Solid neighborhood restaurant. Favorites are Bao(which are as good as momofuku), salt and pepper shrimp and whole fish(when they have it). Always delicious and friendly.

We went to Hunger Pang a couple of times and we fell in love with the food. This a small place that desserves to be well known. It’s an original(and tasty) perspective on Asian food. Don’t miss out on the vegetable dumplings and the Hong Kong style noodles. Located on a section of Church Ave that is not crowded, it’s a perfect nook for Brooklynites! There was always plenty of room when we showed up, and the service was always very good and friendly. We strongly recommend this place and hope they will keep doing a great job!

What a culinary gem! Found this yummy storefront bistro on Unilocal while searching for a dinner spot prior to seeing the Celtic Woman at the Kings Theatre in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. The reviews whetted our appetites and we were certainly thrilled with our choices. Chef/Owner, Medwin Pang(yes the reason for the name) is a cleaver culinary creator. As you explore the incredible variety and combinations of his savory dishes you will be transported from organic farms to Asian villages. Four of us ordered different dishes and happily ‘chop-sticked’ our way onto each plate. From assorted pickles, crisp, tart and tasty; pork, chive and cheddar dumplings, oh the crispy cheddar!; grilled shiitake salad and incredibly tender and yummy mussels in a chili lime broth got us started. Our entrees added even more flavor and beauty to our dining experience, jalapeño pork fried rice, topped with a perfectly fried egg; pang fried noodles, so yummy; crispy roasted chicken that melted in our mouths with truffle oil French fried potatoes. Ah, and then to sweetly wrap up our culinary delights … yummy and tastebuds satisfying black sesame seed and fresh cherry ice cream. I want Chef Medwin to open a satellite Hunger Pang in the Hudson Valley… but we will travel back to Brooklyn solely to dine on the culinary delights at Hunger Pang. Kudos to Alison and Brian for friendly and superb service. Flo & Andy Hannes, Salisbury Mills, NY June 22, 2016

This place is consistently good– been here twice and each time, there seems to be new takes and flavors on old classics. For example, their pork fried rice appetizer. I grew up eating this staple and I assumed I’ve tasted all variations of this dish. Hunger Pang infused some black magic into it that even my boyfriend, who just isn’t a fan of fried rice, loved it. They also have this voodoo where they make the roast chicken taste like roast duck. It’s madness and I can’t wait to see what they try next.

This place is located on a quaint corner and is really good for brunch. Its another one of those«just grab a seat anywhere» places so its a good catch up place or maybe even a casual first date. So when it comes to ordering, whatever you do, you must order an item with pulled pork and an egg on top! I had the pulled pork hash with fries and an egg. It was so good but next time I would probably ask for more pork and less fries haha. Honestly, the only reason I gave these guys 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because they had ran out of a few items that I had really wanted to try which totally sucked. Nothing worse than hearing«sorry we ran out» BUT what we did order was super delicious so I’m sure what wasn’t in stock was good too! For dessert I had green tea crème Brule — I know, I know sounds yuck — but it was really good!

Hunger Pang NYBK Flatbush 8:30p Saturday 4th June 2016 Five Stars If this place was in Manhattan, there would be a line around the block. Instead Hunger Pang sits on a quiet street in Flatbush Brooklyn. The place had a constant stream of people but it was never really crowded. We drank Kirin Beer in a can and we snacked on a few appetizers. The Pickle plate had Mama O’s Vegan Kimchi, Marinated Sea-Beans, and Szechuan spiced cucumbers($ 8). Each had a bit of crunch, a splash of spice, and a light vinegar flavor. The Pork, Chive & Cheddar Dumplings($ 8) were amazing. They take your traditional handmade gyoza and then fried with a layer of Sharp Cheddar. Most Asian people don’t do diary so the addition of cheese felt deliciously taboo. The salty crispy cheese, tender pork, tangy chives, and a golden brown dumpling wrapper leave you wanting more. The Pangry Wings($ 8) had a light and crispy batter. The citrus and salt profile was a nice change from the heavy handed sauces of your traditional wing joints. My friends and I shared a Duck Salad($ 17) and the Steak with Salad($ 25) and Steak with Fries($ 25). However for $ 3 more you can make them Truffle Fries. The Duck was cooked medium, sliced thinly, and had tons of flavor. The combination of Baby Kale, Watercrest, Shiitake, Bean Sprouts, and the Orange Honey Vinaigrette and Pumpkin Seeds made for a deliciously refreshing salad. The Steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and topped with garlic, lemon, and butter. You really can’t ask for anything more. I never expect fries at an asian place but there were crunchy, fatty, and quite enjoyable. We finished the meal with the Banana Split: A scoop of Green Tea, Chocolate, and Vanilla Ice Cream, Caramelized Bananas, Ginger Whipped Cream and topped with chocolate chips, maraschino cherries, and mini umbrella. We usually don’t eat too much dessert but we finished the whole thing. If you are anywhere in the area or looking to try something deliciously different, you should check out Hunger Pang(Just off the Q Train).

