We had one night free for our anniversary and we wantes seafood and something different. That is Fish Island. This a live fish Korean restaurant and this was my first encounter with this kind of meal. We got the small sashimi combo, and it was quite a feast. Rice porage, Followed by sashimi salad, squid salad, edimami, cheeze corn, and a few other sides. A huge amount of appetizers. I liked them all, but the sashimi salad was the best. Then this was follows by a huge plate of chef’s choice sashimi and included fluke from the tank. All high quality and a lot of it. Then came the fried Rock Fish, which could have been its own dinner by it’s was delicious. Some how we also got a soup made with the head and bone of the fluke. It was very spicy, but super flavorful. So they are pricy, but when you look at it from a quanity plus high quality it is ahidden jem of a deal.

My first came here, the rock fish and the geoduck are so bad. If you like fresh good taste seafood, this is not the place you wanna go. Overpriced food for this quality food.

Ambience is a little off(not a place to take someone on their 1st date) but the food is very good. Especially if you like fluke/flounder fish sashimi korean style.

Deep fried cod fish was really good and supper crispy which I really loved! Sushi combo a, on the other hand I do not recommend! Bake sweet corn cover in cheese is supper cheap and good as well . Overall the customer service was really good they were really welcoming and the food was OK! I would recommend this place! — because they open late !!! — fresh seafood witch you can see when you walk in — friend service

+ Open late + Tasty Sushi + Tasty Sashimi + Great service + LIVESEAFOOD + LOTSTOCHOOSEFROM! We came around 11pm one night with sushi cravings and this definitely hit the spot. Their sashimi salad was really good and worth trying! Can’t wait to come back and try more things from their menu!

My husband and I were anxious to try Fish Island for dinner with our family, because we can’t find a proper Korean hwe jip(raw fish house) in Seattle or the Eastside. There are lots of excellent quality sushi restaurants but no hwe jips that we can find. At a hwe jip, the common thing to do is order a live, fresh fish(often fluke or flounder) that they fillet and serve as sashimi, then they cook the fish bones into a spicy soup to end the meal. We ordered a Medium platter of the flounder and other sashimi for our table. As routine with a hwe jip, we were served many small appetizers that are kind of similar to Japanese izakaya. We each started with a small bowl of abalone rice porridge, which was delicious — everyone at the table ate this up. We got some ban chan that included typical Korean small dishes like bean sprouts and white kimchee. We also got edamame and vegetable pancake. The heartier small dishes came out next — creamy corn with cheese(very typical of hwe jip service) and vegetable tempura. We also got a lettuce and sashimi salad that was mixed with red pepper paste, which was refreshing. The hwe platter came out with lots of flounder, some tuna, salmon, white tuna and abalone. I recommend to eat the white tuna, you ask for sesame oil and seaweed sheets(gheem). You dip the white tuna into the sesame oil, wrap it in the gheem and eat it. The white tuna takes on a much creamier, cooler consistency that is delicious with the sesame oil. The quality of the fish was fine — nothing really extraordinary there. Our family couldn’t finish the platter, and we ended the meal with their fine spicy fish soup cooked with the flounder carcass. They also put udon noodles in there, which was a nice surprise. OH — almost forgot — they also served a whole rockfish that was deep fried, which was great, except for the sticky sweet sauce slathered all over it. I would definitely ask for that sauce on the side to dip next time. All in all, it’s nice to find a hwe jip in case we are in the mood for all the extras that come with the meal. But we’ve decided we’re fine with the excellent sushi we can find in our own local area. There wasn’t really anything at Fish Island that blew us away to make it a destination restaurant being 45 minutes away.

We used to be regulars but not anymore! This place has spotty service and unfriendly owners. That would be OK if the sushi was not shady. We always order the L or XL sashimi plate. The last couple times we came, they serve two different fish that tasted differently. One was fresher than the other side. They also«forgot» to give us the side part of the fish(which is so good and chewy!) when we mentioned it to them, they said sorry and gave us a lot more, probably from other people’s orders. Anyway disappointed in the quality of their fish and their shadiness.

This restaurant has fish tanks, and when we placed our orders for sushi, soft shell crabs, and several types of roe(fish eggs) it came out fresh, because they made it there lol, the soft shell crab came out like sushi, at first I didn’t know what to do with the fried end pieces, until I realized ‘its soft shell’ so I ate it lol, everything was tasty, the roe was different but once we started eating, we ended up diving into it, I was expecting seriously salty, but it was mild in flavor, yet so good at the same time. We were brought some before dinner appetizer’s, and the miso soup that was brought out was DELICIOUS!!! I am not a fan of miss, my husband is, but I am not lol. I still ate this soup, and afterwards, I wanted more, it was so yummy!

WOW! I love this place. Excellent service and even better food. Food was all so fresh. Reminds me of being back in the islands, fresh seafood. It’s a bit pricey but totally worth it. Total bill for 2 was $ 102.00 without tip:)

Holy Moly! We ordered the $ 149 meal to split between 4 adults and it was SO much food. Delicious fresh fish that just kept on coming! It was so unexpected. Their service was excellent as well. Maybe bring more people if you’re going to opt for the $ 149 meal it is SO worth the price.

