Honestly, the DISH was okay. I got their special short stack for brunch: peach pancakes. When it arrived on my table it seemed like it would taste good… but I was thrown off by the canned peaches sloppily splayed on my pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy. Also it took a long time to bring out my pancakes… like I think almost 20 minutes or so… that was a bummer. Also, I found a very tiny hair in my pancake. Just large enough so I could see it and feel a little queasy for the rest of the meal.

Had breakfast here today. I liked the cozy interior with brick walls and a roaring fireplace. Service was okay as was the food. I had the scrambled eggs with toast, hash browns,(which you can pop into the toaster at your table) and tasty bacon. Wish I had gone for the breakfast burrito as I’m sure that would have had a better blend of flavors. I didn’t care for my watery, not hot cappuccino(defintely not worth $ 4.50). Clientele seemed to lean towards the senior citizen set.

Dish is a great place to come cool off. The food is good and it’s easy to get to with plenty of side streets to get home comfortably. If you go to the bar and Jesse is there he will serve you right away and be attentive when you need another round, he is a great bar tender.

While we were there, enjoying our food, everything seemed like this would be a four or five star review … like the ones that led us to find this cute & quaint place in the first place. But alas, as time went on and our party discussed it more and more, I feel like this is just more of a solid three-star review. What brought it down was namely the service. Now, the food was excellent — the jambalaya or gumbo(can’t remember), the shrimp scampi(pricey but still satisfied my pasta craving), the burger & the breakfast platter that our table got were all excellent from start to finish. The lemonade was insanely sour, not even tart, so much so that none of us bothered to drink it, but we were willing to let it go. But the service … oh, the service. While we didn’t have to wait to be seated, we did have to wait some time for our drink order to be taken, and then for our food order to be taken. We then had to flag down people to get refills, only to flag down other people when those refills were forgotten. The staff were nice, but didn’t apologize for the lack of service, and we just felt overall forgotten. I’d like to give this place a shot again, but based off the vibes of our group, doubt that we’ll be giving this a second chance any time soon. Other things — parking was alright, one open spot when we arrived, although I can imagine it gets crowded during busy hours. Kids get crayons & doodle placemats, thoughtful for a smaller restaurant. Shabby chic ambience with plenty of morning light — great for family meals and maybe even a casual business meeting.

They have great food for reasonable prices but in my opinion what makes this place is the wait staff and their eagerness to overdeliver. My waitress was Amy and she made the night extra special. Bravo on a superb service

I love DISH, but Amy makes it the best! She’s friendly, helpful, and takes care of her customers. When she gets behind the bar, you know you’re going to end up with a great drink, too!

I had an excellent experience. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich that was very delicious, probably the best I have ever had. I was pleasantly surprised at the presentation and quality of the food. Our server’s name was Amy, she was attentive to myself and my family during our stay. She kept checking up on us and making sure everything was ok. She truly went above and beyond the call of duty, thank you Amy. I would definitely suggest anyone give this place a shot. The food was great and service was impeccable. I will be returning!

We have been coming to the Dish for years! Sonya is by far the best! She always welcomes us even if we are not in her section! Sonya goes above and beyond to serve all the patrons and she is to be commended for her excellent customer service! The food is spectacular, mimosas are great, but the service is awesome! Thank you Dish!!!

Went there for dinner last night on the advice of my co-worker. I had their cheeseburger. It was juicy and cooked nicely. The bun held up through the whole meal and didn’t fall apart like a lot of places. The toppings were good too. I don’t drink alcohol, but my friend did… And we met the bartender, Jesse. He was nice and knew his drinks. They weren’t watered down like some bars… According to my friend. The over-all atmosphere was good and I would recommend this place to everyone.