Amazing Food, not ready for the delicious that attacked us. every dish of the 12 we tried was … gone before we were ready for it to be gone. All was great. but the highlights were 12 hour pork on pang noodles. crazy good. Bok choy. yum… Macha crème brûlée to die for, only wish the dish it was served in was shallower and wider to get more of the brulee.

I’m usually not a fan of Asian fusion, but Hunger Pang is excellent. Church Avenue is definitely on the up and up. You can tell when a neighborhood starts having good Asian food instead of chop suey hole-in-the-walls. The food seems very Chinese inspired, at least in my estimation. They have modern takes on dumplings, fried apps, and seafood. For starters, we shared the Pangry Wings(fried chicken with a spicy citrus green sauce, which wasn’t actually the spicy). Wings were super crispy, and the tangy dipping sauce was great with it. Because you can never have enough fried food, we also did the salt and pepper popcorn shrimp, which came with a spicy mayo dipping sauce. Of the two, I liked that more, but both were great. For my main, I had the General Guan’s Roasted Chicken. It was delicious, but be warned, the portion sizes are gargantuan. It was almost a half chicken, with the crispy skin slathered in honey, and tons of fried garlic chips on top. Because of my aforementioned affinity for fried foods, I went with the side of fries, which were advertised as the best in NY. They were pretty damn good fries. A bit thicker cut than shoestring, and the perfect amount of crispy and fluffy. You can also get them with truffle and parmesan, but even I have my limits. I also got to try the Pang Fried Noodles with 12 hour pork. That was their take on pan fried noodles, which is a staple of Chinese food. It was pretty good, and again, the portion size was huge! All in all, I was a big fan of Hunger Pang and am looking forward to returning and trying some of their more adventurous offerings!

Interesting menu options, and wonderfully prepared in a home-cooked fashion that felt quaint and tasted delicious. The waitresses and hostess were so kind and friendly, they definitely added to the experience for sure! I went for brunch and my group ordered the banh mi, carbonara, and steak and eggs. The banh mi, while it was not traditional, was very good. The bread to filling ratio was immaculate! Pork is a little salty so be sure to have water on hand! The carbonara was an interesting take on the italian classic by using chinese egg noodles. It didn’t taste bad, but I’m not sure I would order it again. Snap peas that came with it were super fresh and had a nice crunch though! I didn’t try the steak and eggs at the table, but I was told it was very good — steak was done perfectly! Go here for brunch, and make sure you order the bloody mary too! Made with yuzu and shochu :)

We rarely go out to eat, so I did some research and happily chose this place. We went at 5:30 on a Sunday and it was nearly empty. We were greeted by the owner, who told me my one year old son didn’t count as a person and insisted on seating us at a table for two. He also said there was no room for a high chair and handed me a booster seat to attach myself to a slatted, wobbly bench. Two families came in after us and were promptly given high chairs — I guess your kids only count as people when you have two of them. We ordered several appetizers so we could try as much as possible and asked the waiter to serve it in two shifts, which he did. However, before the second set came out, he asked us if we wanted the check. When we finally did want the check, we had to ask 4 times over the course of 25 minutes before we finally got it. We ordered the popcorn shrimp(excessively salty), the wings(ok), the truffle & parm fries(delicious), the baby bok choy(soggy). Needless to say, we will not be wasting another night out on this place. * * * Since I am not able to respond to the condescending comment left by the chef and owner, I have edited this review. Since the CHEF and OWNER cleverly uses his own picture in his profile, I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that it absolutely was him who told my husband and I that our son didn’t count as a person. While he is correct that the first review I wrote on Unilocal was for his restaurant, it was because I could not believe that we were treated so deplorably. I think his disgusting response perfectly proves my point about the reprehensible customer service at this place. And while he not so subtly attempts to call me a liar, let me be clear — every single thing I wrote in the review the first time around is 100% true. I will not be calling or returning because there are far better restaurants in this neighborhood, where we are welcomed and treated respectfully.

Every time I eat here, my stomach is always full and content. I’ve been to Hunger Pang a handful of times with my fiancé since we live nearby. I have never been disappointed. The last few times, I have ordered the«Pang fried noodles» with their 12 hour pork and I think that’s my go-to dish now! Try dousing it in their hot sauce. Yummmmm! Their menu changes from time to time but everything sounds so good. All the dishes that I’ve had are super fresh and flavorful. I love their popcorn shrimp and their pangry wings as a starter. I miss their spicy cucumbers though. I haven’t seen that on the menu recently. They started serving a draft beer(War Flag Pilsner) recently and also two soju cocktails. They also have outdoor seating that I have not seen yet but maybe I will when the weather gets warmer. The staff is always awesome even though I always see different people working there. It gets pretty busy on a Friday evening so get there at 6 pm when it opens so you are guaranteed a table!

