The first few experiences with this restaurant were very good. Lunch today, however, was disappointing. We ordered seafood portabella. The mushroom was good but we couldnt find evidence of the seafood… certainly not as described on the menu. Our plates were not warmed. In fact, they were ice cold which meant that our warm meal quickly became unappetizingly cool. The service is good; the facility is nice, but the quality of the food seems to be slipping. Would be nice to have bread before or with the meal. We were told that bread was not available.

Food is very good. If you like shrimps and oysters, they do them as good as anyone in New Orleans. Service is excellent and the shrimp po boy with the Gambino bread is superb. If the restaurant has a weakness, it would be in their drink making. They use small shot glasses and small drink glasses and the drinks are very weak. If you’re looking for a strong drink here, you won’t find it. Go to Table 100 or Amerigo for that treat!

This is my first time eating at the Half Shell Oyster House. We had a party of Six. We got their at noon on a Saturday and were seated very quickly. Our waitress took our drink orders and got three wrong, but quickly corrected it, this accounts as part of not getting five star rating. We came to try the seafood. Many orders were placed: Royal Reds, Parmesan Potatoes, asparagus, charbroiled oysters, fried oysters, fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, voodo shrimp, New Orleans shrimp, and salads. We sampled each other’s dishes and had a lot of variety. After all the samples our favorites were New Orleans shrimp, fried oysters, and Parmesan potatoes all the other dishes were good but these were the picks. When we left the place was full and the lines were backed up out the door to getting in. I say if you want some decent seafood around the Flowood area give it a try.

The food was mediocre and our server, Mitch, was arrogant and seemed quite put out that he had to even take our order. His service was slow and sullen. Will not take any guests there again.

Excellent food! Great poboys using fresh Gambini bread! Grilled oysters are really good! Lunch menu is priced very well! The negative is very weak drinks! You don’t want to order a mixed drink here if you want to taste your boos! Stick with the food!!!

Waitress was great. Oyster sampler was great. REDFISHORLEANSWASDRIEDOUT. Like leather dried. Manager explained that it varies by the shipment of fish. Unfortunately it’s not a issue of fish quality, but simply an overcooked fish. Even if it is poor quality of fish, why would the shipment not be refused? He offered us a different fish, but never said that it was their fault it was overcooked. The customer must not be right to him. Did not accept the offer for them to cook another filet. 2 of us ordered this inedible $ 26 piece of fish.

The oysters are good. The Red Shrimp are good. The drinks are good. Everything else is nothing to write about! They should drop a lot of menu items and add more seafood

Wow worth the wait! Been here twice only got in once but I’m glad we waited. Both of us had the lunch portion of blackened grouper. Very nice piece of perfectly cooked fish. I had the greens and they were good and my husband had fries. And well they were fries. But the fish stood our. Our appetizer was fried crab claws. I liked them he thought they were just ok. Server was friendly, all around good experience. If we stay in town a little while we will definitely be back.

I can’t say enough, how ecstatic I am, that they are now in this part of MS! Great atmosphere, love the bar, the food is so phenomenal and the service has been great here so far, too… based on my four visits since they’ve opened their Flowood location. I usually visit when I go home to the MS Gulf Coast & both are really great. I left a tip on the oysters, but go for the oyster sampler plate for a nice variety. The pasta is good & my friends adore their shrimp & grits. I’ll definitely be a regular

If your specialty is oysters, own it. In this case, they were so small that our server offered to bring us a few more without us having to ask. My tuna was overcooked, but the second time around it was cooked perfectly! Steak was also made very well. Side dishes were all very greasy, too heavy or too salty so we barely touched our sides. Crab bisque was delicious, gumbo I didn’t care for. Service was slow, but our server was polite and got what we weren’t satisfied with corrected.

The food here was amazing. We started with The Oyster Sampler($ 18) as an appetizer. Really good, but the oysters were tiny. Maybe it’s the time of the year. My husband had the Seafood Pasta and it was loaded with seafood and had a fabulous sauce. He said it was the best he ever had. I had the Seafood Platter(Grilled). It was excellent. The Asparagus as my side was really good stuff as well. Our only complaint was the service. It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great either. Not what you would expect from a restaurant of this quality. Our bill for brunch for two with an appetizer and a Mimosa was $ 91 before tip. A little pricey, but OMG good food.

