Pros: close to 7 train, large quantity of food, cheap wine and beer, spicy and flavorful food, quick service Cons: some food can be too spicy, lacks distinguishing flavors Overall: a great place to eat some Asian spicy food but beware of any dish in spicy oil

First off, the service must be noted. When you order your food, a few minutes later your dish seemingly appears. If you finish a glass, it gets whisked away. Even a gently used napkin will be removed without you ever realizing it was there. They might not speak the best English, but they understand you. Now for the food. As a big fan of Little Pepper in College Point, it’s the place that set the standard high for myself. As for Szcheuan House? Cheap dinner eats($ 16.50 for two entrees, soup, and rice). Spicy, tongue numbing(no joke) flavors. Peppery shrimp and soft fish filet coated in decadent hot oil. And my friend said his chicken was soft, almost slow cooked. and the lamb was melt in your mouth. And top it off? They poured 1.5 glass of Red, no questions asked! So why the 4 stars? Because the food, while tasty, doesn’t transport you. You feel like you’re tackling spicy food, rather than savoring. You’ll feel the heat but wonder if it’s a smokescreen for depth of taste. The leftovers are plentiful, but why doesn’t it leave me wanting more? Would I come back here? Yes! Easy to get to by train. Great prices. Service that changes your expectation. But great food? The king is still Little P.

Really damn good Sichuan food and offers all the classics. We came as a group of four and pretty much ordered all the famous dishes one can think of in Sichuan cuisine– fuqi feipian, liang fen, spicy fish, drunken chicken, etc. It was all delicious and came out super fast. If you’re not a fan of super spicy food… definitely don’t go here, but if you must MAKESURE you order some non-spicy items off the menu so you can actually eat something. Telling them to make it «less spicy» is useless.

Hands down best authentic Szechuan place in NYC. From Szechuan myself, I have been going there with my wife for the past 3 years. Never disappointed. Must have: JiangBei Sliced Fish

There’s nothing special at this place, food is plain and service is poor. Been waiting for a course for a hour and they finally told us that it’s been sold out when we asked them where’s our last course.

We have dined all over flushing and consider ourselves pretty much experts on Szechuan cuisine… this place is definitely rates a high five stars. went for dinner and had the cold rabbit with red chili sauce… One of the best appetizers we’ve had in a long time… make sure to get it with a bowl of white rice to soak up some of the Ma la(spicy) flavor… Next came the sautéed lotus root sliced a little bit too thick, but absolutely delicious. Finally we tried the lamb with peppercorns… it was an interesting dish. The broth as had a slightly sour taste, not sure if that was coming from vegetable or a spice. the portions were extremely generous and we still can’t believe we ate it all Next to us groups were enjoying hot pot but we think you need a crowd of at least four as the portions were huge.

I came here with my family for Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner this past Sunday. I wanted to go somewhere good and affordable and based on the reviews I read, Szechuan House seems promising. One of the pros about this place is that they take reservations and credit cards. Many Chinese restaurants, especially in neighborhoods like Flushing and Chinatown usually do not take reservations/credit cards. This was a plus for us since we were a group of 10 people. I got there late so some people had already ordered appetizers which were on the way. When I got there, I ordered the wonton in spicy sauce dish that I was really looking forward to because I had them before at a restaurant in Chinatown and it was yummy. The wontons took a really long time to arrive and we were getting anxious about putting the rest of our order in. When we called our waiter to place the rest of our order, he responded rudely. He said that it was busy because of Chinese New Year and we should have placed our order all at once instead of in pieces. Never have I ever had a problem with this before so this was shocking to all of us. He implied that my spicy wonton order was the issue. I had to apologize to the table for ordering it. This didn’t start off well already but let me just move on to the foods before my temper boils again. For appetizers, we had the fried dumplings and scallion pancakes. They were okay — nothing extraordinary. For our main dishes, we had the Chogqing chicken, Fish Fillets with Peppercorn, Fried Rice, Sauteed Snow Peas, Beef Shank with Bean Curd, and Frogs with Pickled Peppers. Out of all, my favorite would have to be the Sauteed Snow Peas, which is interesting because I normally prefer meat over veggies. The Chogqing chicken and the fish fillets were good but thanks to the famous Szechuan peppers, my tongue was numbed and tingly. I know this is to be expected but it was overwhelming. Also, most of the foods were very salty. The fried rice was very good, though. My grandmother who has missing teeth in the front was able to enjoy it so that’s a plus. For their decent food quality and portions, Szechuan House prices can’t be beat. There were 9 of us and total came to be $ 115 including taxes. This was another plus! The décor was also more on the modern side, not like one of those hole in the wall places. They also have hot pot here with a condiment station but we did not try it.