What an amazing Mom and Pop place. We stopped by here with a friend on our way to Pasadena. We were starving and really wanted to enjoy a meal and a drink. Really great comfort food, and my goodness was the service great. We sat at the bar, I have this thing about sitting at bars it’s a lot more comfortable. I ordered the chicken sandwich with a side of fries and a Manhattan. Not a lot of people know how to make a Manhattan, but Jesse the bartender with the good hair outdid himself. He made a really good Manhattan and not on your typical martini glass, he used a whiskey glass which really impressed me because most bars use martini glasses. He gave my friend and I excellent service. I would defiantly recommend this place to all my friends.

I came in last night with a co-worker… being on a diet is kinda hard to decide what to buy and eat at a restaurants. But, Farmer’s Market Chopped Vegetable Salad was just perfect for my calorie count and cheat day. The salad had mixed greens tossed with green dressing topped with corn, asparagus, snap peas, roasted peppers, diced tomato, cucumber, red onions and fresh basil. Just for under $ 12 and still had plenty leftovers to take home with me. Cheat day consists of one alcohol beverage! I was sitting in the bar area… I had the Pomegranate Cosmo it was on point! The service at the bar was great and welcoming! Jesse, thanks again for making this dinning experience excellent! I still need to come back and try their Breakfast Menu!!!

Really disappointing dinner there tonight, perhaps they were understaffed etc as we have had better experiences there. The food was really slow and my friends sandwich the chicken was burned. Even though the food was slow, the service felt rushed like they were trying to get us out of there.

Back at DISH for another great meal after a long week. Tonight: the blue cheese crusted filet of sole and a delicious wedge salad! Yum! I also love the lemon-drop martini here. The waitstaff(like Amy D) gives you lots of TLC and of course, you are right near Descanso Gardens. This is a favorite for years and glad this classic is still going strong.

Never coming back again! I have been here for dinner a few times(and even for my birthday) with my family and always had a good experience. Unfortunately my experience last night deserves 1 star. I came with my mother for some quality time and also we had a buy one get one free coupon. When the hostess brought us our water it tasted like soap and that the water had not been filtered. We both ordered cheeseburgers which took over 20 minutes to arrive; they were dry and adding sauce to it did not help. Also, our waitress smelled like she had just smoked weed so that was disgusting! Never coming back again!

On March 24 my mother and I went to lunch at Dish. We both ordered the fried chicken salad, my son was with us and had the grilled cheese sandwich. When the salad arrived, I found my chicken to be off-color, with an odd slippery texture. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that a fold in the chicken was sticky. This fold was in nearly every piece of chicken on my plate. I wasn’t sure if this was a bit of fat that caused it to be this way, but I was turned off and pushed the chicken to the side. I ate the avocado and a bit of the salad, but found the tomatoes to be flavorless mushy, so instead I ate my son’s sandwich as he was not hungry. My mother did eat a good amount of her salad. When it came time to leave, she took the remainder of her salad as well as all of mine to go, including the chicken. She then ate the salad and chicken for dinner that night. The next morning my mother woke up violently ill. She was dizzy and weak and vomited. She felt awful and had a terrible headache for the rest of the day. We’ve both been to Dish a number of times(though not in the last year or so) and have always had a good experience. Because of this, I tried to contact restaurant management TWICE about this incident but have not gotten any response. This lack of concern almost bothers me more than the rotten chicken.

