Barleycorns is a staple for me. You can always count on them for an inexpensive place to catch a game and chug some beers. They’ve gone a slightly new direction and stepped up their vibe a little, which is refreshing. They’ve got pretty new menus and tasty new fries, but never fear you can still get your favorite doc style wings and buffalo tenders.

The smoking in your restaurant is disgusting, please get with the times. Cannot believe you expect people to eat and enjoy themselves under those conditions.

I would agree the corn is not about fine dining. However the food is consistent well prepared and promptly served. The chicken salad on a pretzel bread is delightful and highlighted with a side of fresh made Saratoga chips. Quality prepared hamburgers are also a staple give this place a try you’ll like it

Our waitress and the bartender were both very nice. Our drinks were cheap. And they have really good queso dip, the rest of the food was nothing special. I think it’s a typical bar where you can throw back a few and hangout. The crowd there seemed pretty laid back and respectable. I’d definitely go back.

If you want to watch the game, it’s a good place. If you want good food while you’re watching the game … Ehhhh, not so much. Standard bar food. Hamburgers are usually dry(or the two I’ve tried). The appetizers seem straight out of the freezer bag. I’ve gone here twice in the last 8 months or so and each time I have left thinking, «oh yeah, that’s why I don’t go here».

The reason for 2 stars = my Doc style wings(4 stars) were great! Crunchy dry rub exterior — tender on the inside with lots of chicken meat. My husband got the shaft. He ordered the Pastrami Reuben with a side of pasta salad(1 star). No flavor whatsoever on both menu items. Sandwich was flat and came out way too quickly from the kitchen to be freshly made(dining room was not very crowded so kitchen should have been able to make meals to order). Pasta salad REALLY lacked flavor. Will likely not come back to this location. Very smoky atmosphere and, for the experience, on the expensive side($ 100 w/tip for 2 ppl — appetizer, wings, sandwich and 5 drinks total). Lakeside Park is a much better location for atmosphere.

I love this place — BUT not after 10p. The smoking is horrible — can’t breathe!!! Please make it smoke-free around the clock!!!

My family loves coming here when we all go out with grandparents and extended family. I’ve tried multiple things from the menu throughout these visits. Nothing has tasted like it should, and I’ve actually not ordered the last couple of times we’ve gone. It’s honestly just gross food. I’m not sure why this place is so popular among Northern Kentucky-ers. The service is great, and always has been, but next to the food, it doesn’t really matter how nice you are if your customers are spitting food into their napkins.

Let first start w the positives the location is very clean location. Plenty of parking. The bar is very nice looking bar with enough seating. The hostess was very friendly. Our waitress was very nice and attentive to our needs. I didn’t have to ask for a refill. The reason I didn’t give a 5 is solely food quality. We got the stuffed mushrooms which was the worst app I’ve ever seen! The mushrooms just had cheese very little meat at all. They was served in bowl of hot butter it looked more like a soup. Soup spoon did come with it. I tried one and it was nasty. I said let me give one more try. It was completely gross w the butter lack of stuffing. Server was nice when I told her about it. I thought they made a mistake w the soup of butter but she said that’s how they serve them. Wow! I said you should have your manager try it. Entrée came I got a burger which tasted like a meatloaf sandwich. Didn’t taste fresh. Management did take care of the app on the bill which is good. Service was outstanding. It’s a shame the food wasn’t up to par. If a manager is reading this please eat the stuff mushrooms in bowl of butter and you see if it edible? Rethink the way you serve it. Great place for drinks and if you want to watch sports. I hope this is helpful

Let me start off by saying this was my first, and consequently last, trip to a Barleycorns. The service is lackluster at best. The wait staff hands you food and drinks over a frigging banister rather than walking to the table. The menu is pretty thin, we tried to substitute salad for baked potatoes– nope, just add on and up charge. We asked to remove onions from entrée, but they came with it anyway. Ordered steamed vegetables, they came to the table nearly raw. The only way to steam them LESS would be to just run them under hot tap water. All around poor dining experience.

This place was nothing special. Typical mediocre burgers. I asked for a medium cooked burger and it came back well done. They served me a diet coke with food floating in it. Not very good at all.

We love the wings! They make them very crispy and there’s no question if they are done. We’ve also tried nachos, con queso and fried pickles for apps. Would definitely recommend giving them a try!

Unfortunately, this place is getting a bad rap because they still allow smoking in a designated area. I’M NOT A SMOKER, but if this business owner wants to allow his customers to smoke on his premises — it’s his right. Don’t like it? There are plenty of other options in Northern Kentucky. The nanny state in this Country is out-of-control,

I am giving this place 5 stars and it’s all for the best bartender in Northern Kentucky. Shi is absolutely the highlight of Barleycorns! She knows how to make a drink! I highly recommended giving this place a try and asking for Shi! Do it right Meow.