Really good Szechuan food. My favorites were the pork with leeks and Mapo Tofu. Many of the dishes have the numbing Szechuan peppercorns which are good– but if you eat too many can mask the flavor of the dishes.

This was my first time at Szechuan House which is conveniently located 2 blocks from the 7 train or 1 block from Main St. The owner was very friendly and nice. Turns out they have been operating for over 25+ years with the same chef! That is an unbeatable record! Even though the owner himself is from Hong Kong; his main chef is from Szechuan. The price of the food was also very reasonable(~$ 5−8/dish). Please check out their lunch specials which is only $ 5.50 with soup or dinner special of $ 16.95 for two dishes with soup. The owner offered us chow peanuts/cold vegetables because they don’t serve dinner special soup on the weekends. Their lunch special list is very extensive with almost all authentic szechuan dishes(such as beef/lamb/fish in peppercorn). If you are looking for American Chinese food(General Tso chicken), this is really not the place to come to.
I ordered 7 dishes. Four of them were from the dinner special. The portions were really generous! 1. Beef tendon appetizer — the tendon was a bit soft because it was served warm. If you prefer a crunchier version, then you will have to stick it in the fridge for a while. Otherwise, the spices were authentic and strong. It is mildly spicy with a strong numbing effect from the pepper corn. It was sensational! Exactly how I imagine it. 2. Fish & tofu in peppercorn(came with pint of rice separately) — Again, very strong szechuan spices. Less numbing in this dish vs the tendon, but still amazing. The fish was perfectly cooked with the right timing. The tofu was super soft yet it still holds its form very well. It was not crushed into tiny pieces. In addition, all the spices in this dish and the beef dish below are finely grinded. You will not choke on whole peppercorns or have to dig for your beef. 3. Shredded beef and hot pepper(came with pint of rice separately) — I’m not a big fan of green pepper, but my friend wanted to order this. However, it was also very tasty. The beef was marinated well and the texture was perfect. There was a hint of wok hay in the dish and the pepper complemented the beef very well. For this dish, you might want to eat it in house to preserve the freshness/color of the pepper. 4. Tea smoked pork with leek(came with pint of rice separately) — This is the szechuan version of bacon! They smoke the bacon wrapped in tea leaves and then thinly slice it. This is such a genius idea. The smokiness of the bacon fat + tea leaves. yummy! My only issue was there was too much leek pieces and i’m not a big fan. Otherwise, another winner! Can’t wait to try the tea smoked duck. 5. Sauteed squash home style(came with pint of rice separately) — I get this dish at every szechuan restaurant because i love squash. This dish was a no fail also. The skin was fully pealed. It taste very good and very generous portions compare to other restaurants. It was also perfectly cooked(not over cooked/under cooked). Perfect dish to cool down the spices. 6. Beef in peppercorn — slices of marinated beef in chili oil, peppercorn, and szechuan spices on top of bean sprouts and nappa cabbage. The beef is yummy tender. The spices were powerful and the taste lingers on your tongue hours later… Heavenly~ 7. Hot and Sour Soup — Slightly too salty for my liking. However they have all the correct ingredients that I LOVE in good portions. Wood ear, enoki mushroom, tofu slices, and no meat. This is definitely an authentic Szechuan restaurant. Reading a lot of comments below, I realize that many people associate Szechuan cuisine with very spicy food, which is NOT true. Szechuan cuisine uses a lot of szechuan spices such as chili oil, peppercorn, etc but it is not necessarily very spicy. I have been to many Szechuan restaurants or those that claim to be. Yes, they serve very spicy food but they do not use the correct or even ANY of the Szechuan spices. If you want very spicy food here, you must request it separately! There is nothing grand or fancy about this restaurant. Some might even classify this as a hole in wall. The servers may not be as professional as a five star restaurant, but their smiles are definitely genuine. They will chat with you as if you were a long lost friend, making you feel right at home. This is truly a family style restaurant. If you are looking for something fancy. This is not the right restaurant for you. If you enjoy the pure deliciousness of fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. This is the spot for you. If you enjoy the mix of szechuan spices tingling on your tongue hours later after your meal. This is definitely the right spot for you.

####The waiter that I had is pictured from 3 years ago so I don’t think there is new ownership#### This place was amazing! I had the Hot and Sour soup, which I’ve had many places, and this was the best I’ve had by far. I also had sliced beef in Szechuan sauce and it was truly amazing! The service was friendly and prompt, what more could you ask for?

Fried shrimp with hot sauce was good. There were some nuts on it so strong savory stimulated my appetite. However, noodle issues… Soup was not thick enough to satisfy my stomach after greasy American food. Nonetheless, I will give it 4 stars b/c staffs were so kind and… I think the problem was my choice. The food on other tables(especially the tables occupied by Chinese people) looked good. Next time when I come here again, I have to roll my eyes to catch up the most popular foods.

