Tinderbox Annex

Whilst travelling Route 66 me and the wife Unilocaled restaurants. We arrived had a couple of drinks at the bar then sat down to a fantastic meal. We could not fault the quality of food or the attention to detail by the servers.

2^nd time to eat here and it was amazing once again! I usually do not eat duck in the States because it is hard to prepare but this dish absolutely melts in your mouth! There were five of us and we each ordered a different desert and shared, they were all very good, if I had to pick one it would have to be the green tea cream brûlée but it is a tough choice with every desert being extraordinary in taste and presentation

This place is off the chains! Who needs a menu when you have a chalk board? Best bartenders and incredible food. Seriously what more do you need? Whiskey and stellar food! Just hit this place do you mouth a huge favor!

Probably our favorite bar (Annex). The bartenders here are the best. Helpful and knowledgeable. If you’ve never had a Churchill Manhattan you are certainly missing out. Check out Tinderbox for dinner with a date or family who is visiting Flagstaff.

What a great place! There are some really nice cocktails on the menu. I’ll have to go back to try a few more! Also tried the beets here and they were amazing!

Okay. First off, we live in The Valley and get to Flag maybe 3 times a year. We’ve been coming to the Annex every time since they opened. The drinks are always top notch– well even better than that. And the food is spectacular. Mostly, though, it’s the bartenders. They all have skills that are phenomenal. Remember I said we get here 3 times in a year? We are not regulars by any means but the bartenders remember us. They remember what we like. This is what makes us want to keep coming back– people who care. So, yes, the Annex and its sister restaurants will be ones that I recommend to anyone who will listen.

Awesome new bar with a great back patio. Drinks were well crafted and reasonably priced. Was happy to enjoy the bar before NAU was in session. We practically had the place to ourselves on a Saturday night. A great option for those looking to enjoy a more mature bar.

Easily the best place I dined in Flagstaff! Drinks and food are great, lounge-​style atmosphere featured friendly and professional bartenders, and the prices were more than fair. Can’t wait to try their proper restaurant next door on a future visit!*
DRINKS: The Lemon Shandy is a tasty summer beverage, and only $ 5 during HH! The drink menu features a few different variations on the Moscow Mule, the London Mule being especially delicious (made with gin).
FRIED CAULIFLOWER: A popular choice, we got one of the last orders before it was erased from the menu. Light batter, crispy exterior, seasoned with brown butter, lemon, and sea salt, it’s easily one of the better versions I’ve had and an ample serving for the low $ 6 price.
CHEFS BOARD: Don’t come here without ordering this, it’s the ultimate in bar snack foods! House-​cured meats (3, including a pastrami and a duck breast) and cheeses (two, a tea-​rubbed cheddar and a potato-​chip something or other?), all incredible and accented with Dijon, a house-​made fruit compote, pickled veggies, and several large pieces of flatbread. A steal at $ 16, with ample portions of each item and lots of fun textures to mix and match.
Drink menu is large but food menu is limited, so don’t plan to eat a full meal here unless it’s their featured burger. Seating includes some couches and chairs, the bar, and a large community table. There is also a back patio area if the weather is nice!
*NOTE: Read the reviews carefully. This spot is half restaurant (Tinderbox Kitchen) and half bar (Tinderbox Annex), which serves a limited menu. Reviews for both businesses are mixed up on both Unilocal pages.

stopped in for a night cap after a meal at tinderbox. good libations at reasonable prices would stop in to eat on my next visit looked good!

By far the best meal I had while in Flagstaff. That’s not really saying much actually, but this place does seem to be the real deal. Fried Cauliflower is one of my favorite dishes, and this one was probably the best I’ve had in years. Also had the Chef’s Board with different meats and cheeses, all were absolutely delicious.
I also ordered a London Mule, which was perfect. Great service and atmosphere. Wish I stayed and had more food. next time!

