Sub Zero Ice Cream & Yogurt

I am really bummed about the service we received. We were so excited to surprise the kids after my sons surgery yesterday, only to be disappointed. The place is horrifically dirty! Floors, walls, glass, tables, chairs, everything! I also stood and listed to an entire conversation of the two young girls working tonight talk about boys and weekend events. I only waited patiently starring at them to wait and see how long until they helped me and my family of 5. 7 minutes to be exact! CRAZY! Then one girl says «oh, are you ordering? You have to stand here to order» while pointing a few inches from where I was standing already. They continued their poor customer service, out of 2 of the bases we wanted in the middle of the day, chattering about outside work, and the young man working didn’t look happy to be there. My 17 month old and 5 year old were laughing and having a great time watching the nitrogen fall from the countertops. I was enjoying watching them laugh, as were other customers… Yet, no eye contact or smiles from the employees. I’m bummed, and will definitely not being my family back for over priced ice cream with terrible service, and a dirty place. We ate outside on a bench down the way in front of another store because it was cleaner than anything near their place.

This place is amazing, with so many favors and great customer service. Definitely a must for the summer weather.

Note to self: DO NOT get a cashew milk base with mango flavoring. Looks and tastes likes vomit.

I would rate this as a ‘try-​it’ kind of place. I would also expect that a place touting liquid nitrogen as their while to be FUN. Staff was bland, vacant, and ‘millennial.’ We took 3 kids there among 4 adults to do just as I stated, to try something new; something fun. We walked in, behind ONE other patron, proceeded to wait for probably 5 – 8 minutes at the chance to order our first experience here. I am not disgruntled. We tried the product, did not enjoy it. With 3 young children, we became concerned when the 60 year old kid I our group got the fear of the frozen pole and ripped a chunk off his tongue… But I digress. Spoken to: no. Milk and syrup, sure. I waited 5 min while the register girl had something better to do than nitrogenate my cream and sugar then run my card and present me with a slip stating only… ‘Sign.’ It was truly amazing! I wouldn’t normally head this direction except that our company was in town from Chicago, and they were blown away by the staffs inability to recognize a new customer…

I’ve been to many nitrogen ice cream places along the west coast. This was probably my least favorite, unfortunately. It might have been the things I put in mine? But in theory, it should have been fool-​proof. Cheesecake ice cream with graham cracker crumbs, cheesecake bites, and strawberry? Idk… maybe it’s because I didn’t get the Premium base?

This place is OVER RATED! I’ve been here a few times giving them a chance to redeem themselves… Nope!
Place looks old inside. There’s no floor boards. There’s cracks in the floor. Not much seating outside for those hot days.
The way they make their ice cream is a cool and neat concept but when it comes down to taste… It’s nasty. It taste like plastic. It tastes fake. I use to love their cake batter… Before they used REAL cake batter now it’s just artificial flavoring. Thumbs down!
Staff members don’t look happy about their job. Maybe just working to make money. They don’t smile at all.

I have never heard of a place like this. In St. Louis, it’s all about concretes (frozen custard mixed with toppings) or FroYo and FroYo-​like restaurants. I was excited when I got to go. It was definitely different and made for a great experience because of the process.
The choices were great. It was a good mix of their specialty items. There is also the ability to create your own, which is really nice too. You had a choice of a lot of different milk bases. There were some that were lactose free and others that were milk. I got the premium because the rest I could easily have elsewhere. The toppings were endless. There were so many to choose from. There was also the choice of adding in flavors as well. Overall, it was a lot and I had a hard time choosing.
The staff was nice. They were busy so they didn’t have time to go beyond what was needed, but they were all nice to their customers. Which is always a great thing.
Would I try to come back? I’m not sure. Depends on how much time I have.

So disappointing. We have been to a couple of different nitrogen frozen ice cream places in the Bay Area. Those used specially patented machines to make their ice cream and the result is just outstanding. Sinfully creamy and smooth.
We were both so excited to finally find a similar place in the Seattle area, we even bought ourselves ice cream (usually it’s just for the kids). The setup of the place is nice, similar to a place we had been to before in terms of the ice cream choices. The ability to choose a low fat, premium, nonfat yogurt, or vegan base is really awesome. The number of flavors is overwhelming. The one downside to this sort of setup is that the flavors are not necessarily «real». An artificial flavor is mixed into the base that you choose. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you are looking for naturally flavored ice cream, this isn’t the place. You have to weigh the pros of being able to customize your ice cream with the cons of artificially flavored ice cream. Now it is possible that the syrup flavor they mix into their base is made from natural ingredients in some cases. I really don’t know.
We tried the lavender (for us), cake batter, and eggnog. In addition to base and flavor, you can add one free mix-​in and choose ice cream consistency. Now where things really fell down was the consistency of the ice cream. We were looking to duplicate that velvety ultra-​smooth texture that can only come with a fast liquid nitrogen freeze. We chose the middle of the ice cream consistencies, which was supposed to be like traditional scoopable ice cream. Unfortunately, what we got must have been the «Brain freeze», which is basically Dippin Dots. Crunchy bits of ice cream was not what we were looking for. I don’t think they made a mistake on what we wanted, because the lady mixing our ice cream even said something about lowering the temperature or some such indicating she knew we hadn’t chose the «Brain freeze». This place does not use special machines to mix the ice cream. It is done by hand. I don’t know if this is why the results were so poor or not, but I suspect that hand mixing is a lot less consistent.
The flavors on their own weren’t great either.