I checked out this cozy place on my mother’s birthday. Luckily, my family and I were the only ones there for a majority of the time. The staff focused specifically on us and the service was smooth. For the appetizers, we tried the pangry wings, the salt and pepper popcorn shrimp, the parmesan fries, and the pork, chive & cheese dumplings. The appetizers were either a hit or miss. The only two worth remembering was the salt and pepper popcorn shrimp and the parmesan fries. The shrimp was the most satisfying because it had the juiciest flavors. The parmesan fries were crispy, delicious, and addicting! As for entrees, the best by far was the pang fried noodles. The noodles were crunchy, yet moist. The sauce was not too salty and was balanced out by both the shrimp and the citrus taste of the cilantro. The staff also surprised my mother with a free mini dessert and sang her Happy Birthday. They were open to anything we needed and were extremely friendly and attentive.

You gotta try the popcorn shrimp. Great Asian fushion; always switching up the specials and trying new combinations. I love the art, the great wait staff, and the fact that they are family-friendly even in a small space. I’m a fan!

If you like it spicy then this is definitely your place. It’s another lovely addition to the area, and totally worth coming here if you’re feeling adventurous. Small spot so don’t try coming with too many people. Service is great the people who work here are super nice. I hope more spots like this start popping up!

I’ve been to Hunger Pang 5 times in the last 6 months. That’s a lot for one restaurant and I’m surprised I’m just leaving a review now. I love the atmosphere here. Asian fusion with a funky Brooklyn vibe. My food recommendations are as follows: 1) The fries w/Sriracha mayo and Hoisin ketchup 2) Miso Steak 3) Crispy Noodle with shrimp 4) Pork bao These are not in a rating order, simply my top picks when I go in. If they offer the miso butter corn, GETTHATSHIT! It’s only on the menu now and then, but you need it.

Great asian fusion style restaurant. Tried a few appetizers and shared them with a friend. We tried the fried shrimp, bao buns, bok choy, and wings. They have two wings on the menu, we tried the classic wings with the citrus green sauce which was unbelievable. The fried shrimp is served with spicy mayo. The bok choy is served with a yummy honey ginger sauce. The bao buns were definitely my favorite here. Will be back for more buns!

This is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood and I haven’t had a better asian fusion style restaurant in Brooklyn! The waiter recommended the specials which included the shrimp with garlic chips which are super addictive. Also got the corn with delicious cheese and aioli sauce! The pork bum was the best thing I had! Everyone should try it! The bun is so soft, the sauce on the pork is amazing, and the pickled cucumber is a perfect refreshing bite! For dessert, had doughnuts and they were a bit sense but the caramel sauce was amazinggggg! I’ve been here 3 times and have had delicious food always! Good with friends and a but small so get reservations on the weekend!

Very nice ambience: lights are warming, small place maybe 8 tables in total that make the atmosphere very comfortable. The service was good and pretty fast. We were in two and it was a wednesday night. We order as an appetizer two pork buns and the bok choy that were delicious! Bok choy came with a so good asian style sauce and garlic chips. The pork buns with scallion and a sweet sauce. I took the duck in the pic, as you can see the cut is perfect and so the taste! Love also the pistachio granola, perfect match! My girlfriend took the jalapeño fried rice with chicken. It was a medium spicy rice, great combo of flavor and taste! Deff a must go in this area, everything was good, well presented and nice explanation of the menu. We’ll come back!

Loved the tempura salt and pepper shrimp with the garlic chips with thin slices of jalepeno. OMG the garlic chips are so addictive and add a nice crunch to the tempura. I had to ask for an extra side of garlic chips which they provided at no charge. Their Hunger Pang bao sliders with the Hunger Pang chili mayo, crispy pork belly and greens in an American Peking duck white bun was so addictive. The right amount of crunchiness, saltiness and chewiness. I also got the miso hanger steak with the fries. To be honest, I loved the fries more than the hanger steak. There’s something about the frying oil that adds additional depth and makes the fries crunchier than usual without it being a shoestring French fry. The hanger steak was moist, but the miso sauce although it was definitely miso flavored, only made the steak taste salty, but not unbearingly so since it was lightly put on. It would be best to ask for the miso sauce on the side to control the saltiness. For dessert we got the green tea brulee, which is the best I have ever had. It was lacking the crispy sugary top, but the rest of the custard had the right amount of matcha and was very creamy without being overly sweet.
