I agree with the previous post that the initial entrance/atmosphere is a bit strange since it is a mix between a hair salon and«day spa». Not many people were in for hair appointments when I was there, so that was fine by me. The massage I had also started with me on my back which was only the second time I’ve ever had a session start that way. Before going in there, we had discussed pressure and any areas to target(which consisted of my back and shoulders). The massage itself was great, I felt that she did a great job with pressure and attention to the areas I requested. I also appreciated that she didn’t say more than a few words throughout the session. I don’t recall the music being exceptionally loud or quiet… Overall, good experience and I would definitely go back for another promo event(like the Groupon rates), but not for the regular prices.

I was having a particularly rough week, and instead of solving my problems with bread pudding(like I usually do!), I decided that a massage would be much healthier. Luckily, I had a Groupon for Port Salon & Day Spa for an hour-long massage. Perfect. I called and made a reservation pretty easily. I arrived, and was a little surprised at the atmosphere. Apparently, ‘Port Salon & Day Spa’ really stands true to its name — it really was a hair salon, filled with middle aged white women getting their hair puffed and fluffed. Who knew? It smelled like hairspray and the 80’s. Only in Fenton. I’m sure they were wondering what this brown girl with curly hair was doing in their salon. Anyway, I filled out some paperwork, and was quickly introduced to my massage therapist. She led me to the back room, left the room so I could get undressed, and then came back in a few minutes later. As I was lying on the table, I noticed that the ambient music was REALLY loud. The massage therapist told me it was that loud so it could drown out the noise from the salon. Argh. It was distracting. The massage itself was decent. I could have used firmer pressure, and unlike other massage therapists I’ve worked with elsewhere, she never asked me what sort of pressure to use. The order of the massage was also REALLY weird. Instead of starting me face down like most therapists, she started me face up. She spent a LOT of time on my arms and shoulders, where I would have much preferred that time to be spent on my neck, shoulders, and back. Again, this could have been remedied had she asked me beforehand what my preferences were. One positive about the massage: she wasn’t chatty. She didn’t speak a single word to me during the entire massage, which is DEFINITELY what I prefer. To me, there is nothing more annoying than a masseuse that won’t shut the hell up and let me relax. So kudos to her on that. So while this definitely wasn’t the worst massage I’ve ever had in my life, it wasn’t mindblowing, either. I won’t be back.