This place is somewhere you’d go once for the novelty. Liquid nitrogen ice cream is nothing new, but I was excited to hear that we could experience it not too far from Seattle. I was dropping off my sister in law and decided to swing by here for a late night snack. Let’s break it down to the pros and cons.
Pros: Lots of base flavors (ranging from custard, milk, lactose free, almond milk, etc), lots of toppings to choose from too (the first topping is free, additional toppings cost 50 cents extra, you can customize how cold you want your ice cream. Your order of ice cream is customized to your liking and made to order
Cons: They use the same cup (yes-singular=the same damn cup) to measure out all the bases (ie: mixing dairy with non dairy bases)-when I asked the employee to wash out the measuring cup before pouring my base he responded with «oh we use different bowls for each customer, so you can’t cross contaminate dairy and non-dairy”-excuse me, but you cross contaminate by pouring my non dairy lactose free base by pouring it into the same unwashed cup that you measured out my sister in law’s custard base… This is a serious health violation and can be potentially deadly for lactose intolerant people or people with nut allergies. If the employees don’t wash the measuring cups, they probably don’t wash the measuring spoons either… Service here is nothing to be amazed with, if anything this is the chipotle of ice cream, without any real ingredients.
We ended up getting the pistachio and the citric substance, but I wasn’t impressed with either of them. The ice cream itself here is nothing remarkable, it’s all syrup so it’s terribly sweet. The almonds that I had in my pistachio ice cream tasted oily-​a sign of old almonds. I threw mine away after eating about ¼ of it because it just wasn’t that great. I definitely won’t be coming back.

Was closed 2 pm Saturday before Mothers Day?! Chairs were up off floor — on tables. So my guess is they have not been open since whatever was their last cleaning. No sign anywhere we could see, not even by hours open sign. Disappointed mother daughter day. Hope they can fix whatever is the cause. Bonney Lake location.

My hubby and I always love coming here whenever we drive down south. It’s such a fun place for everyone. I love the selections and the variety you can make your ice cream into. Maybe there are too many selections on the menu and could take the customers a few minutes just to decide. The line is usually pretty long so could take some time. However, that just means the business is good! btw — The brain freeze is really really cold! My tongue got stuck once but it’s so much fun to eat it.

It’s a cool dessert place; I was amused that the things I did as part of my Thermo class in High School turned into a business.
It’s a really awesome idea and really cool place; I jumped up and down when they put liquid nitrogen. However, the ice cream taste was just alright.
I got the numb tongue with Coffee + cherries. I feel like the formula didn’t take into account that the flavor will be concentrated once it’s frozen. The ice cream was too sweet :(other than that, it was a great experience :)

Came here after having KBBQ for a girlfriend’s birthday. There was only two employees working and we were a group of eight. There were two customers before us and two after.
Service was slow, but it was to be expected an hr before close on a Monday night. One guy seemed new and was under training, so the slowness wasn’t a big deal. We weren’t in a rush.
I had the #11. Which was coffee ice cream with almonds, chocolate, and heath candy. It was good, not as sweet as I thought it would be, but still sweet. I liked it, but I don’t think it’s anything special.
I know the big deal about this place is because they use liquid nitrogen to make the ice cream and that’s pretty cool, but flavor wise it’s alright. I’d like it better if they used less syrups because the ice cream can end up tasting syrupy.
It’s always a nice alternative to the usual Baskin Robins or Cold Stone. Oh, and it makes for a good Snapchat video lol.

Somewhat of a creative ice cream shop but unfortunately, I don’t like mixing ice cream with Italian soda syrup. If I do come here again, I would consider skipping the syrup flavors.

Call me old fashioned but I think I just prefer not using liquid nitrogen to make my ice cream. More than anything I think the attraction is to see the ice cream get made. I have to admit seeing the ice cream getting made was pretty cool.
Flavor wise, the ice cream was kind of bland. I liked the filling but I probably would have preferred the filling to be added after the ice cream was made as opposed to being frozen with the rest of the ice cream.
Overall I’d say it was worth trying out, but for the price and the quality of ice cream I probably won’t be coming here frequently when there are other ice cream shops out there.

I was really excited to come here with my cousins to check it out. Decided to come here after having dinner nearby. It’s a build-​your-​own-​ice-​cream place, made frozen with liquid nitrogen! It’s a science geek’s dream come true! You choose a base, flavors, your mix ins, then finally how cold you want the ice cream to be.
I was a bit disappointed overall because the base I wanted (custard) was out and my second base choice (soy) was out also, so I went with regular base. They were also out of several of my top toppings that I wanted to choose. And during my order, they had to run back and forth from the back room, to grab missing ingredients.
What the heck?! I’ve owned and operated several restaurants before and rarely ran out of anything and made sure my employees had backups prepared and ready to go. Sorry about the rant but I believe they need to be more prepared and stocked, especially on busier days.
It was cool seeing the N2 aka nitrogen coming out and «freezing» the liquid instantly into ice cream. The ice cream that I got tasted ok, but it wasn’t as creamy or tasted as good as I thought it would be. The place was pretty packed though, and I may come back, but during the early afternoon, when hopefully they have more items in stock.