Came in and asked for a blended drink for a friend that rarely drinks. She rudely answered me with a quick «what?» What are you talking about”? I said a «blender» She said «No we don’t have one of those.» I said «oh ok, my friend wanted a piña colada». She then made me feel embarrassed by saying they were an out dated drink and no one does those and that «We are so not doing that here.» And that «it’s an old fashioned drink and out dated.» So I told her she was being rude and left. I’m a manager of a local restaurant and I’ve worked in this industry for eleven years and that was the worst service ever. Never ever recommending this place thanks to her. 7÷27÷2015 at 6:00pm. Rude bartender.

I have to travel to Flagstaff for business occasionally and this place was recommended to me by a customer I was with. I had the New York steak with mashed potatoes. The menu said it came with asparagus but they put two spears on my plate. Literally. The steak was good and so were the mashed potatoes. I shared a salad with my wife and a side of pickled beets that were yummy. They had a very nice wine selection which I took advantage of with my steak. For desert I had a piece of chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream that was dreamy. I don’t have a big sweet tooth but was suddenly hearing voices in my head telling me to try it and it was well worth it. The restaurant is connected to another bar if you want to keep drinking after dinner. The place is located near downtown so there are plenty of other things to do after dinner that are walking distance.

Hands down our Flagstaff favorite. One of the best bars anywhere, ever. The bartenders are just awesome, true craftsmen and key contributors to the ambience at this special place. The menu is not large, but everything on it is outstanding. House-​made charcuterie is excellent. Great patio too!

The Annex is a real treat. Always a tasteful selection of gourmet plates at surprisingly reasonable prices. Just don’t try to substitute anything. If you want to do that you have to pay full price next door. Trust me. You don’t need to substitute anything. Just enjoy.

Well, I really thought this was going to be a 5-​star. I have never been to Flagstaff and of course we checked Unilocal before going anywhere!
First glance: super cute, pretty, romantic interior. We had a 2-​year-​old with us and she ate everything we ate.
The charcuterie was the only really good thing. I hate giving «meh» reviews. I was just expecting everything to be really yummy because the menu was written well.
I ended up with the duck breast (my FAVORITE protein) and I couldn’t finish it. First, it was over done. Second, the skin wasn’t crispy. Third, the fat under the skin was super thick and hadn’t been rendered out. It was chewy. We were dining with another couple and the guy is a chef and his dish «didn’t make sense.» I don’t remember what he had.
Prices were as expected for a fine dining place. Honestly the best dish besides charcuterie was the grilled cheese my daughter ordered.
2 stars for food, 5 for service. Our server was great.

Quick service and good drinks. Not cheap, but it’s a trendy place so that’s expected. Not a dive by any means. Great place to wait for the restaurant to open. Have a drink and relax then move over to a table!

For the money, my friend & I decided the chef’s menu with the chef actuality here, this was disappointing.
First course was good. But the 2^nd was seafood & scallop was perfect but halibut was over cooked. Third was a very very chewy venison which was average. The fourth was some gross fried flour ball desert that hAd bitter aftertaste. 3 stars at best.

I think going here on my way back from Antelope Canyon has forever ruined burgers for me, yes. it was THAT good. I don’t care if people say this place is pretentious or too cool for school, because IMHO, they are too cool. The good is excellent, the pork belly plate was quite a large portion, and the turkey cutlet sandwich was out of this world good!
Back to my burger though. the bacon jam stuff on it, amazing, cooked perfectly and moist, the bun was not too thick as to where i don’t know i am eating meat either.
So yes, best burger ever.

2 words, especially in the spring and summer:
Lemon.
Shandy.
No one does it as well as Tinderbox.

Tinderbox Annex has gone from one of my favorite Flagstaff bars to my absolute favorite Flagstaff bar! For that reason I am upping my review to five stars. Some of the highlights from my first four star review included (that’s right, I have review highlights):

All that is still true, but the place just seems better. We’ve met more of the bartenders and the owner/​manager, Kevin. It was fun talking whiskey, Flagstaff, and trying a sample of that Black Maple Hill! Whenever we make it to Flagstaff, we’ll be spending some time at Tinderbox Annex (aka Annex T)!
