Sitting on the first floor of an otherwise main-stream shopping mall, Cosmic’s is the snarling punk rocker loafing in the corner, who mocks Abercrombie clad passersby. Here, the music’s too loud and unintelligible and their selection of brash t-shirts, accessories, and hoodies would make most grandmothers cringe. Cosmic is really a higher end, better merchandised Hot Topic. Less gothic, more skater-chic. With skater kicks, boards, posters, belt buckles, badges, buttons, and any other accoutrements a cooler-than-thou hipster would need to complete their anti-image, Comic fulfills a niche for disenchanted high-schoolers. So why do I shop there? I have zero punk-rock cred, as I enter the store with my stroller and mom jeans. But, hey, they carry Element and Hurley brand clothes and their hoodies are some of the best on the market. Plus, I got them on sale for 50% off! Honestly, the Cosmic crew didn’t make me feel too out of place… just like an older sister who can’t hang anymore.