The server was really great. That gives this place a notch up on the star from the get go. The presentation of the food here is very good. And as others have said, for $ 100, the 3 of us had a pretty fulfilling and diversified meal consisting of a surprising number of different dishes. The only real knock I can say about this place is that I think it may be a bit overpriced for what it is.

First time being here and it was great! The service was friendly and extremely helpful with the menu. I tried their miso soup tempura shrimp, California, San Francisco and Rainbow sushi rolls. Everything was da Bomb. A must try!

If you’re looking for some really fresh sashimi, this is the place. My family of nine came here to celebrate some birthdays. With big parties like these, getting the sashimi combinations is definitely a good idea. All three combos come with the same thing: small rice porridge, miso soup, tempura assortment, cheese corn, fried rock fish, sashimi platter and spicy fish soup. The only thing different about the three combos is the size and amount of sashimi. The parents in the family(4) shared the largest sashimi combination while my siblings and I(3) shared the smallest combination. We also ordered 8 orders as well for the two people in our family who aren’t fond of raw fish. The small rice porridge is pretty good, your standard Korean rice porridge. The miso soup is also pretty standard as well. These two items don’t shine above average but aren’t bad either. The tempura assortment was definitely yummy. They give you a lot of pieces of fried kobacha, potato, and a few other veggies. It comes with the classic tempura sauce you can dip in. The cheese corn is also an interesting little side dish. It’s basically corn that has an ooey gooey cheese melted/grilled on top. It’s actually quite appetizing and the two components work well with each other. The rock fish is giant and is pretty iconic. It’s this huge fish that gets deep fried and then a sauce is put on it. The sauce looks like a hot chili sauce but it’s actually a little on the sweet side. The fish meat is fresh and falls apart well. It’s nice that the fish doesn’t have too many bones so you don’t have to fish them out. The star of the combination is definitely the sashimi though. You get a large assortment and all the pieces are SO fresh. They aren’t as fatty as other places I’ve been to but they definitely taste delicious. The spicy soup is enough to make your stomach feel nice and warm at the end of the meal. It comes with some rice and the soup itself has a nice spicy kick to it. There are pieces of fish in the broth so the soup itself picks up that fresh fish flavor as well. In regards to the sushi rolls, they were just some what average. I think if I were to come here again I would only get the sashimi combination. The dragon roll was probably one of my favorites. Nothing beats creamy avocado and pieces of eel. The rainbow roll comes with fresh sashimi on top and is a classic California roll in the center. For some reason, this one didn’t taste as fresh as I wanted it to. The lion king roll sounds yummy because of the seared salmon, but the orange sauce is deceiving. What looks like it’s going to be savory ends up being a little sweet, too sweet for the salmon. But the seared salmon was definitely good. The spider roll comes with 5 pieces and I was missing that textural crunch that a spider roll usually has. We ordered the two rolls that come with spicy tuna and one of them had an overpowering sesame oil taste. Wasn’t too fond of that. However, despite these flaws, the rolls were still fresh and made to order and tasted fine. I just don’t think this is the best place to get sushi rolls. Service was quite present since we ordered so much and our waiter had to keep coming back to bring each component. But there is a call button by your table if you ever want to call for service. The people here speak both Korean and English(not the best but definitely comprehensible). Overall, fantastic place to get sashimi. The combos range from $ 75 – 120, but for the amount of food and quality, it seems like a pretty good price. Definitely will come back for the sashimi platter combo!

I went there with my wife to have some sushi last night. I wasn’t that hungry, just had one of those night that craving for some clean sushi. I have been to other Sushi or Japanese restaurant in the area before, so my expectation was not high. However, dish after dish(called Skidashi–«bonus») … such a delight. It was clean, tasty, and excellent service, I might add. Don’t go to other restaurant if you want some sushi. This is it. You will get your money’s worth.

It was alright. Not my cup of tea [fish]. I am used to the somewhat«americanized» version of eating sushi. I used to be one of those who only liked rolls and called myself a sushi lover! Of course, I would choose sashimi and nigiri over rolls any day now! This is my first time here and I did not know… that the sashimi I ate… was ALIVE 10 minutes before it was served to us. I think the sashimi was a little chewy compared to what I am used to [salmon, tuna, albacore, halibut etc.] so I was a bit skeptical on top of the fact that I did not know what tpye of fish I was eating. I still don’t know what I consumed that day. On top of the sashimi … was random other cut of things… I think abalone? was one of them and it was gross. The other chewy thing was alright but I definitely did not help myself to it. We had some party platter order from the menu and so a lot of different dishes came out. There was another whole fish that was basically deep-fried with sauce poured on top. It tasted alright, I don’t prefer deep-fried foods but the inside was delicious. Not salty at all. We had a Korean stew that came later on in our meal too. That wasn’t my favorite either but it has Udon noodles! Something I found familiar. Overall, I would give it 2 – 3 stars personally but i don’t want to degrade just because of my lack of unfamiliarness with the foods served there. Plus I did have the option of choosing off the menu directly. My friends did. They enjoyed it so I will put up the couple extra stars. It is quite pricey. Just a heads up.