Let me first begin by saying we had not been to Barleycorn’s for over 20 years. I remembered the restaurant as smoky, with boring frozen bar food. I am now a fan. Sunday we were going to Cincinnati for lunch, and looking for something different. Traffic was slow and go on the intersate, so we got off on Dixie Highway. We were trying to figure out where to go as we were approaching Barleycorn’s. we decided to stop there on a whim. Am I glad we did. We were quickly seated and our server met us for our drink order. While we were waiting for our tea, I noticed the menu was more interesting than I remembered. When our server returned she advised us of the daily specials. The soup was a white bean with ham and the brunch special was a breakfast wrap. She explained what was in the burrito and that the soup was homemade. I ordered a bowl of soup, and at the last minute decided to add the stuffed mushroom appetizer. My husband ordered the pot roast. The mushrooms were the best stuffed mushrooms I have ever had, and I love mushrooms in any fashion! They are stuffed with the spinach artichoke dip and covered(loaded) with Parmesan and then broiled. DONOTMISSTHESTUFFEDMUSHROOMS. The soup was very good, and obviously home made. My husband enjoyed his pot roast, and said he would definately order it again.(high praise!) But wait, this is a review for the us 42 store? well, since we were so impressed on Sunday that we went to the restaurant on 42 last night. The parking lot was very busy, the outside seating was full, but the inside was pretty open. This time I ordered the shrimp basket and my husband ordered the DOC style wings. YUM! While the jumbo they use to describe the shrimp is up for debate, the flavor was obvious. The DOC wings are fried, then sauced, then refried. The result is more like a dry rub, spicy but not too spicy, not greasy and not messy. I believe the wings were fresh instead of frozen. DONOTMISSTHEDOCWINGS! I chatted a little with our server. She said they are trying new menu items now all of the time. The new executive chef is introducing more homemade items and all of the dessert offerings are home made. Kudos! I am excited to try more offerings from Barlecorns, and will be glad to battle the parking lot in Florence!

This is the second time I have gone here for dinner. The first time they still allowed smoking inside and that ruined the entire meal. My wife told me they only allow smoking outside so we went this week and also brought along my mom who was visiting. With my mom along, we had to do the early bird and arrived right at 5 pm. It wasn’t crowded at all and we were seated quickly, though right next to the front door where a group of employees were wrapping up silverware at the hostess desk. This allowed us to hear a bunch of snarking about others who worked there, they even bad-mouthed another employee right after she left helping them to wait on another table. They have a large selection of drinks, appetizers and main courses. Our drink order was taken after our server explained what the happy-hour deals were and they were promptly brought back and we asked for a few more minutes to look over the menu. I ordered the taco salad with beef, $ 8.99(with chicken it is $ 9.95). My wife ordered the chicken salad on a Servatii pretzel roll with Saratoga chips and my mom got the Chipotle Ranch Chicken Wrap with a side of sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries are considered an upgrade and are 45 cents more than the normal selection of chips, pasta salad, fruit coleslaw or applesauce. Even regular fries are an extra 45 cents. Your only choices to sweeten your drink are Sweet-n-low or sugar. I prefer Equal for the flavor and how evenly it mixes. I attempted to use sugar but all the sugar packs were solid and I tried some at an empty table behind us and they too were unusable. I should have asked but instead went with the Sweet-n-low. The meals arrived fairly quickly and my salad looked good. I ordered it with ranch dressing but could see none. I started in on it and it didn’t take long to figure out that they went really skimpy on the beef. There was less than you would find in a single regular taco at Taco Bell. It was pretty much a salad with ten tortilla chips around the outside edge. The salsa that is served with it had nice spice to it but was basically sauce. There were not chunks of anything in it and there was enough for a bowl of chips but since there were only the ten around the salad bowl it went for naught. I finally found the ranch dressing in the bottom of the bowl. It actually appeared they poured in the dressing and built the salad on top of it. Over all it was very bland and the lack of beef made it overpriced. The wrap my mom received was quite large and she only ate half. She said it was pretty good and it appeared pretty meaty. Her sweet potato fires were limp on the full sized ones and overdone on the nubby ones. My wife’s chicken salad looked good but was also a little short on chicken salad. It was obviously half of a scoop since it still had the scoop shape and didn’t cover half of the pretzel roll. She said both were tasty and her Saratoga chips were crisp and she received a sufficient amount. I tried one with their barbecue sauce which we both felt was a little sweet for our taste. We both prefer a bolder barbeque sauce. Overall the service was good, our server was friendly and she checked on us just the right amount. The food for two of our meals seemed over priced for what we received though Mom seemed happy. This Barleycorn’s also have a couple of games toward the back of the restaurant and there were a couple of young kids running wild back and forth from them to their parents outside. A restaurant like this doesn’t need an area like that and it would be less annoying to others if their parents were not so busy drinking and smoking outside to allow them to control the kids. Though this restaurant is close to the house there are too many others with better food at this price we will frequent.

Considering I grew up in Northern Kentucky, I have fond memories of going to Barleycorn’s when I was a kid. So I eagerly suggested getting take-out from this Barleycorn’s location when I was visiting over the weekend, but I really wish I would have left Barleycorn’s happily in my past. I ordered the Wildcat sandwich, which includes a crispy fried chicken patty in medium buffalo sauce, topped with mushrooms, cheddar cheese and bleu cheese dressing. I ordered this sandwich without the cheddar cheese, though. And what I received was a chicken patty that seemed way over-processed. The consistency was very tough. It took some work to bite through it, and when I did the chicken would come apart not where I was biting down, if that makes any sense. It just seemed really unnatural. The buffalo sauce didn’t have much of a taste to it, and the mushrooms were tiny and also not flavorful — as if they had been sitting in a can for too long. As you can imagine, I did not finish my sandwich. My boyfriend and his family were not as unimpressed with their meals as I was with mine, though the consensus was that Barleycorn’s food isn’t anything special. I doubt I will suggest going back.

You’ll do. When in need of a broad and general menu, Barleycorn’s will suffice. They were open late. The service was on top of it the whole time, but they have the originality of a Friday’s, Applebee’s, Shenanigans, or Flingers. I feel like these places are a dime a dozen. Barleycorn’s is like that hookup with any random chick that you need after a big breakup. Barleycorn’s, you’ll do.

It has a nice big space and even a patio if the weather is just right. The servers were very good at checking on us. The chicken salad on a pretzel bun and sweet potato fries were very delicious. The only negative was they sat us by the bar where someone was smoking. I prefer not to smell smoke while eating.
