Well… Being that I’m trying to eat unprocessed healthy food the I 5 is definitely a wasteland offering little to nothing in the way of a miracle culinary oasis. But we tried to manage expectations and hit the local spot. Here’s what we found out: First rule of the apricot tree: don’t order water. Just buy bottled in the gift shop. Both club soda and the regular water taste like it was syphoned from a chlorine swimming pool through a chemistry set. The water has a smell. So don’t order ice either. There were 3 of us and got the t-bone steak, fish and chips and a burger. Vegetables were school lunch caliber. Fish sticks were TV dinner quality. The t-bone steak was very good. I enjoyed it. Flat salty and a bit fatty and did the trick. The burger ordered medium rare came out uncooked. But the waiter was very nice. It came back cooked properly and was satisfactory. If you find yourself starving this will do. If you can eat anything the place is great. If you have sensitivities or are finicky definitely plan better. The people were very nice. And that counts for something.

The place was empty on a Monday in July, but their service was pleasant and their food was better than expected. A bit pricey, but I’d rather support a struggling small business than the nearby fast food chains. The interior is low lit with lots of old lunch boxes lining the rafters and booths. From the outside and interior, it doesn’t look appealing. But the food was fast, fresh and surprisingly delicious. Try the apricot muffins! With a little paint and some skylights, this old restaurant could easily become a required road trip stop.

This place made me sad. The guy taking our order looked sincerely disappointed and sighed when I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich. He was right. The cheese was a white/orange combo, not entirely melted and the bread wasn’t buttered on the outside so it lacked the crispy grilled goodness that is half the grilled cheese experience. No wonder the waiter looked sad. The service was friendly and fast, though, and we had fun looking at the lunchbox collection that lines the walls.

In the middle of nowhere when there isn’t that many options, it’s an ok option. The surrounding isn’t very inviting, driving into their driveway, go in carefully since the asphalt is falling a part and filled with pot holes . The service was good and pretty quick . I ordered the halibut steak, it comes with vegetable soup which was decent, vegetables and mash potatoes . The fist was dry and didn’t taste like much, the rest was ok. If you are really hungry in the middle of nowhere, it’s ok!

I really enjoyed my visit, price is fair, good portion and service was excellent. I will be back when traveling.

Now this is a random restaurant surrounded by fast food spots and gas stations along a stretch of I-5 no-man’s land. I’m always down to try strange restaurants, so I figured this place would do the trick. Old school restaurant as far as design, but the collection of old lunch boxes throughout the place threw me for a loop… pretty random. The place was dead, but the a/c was humming and the drinks were cold. I had a chef salad the size of a small country and since this spot is known for«apricots» I decided to wash my salad down with an apricot milk shake. Everything was good… our waiter was kind of slow witted, but over all the experience wasn’t too bad.

Don’t expect a gourmet experience and you won’t be disappointed. The food is average at best. We did not try anything apricot based and that might be where we went wrong. The lunch boxes on the wall are a very nice touch

Stopped in at the apricot tree on our way down to LA food that we ordered pancakes with apricots and omelette with cheese where the worst that we ever had. We had stopped there a year ago and the food wasn’t very good then but we thought we would give it another try. This will not be one of our stops going to LA next time.
