — a fried calzone. It is amazing, just don’t eat all of it. Problem is, you won’t be able to stop!

I ordered a veggie stromboli the other night and it was out of this world! It had the perfect amount of cheese and sauce(delicious sauce) and plenty of flavorful veggies. And it was huge — such a great deal!

OK, lets start off with the huge menu selections, way to many items for a pizza place to much to read and to many choices, if there were less choices maybe they can focus more on quality. I order there a few times a month it takes a long time to place an order with who ever answers phone, even when they repeat it back they miss items not sure if language barrier is problem or maybe they have a computer problem. Again menu might be issue. The food mostly ok, pizza’s never burnt big selection of desserts decent delivery time. I have never had a complete order correct yet, you order a ham and cheese with hoagie with mayo and tomato only, you get ham and cheese with lettuce tomato onions and mayo and seasons, you ask for coke zero you get regular coke, you order a tomato basil and ravioli soup you get a watery tomato soup with no basil no ravioli’s in it, we ordered a pizza Philly style but ask for Alfredo sauce instead of tomato sauce we got a reg Philly style pizza. Now, these are a few screw ups on orders over the time we have order here, it seems when you ask for special orders they still make it the way it is on menu, I have never gotten a correct order yet, its almost as they don’t even care how food goes out or check to see if it is made correctly. Again it might be a problem with computer or person taking orders or person making orders somewhere its lost in process. Yes they run great specials free pizza over $ 30, a free 2 liter of soda, but if your not going to get orders correct what’s the sense. Solutions can be made easily less on menu so they can focus on making orders correct, have a person who can take order over phone easily and quickly with no language barrier, then have cooks make orders as they are on slips, they have great potential however not my go to place yet and its a shame.

I love Big Sam’s. We order pizza and wings here on weekly basis. Sam is always very pleasant and helpful. The wings are amazing, make sure you get them extra crispy. The pizza is really good.

Geeze, I was wondering why Big Sams recently had their front window busted out. perhaps it was a disgruntled customer? I love this place and was just checking in this evening to give them a positive review! I’ve ordered from here easily 20+ times and have always had a good experience. However, I havn’t gotten too adventurous beyond an upside down pizza(DELICIOUS) and choosing some variety of their 75 kinds of fries as a wild card. My boyfriend has ordered cheese steaks and hoagies which have been large and he claims also delicious. Staff is friendly and I am always blown away by the 10+ people working/cooking behind the counter. Big group! Hey, its a pizza shop. not a 5 star restaurant. let’s not get too picky Unilocalers. Enjoy!

I have to hand it to the brave souls opening a new pizza shop in our area, especially when they are closing down almost as fast as they opened. The tried and true shops have been around for years and still struggle due to the economic times and competition, but Big Sam’s has moved in where the new and exciting Paisano’s Pizza & Wings recently opened and I loved them. So I asked Big Sam’s, «Is this just a name change or is it new ownership?» and they assured me that they were a totally different group, all new employees, etc. Well, I have to give them a try, for the sake of Unilocal,of course(wink). Their menu is as big as the phone book and they have so many Italian and American choices for appetizers, salads, sandwiches, a huge selection of pizza and entrees. Fifteen soups, seriously and they claim to all be homemade! I asked three times, you have all of these soups and they are all homemade? I am so obnoxious at times and she claimed they were, okay, I’ll have the cream of mushroom, the cream of potato and the New England clam chowder. Ha! I figured out how they do this! They start with the same very thin and milky broth that is so bland and unseasoned and then to one they add the mushrooms and to the next the clams and potatoes and so on. Ugh and I do mean ugh, if these are what you call homemade soups then my little granddaughter is ready to start her first try at cooking. I should have tried one of the many Italian soups, hopefully they take more pride in these. Hubby had a cheesesteak, he loves his cheesesteaks and he is not picky at all. This sandwich was loaded with chopped meat and I mean enough for three cheesesteaks with sauteed onions and cheese. He was not thrilled at all, he said the meat was«garbage» and bland and not of good quality and he never did find any cheese. They have a hundred choices of fries, not really but close and he made it a platter with their choice of fries and they use crispers when not specified and neither of us are a fan of these. On to my small pizza, a 12″ Florentine to which I added shrimp, total of $ 12.00. Description was olive oil, garlic, spinach, mushrooms, onions, feta cheese and mozzarella. I had asked if the mushrooms were fresh before ordering and yes they were, but there was not one teeny tiny speck of spinach on my Florentine pizza and there was one small shrimp sitting in the middle of each slice! The pizza really needed to be dressed more with the ingredients they did provide, very little feta, mushrooms and onions, it was basically a cheese pizza with a surprise bite here and there. I must admit though the ingredients were of good quality and I did like the crust. Last but not least was the first time I have ever heard of or tried a Panzarotti, they are made to order and stuffed with their choices or yours, a nice sized pocket of dough that I had«stuffed» with pepperoni, got to have my roni, onions, peppers, sauce and cheese. Well it was good, greasy good and I mean that in a good way, but they have this thing about omitting the cheese(not to mention the spinach) and if you call this stuffed I hate to see what barely dressed looks like to you. We were not overwhelmed enough to want to give them repeat business, like I said there are too many local shops that have been around for years and deserve our business because they give the customer what they want. I called back to say hey where is the spinach,(because I am a bitch) and she said okay, I’ll let Steve in the kitchen know and hung up and that was the end of that! Man these are tough times…