It’s amazing to still get a crave for ice cream even in 45 degrees weather lol. I heard about this place through my boyfriend since he’s originally from Federal Way, WA. He kept raving about how delicious their «brain freeze» ice cream was, so on our last visit here, I nagged him to take me here after eating dinner with his family haha.
What makes this place stand-​out is not only the flavors of their ice cream, but how they make it. Using liquid nitrogen, just like a magic trick, it starts off liquid, and within minutes, it’s frozen solid! I guess you can say Sub Zero brings out your inner child when it comes to watching them make it.
When ordering, there are 3 steps: 1) choose a base (low-​fat, sugar free, custard, etc.), 2) choose your flavors (you can create your own flavors or choose from their signature creations). and 3) choose your mix ins (sprinkles, candy, etc.). First mix is free; additional mixes are an additional 50 cents more. You can also choose the texture and freeze level of your ice cream: soft serve, froyo or even brain freeze. Brain freeze is similar to Dipping Dots. It’s temperature freezes below 0 degrees and the texture is more brittle-​like, but don’t worry, the flavors are still packed in every bite!
It’s a bit pricey here, but if you’re looking for great flavors and a fun experience, then it’s definitely worth the price. If I lived here, then I’m sure I would be here at least once a week and fatter than a cow ;)

I am not really a soft serve ice cream type of person so I love that I can customize my freeze level here! The owner or manager (perhaps both) is always super friendly and helpful.
You can see kids eyes going wide open in amusement but even I find it amusing watching them turn my liquid choices into the beloved dessert– ice cream!
I usually get banana nutella with brownies and it is sooooooo good. The only thing that sucks is they are not opened on Sundays! But it’s okay, rest day is always good =)

If liquid nitrogen excites you, then Sub Zero will definitely bring the kid out in you.
I heard about this place countless times since ice cream is made from liquid to solid in a matter of minutes right in front of you. It’s fun for anyone to feel that cool white cloud of nitrogen all over your hands. The best part is, this place offers so many flavors and mix ins that you can make a crazy number of combinations each and every time!
Like Coldstones, they have classic signature flavors if you’re not feeling like building your own. Otherwise, you better start thinking of the combination you want! First you want to pick your size, small to large. Then you’ll want to pick your base. They are super accommodating here so if you’re lactose intolerant, they’ve got you covered. They have anywhere from your rich, full fat milk to soy milk, almond milk and even a lactase free base. Then you pick your flavors. When you build your own, there is no limit to the number of flavors you pick. Pick however many you want. Then you can put in one mix-​in with every additional mix-​in being an additional 50 cents. After that you choose your chill factor. The chill factor will change the texture of your ice cream. They can make your creation into a soft serve consistency, a scoopable consistency or the icicle consistency. Make sure to remember that the type of milk base you use will change the consistency as well. Then the creation is made right in front of you. You can pay for and pick up your treat at the end of the station.
I built my own in a medium size and went with two flavors: toasted coconut and chai. For my mix-​in I added coconut flakes (I was really craving coconut that night). I chose the lactase free base with the second chill factor (scoopable). However, because of the lactase free base, the consistency was a little grainy. The texture didn’t bother me though. Once you get a spoonful, even though it’s slightly falling apart, the ice cream melts and melds in your mouth. My flavor combo tasted so good to me that I didn’t even care about the texture of the ice cream. It was a perfect mix of chai and coconut. It actually tasted like a chai tea latte with soy milk from Starbucks in ice cream form with a dash of coconut flavoring. The coconut flakes were also fun to eat. Overall, aromatic and so lovely.
The people there are super nice and friendly. The app they use was having a lot of trouble when it came time to payment so they said it was on the house! (Free ice cream, what?!). It was really, really sweet of them. I know that not everyone is going to be able to get their ice cream on the house, but I’m just saying this to illustrate how nice the people are there.
I squealed when I saw the liquid nitrogen. I know I’ll be coming back when I get the chance for some more fun combinations.

I love the concept, I loved the service, I loved my creation!!!
So there’s three steps; #1 choose a base. We chose custard because the higher egg content makes for a creamier consistency! #2 choose your flavors. This can take awhile because the options are extensive lol we decided brownie batter, cake batter, and a little bit of marshmallow! #3 choose your mix ins! Comes with one, past that there’s a little charge. We added cheesecake bits, oreos, cookie dough (and she mistakenly added snickers and were so happy she did!!! It gave our creation a slightly salty/​nutty/​caramely spunk!
So yeah, kind of like a cold stone but not actually at all but really way cooler!!! Can’t wait to go back!