I had a great lunch experience on my first trip. I sat at the bar, solo on a busy Friday. First come seating was tight but fine. I ordered a nice Mississippi micro brew, Royal Reds and Parmesan new potatoes off the lunch menu. The Reds were steamed just right and the potatoes were perfect. My service was great. I can’t wait to go back and beat up some seafood I think it is much better than Dragos. Seasoned but not salted. Give it a whirl

Great food. My wife and I ordered seafood pasta and blackened redfish. The food was prepared excellent. For starters we had a bowl of gumbo and oysters sampler — perfect. The sampler was really great. We will definitely be back! The service was good, but not perfect. Very friendly staff and professional. They were very busy but still was a little off, plus our server seemed a little absent minded. Had to ask for a few things twice before he brought us what we asked for. Oh and my wife found a pearl!!!

Nothing special. I have to say I was disappointed in both food and service. It paled in comparison to the other great seafood restaurants around Jackson. I took four people out to eat for lunch on a Saturday. Our experience started off as a comedy but didn’t end with us laughing. When we walked in, there were three hostesses working the desk who were completely overwhelmed, although there was only one other small group waiting for seating(despite about half the tables in the restaurant appearing open). One hostess asked us four separate times how many were in our party although she wrote that number down when we checked in. She then handed me an electronic pager that immediately began to buzz about 30 seconds after she placed in my hand — which I then handed back to her and followed her to our table. Things went from funny to bad once we were seated. Our server acted as if she would rather be somewhere else(and made us wish we had gone somewhere else for lunch). When our order arrived, two items were not what we ordered. Although these mistakes were corrected, we had to wait while the kitchen prepared the correct menu items. When they finally arrived, everyone else’s food at the table was cold. Perhaps the delay would have been shorter if the server was the one who delivered the food to the table or was present when the food arrived in order to check on things. The food is mediocre at best and the fish on all four of our orders was overcooked and dry as if it had sat under heat for too long after being plated. My grouper was so overcooked that it was a chewy consistency of rubber. We thought about sending it all back, but decided to cut our losses and swear to never return. The only real plus Half Shell has over other seafood restaurants is a variety of choices in side dishes. However, the selection of sides doesn’t overcome the restaurant’s other flaws.

Welcome to Flowood. Dinner tonight I had combo poboy. Just average and not worth the $ 12 price tag. The garlic roasted potatoes are not good at all. Partner had seafood sampler and he said that it was very good. Also had oysters Orleans and they were the best I have ever had. We will give them another try!

Still working out the kinks… Saturday date night. Game day. Olé miss on some of the flat screens. Hostess misprogrammed the check-in device and sat three tables before us so we waited an hour and a half to be seated. Apologized after we asked what was happening. Server didn’t introduce himself but was otherwise prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. We had: Oysters on the Half Shell — only Gulf Oysters available — very flavorful, fresh; more variety at Saltines. Charbroiled Oysters — Delicious on par with New Orleans ACME and Felix Royal Reds — Amazing, a must try if you haven’t; half pound Starter could be a meal. Big Easy Surf and Turf — Ordered medium rare filet and came out rare; still tender and delicious; small crab cake and pieces of lump crab meat made a fine trio. Sides: Jalapeño Huspuppies were quality with just a little kick; Sweet Potato Crème Brulee is so good you’ll wonder why everyone doesn’t make them this way. Coco runner tastes like a delicious Pina Colada from Cancun. Strange things: — Manager refused to change television from State game to Olé Miss game which might be a pro or con depending on who you cheer for but I thought the customer was always right. — Manager didn’t do a table stop so we couldn’t tell him that. — The back room seemed to be a bit more ethnic then the front of the house but this could have been just a fluke in how tables were sat.

I just had lunch at the new location in Flowood, MS. This is as good as their locations on the coast. The service was prompt, courteous, and friendly. The staff has good knowledge of all dishes on the menu. I would recommend you do an oyster sampler plate if you have not eaten her before. You get three oysters of each of the following: Charbroiled, Oyster Orleans, Bienville, and Rockefeller. I was able to sample on of their many cocktails and the bar tender did a great job on their version of a Long Island. I look forward to returning many times.