I received a response from the owner regarding my previous review(below). My response to the owner, regarding his response, is as follows: Response to Dish B of DISH(Business Owner): 1. As Eric J, fellow Unilocaler, points out(among at least four others who have left you one-star reviews for similar issues), when you purchased the business from the previous owners, you purchased the past debts as well as the future profits of the company. In this case, the debt is in the form of a legally purchased gift certificate — not a «fraudulent» one as you implied in your response. Being a «different company» does not get you off the hook, either legally, or in terms of basic good business practice. The former owners, having sold their business to you, are no longer responsible for any debts incurred during the period of their ownership — you are. 2. You claim that you«politely and professionally explained» the situation to me. You were not present for the conversation. I assure you, in my opinion, we were treated neither«politely» or «professionally.» 3. You stated«If you contact us directly, we would love to earn your business and try to accommodate you and make you happy.» I have already sent two emails to info@dishbld with«To the Owner» in the subject line; one polite one, and one slightly more forceful one — do you check your email? I even indicated in my second email that I wouldn’t write anything on Unilocal for two weeks pending your response. I didn’t hear from you until I actually wrote you up on Unilocal. 4. It is too late to make me happy. You could have made me happy by honoring the gift certificate, just once, as I asked. You could have made me happy by agreeing to speak with me when I asked the manager if that were possible. You could have made me happy by responding to my emails. As it was, you chose to do none of those things — in fact, I never heard from you until I posted my review on Unilocal. 5. My wife and I used to eat at DISH perhaps 6 – 8 times per year. Average check: $ 60.00. $ 60 X 6/yr = $ 360 net loss for your establishment, not to mention any other business lost due to negative feedback. I hope it was worth it for $ 25. At any rate, I’m done with this now — there are many other establishments out there deserving of my business, and as I stated in my initial review, I prefer to write reviews for businesses that please me, not waste my time writing about those that don’t.

DISH is amongst my favorite go to restaurants near home for comfort food! The menu is very american, BLT sandwiches, delicious burgers, salads, pastas, and soups. I mainly go in for their milkshakes & fries! SODELICIOUS, I tend to ask for seconds to go!

I enjoyed Dish, but I think they really need to work on their service. After skimming a few reviews, I realized that this has been an ongoing problem– though some people had worse experiences than I did. The whole restaurant experience felt like a very delayed process. It took a long time for the server to get to our table to take the order, it took a long time for the food to get out, we were never checked on… even the bill took a long time to get! Nevertheless, Dish is truly a home-y environment that serves a lot of traditional American foods. However, I have to admit that they’re a bit pricey for what you get; but granted they try to use organic/free-range foods. I got a cheeseburger and it came out to be pretty massive. I’m still not sure if it was worth the money because it was set at a gourmet price. Flavor-wise, it was decent, and probably an above average cheeseburger. I also got a side of sweet potato fries. Unfortunately, these fries were pretty floppy and weren’t too appealing. There’s nothing too much to rave about this place, but the food isn’t bad. I’d say the only downside is the price and the service. It’s definitely still a nice sit-down restaurant that makes you feel at home. However, I’d be willing to come back to try some of their brunch/breakfast foods!

Overall, I loved how different this restaurant was from the other ones in this area. It’s more of a «home-y» vibe where when you walk in, it looks like you’re walking into eat brunch at your grandmas house. Mismatching furniture and small accents of vintage décor pieces completed the look. Somewhat of a «rustic» touch adds comfort and peacefulness which is exactly how I want to feel on a Sunday! I came here for brunch with my cousin(who recommended this place) who has lived in this area for so long and had still not tried it yet. So we went to give it a try. I immediately noticed their menu included a large selection of specialty mimosas and I just HAD to try one! I tried their peach and it was delicious! They also had strawberry, pomegranate to name a few. My cousin tried their special of the day which was pancakes topped with strawberries and cream which smelled and tasted fantastic. I had to pick off his plate: P I got the Eggs Florentine with a side of Hash Browns. I loved that there was an overload of sauce and the eggs were poached to perfection. The hash browns were super crispy and I got hints of butter. Absolutely the best eggs florentine I’ve tried! Food alone, I’d give 5⁄5 stars! The only things I noticed was there were flying bugs on the inside nearby where I was sitting which made me uncomfortable. My cousin said it was a termite ant? Never seen one before but I, personally, hate bugs and insects! I just tried to ignore it, and just slightly ruined my experience there. But other than that, everything was amazing. This place is a must try if you’re looking to eat brunch or want to go on a foodie adventure! Parking was easy(private lot on the side). The wait was not too long(approx. 10 mins). Staff and service was amazing. Enjoy!~

No reasons not to give it a 5. Came here for Happy Hour and it was truly one of the best in the La Cañada area. Why? $ 5 happy hour menu featuring Moscow Mules, Martinis & amazing appetizer selections. Will definitely be coming back!