Came here with a large group — two tables of eight each. Everyone at our table enjoyed the food, including those who never had Szechuan cuisine before. I like spicy food and hadn’t had Szechuan in a while so I was glad my friend was coordinating a dinner here. I am posting a few pictures of dishes we enjoyed. We had fish, chicken(the fried chicken was like a spicy popcorn chicken and was to die for!), cucumber appetizer(not spicy, delicious), dan dan noodles app(some of the best I’ve ever had), lamb, water spinach(not spicy, just cooked with garlic)… etc. It is Flushing so give time for parking and traffic. Most people parked at the mall on college point to take advantage of free 3 hour parking, but I was lucky enough to be able to avoid the traffic there by finding street parking. Great food, great price, if you like spicy food you have to check it out! Since of our group came from south shore Long Island, a couple from NJ, and they didn’t regret the trip!

I’m a regular. The restaurant specialized in Szechuan cuisine(which means spicy food), but they also serve very good non spicy dishes. Whenever we craved for Shui Zhu Yu(Spicy Fish Fillet) we will definitely come here. It’s VERY good. The spicy dishes gives us a tingly sensation on the tongue and lips, but it’s not annoying. And they are all so good with rice, very appetizing. For non spicy dishes, our favorite will be the mushroom pot. Service wise, the staffs are all very friendly and attentive, even when they are busy. They make you feel like home. Coming here is easy, 5 mins walking distance from the 7 Train Main St. Flushing station.(Note: English dish name in this review is directly translated, does not reflect what’s in the printed menu)

Friday night, our regular go to Queens for ethnic food brought us to New Golden Szechuan on Roosevelt Ave in the heart of Flushing. NGS is easy to find with its bright signage and welcoming entrance, across the way from Foo Run and around the corner from Municipal Parking. The venue is moderate size with a small staff, not all conversant in English… but that’s not a problem, they are friendly and using the menu to point out choices helps. We started with appys; won Tons Szechuan style and Cold Noodles Chengdu Style… both delicious in the red hot oil! Our entre’s were Spicy Cumin Lamb which while tasty was not coated with cumin seeds… a good thing and slice Fish with Peppercorn, in a sizzling pot of red hot oil… spicy good! Be cautious when ordering to not get everything in red hot oil cause you can’t differentiate the flavors of the dishes. The menu is vast and we will return

I came here at the suggestion of another Unilocaler. I came here with my sister and cousin after a Unilocal event. There really wasn’t any food at the event, so we were starving!!! It was a really random time, around 3:30, so there wasn’t really anybody in the place, except for the 2 workers who were eating their lunch and a table of guys eating hot pot and getting wasted on Johnny Walker Red. Since we were supposed to have dinner we just ordered the spicy dumplings and the Szechuan spicy fish pot. The dumplings were tasty but not spicy… The fish pot well, it wasn’t spicy and they soup was so thick from the flour or corn starch they added into it. On top of that, there was a small roach that was on a piece of the napa. The two staff members apologized and let us know that they would make us a new one. Surprisingly I didn’t gag from seeing the roach, I think I was just too drunk… lol Anyways they kept the entire pot outside next to the bussing station. We didn’t ask them to do that, but it was nice confirmation that they were not giving us the same pot back. We got the new pot and they said it was because the roach was stuck to the napa during washing. Egh. That just means you don’t wash your vegetables well enough. Anyways aside from that, the service was fine, and I’m not even going to complain about the cleanliness, but the food. Well not that great.

Really appreciated the personal attention paid by the owner of New Golden Szechuan, a small resto on Roosevelt Avenue just off Prince Street. We did stop in just before 6 for dinner when only one other table was occupied, but by the time we left close on 7:30, the house had filled up, yet we still had him stopping by and talking about his daughters’ successes. Proud papa. And, he should be pleased with what comes out of his kitchen. Although he is from Hong Kong, his chefs do a very good job with mixing the peppers that make Szechuan cuisine the tongue numbing experience for which it is known and loved. He has taken it a step further by offering a table full of spices and oils that customers can take for themselves if they feel like walking on the wild side. We did. Our order was Dan Dan Mein, Chongqing Chicken and Green Gourd with Tofu. I thought all three were among the best of their class I have sampled in Flushing. The Noodles were amply hot with plenty of ground Pork and hot brown sauce that while packing a lip smacking sting, also suggested a hidden sweet moment in the midst of the conflagration. That was a very pleasing surprise. The Chicken was overflowing with Red Chili Peppers and those smaller but deadly Star Pepper nubs. Even through the heat, the obvious freshness of the meat shown through. No frozen cluckers here. The pieces were succulent and lightly crunchy from beginning to end. To offset the fireworks, the Green Gourd was cut into large long slices with a gentle clear sauce that had a touch of garlic to bring out the highlights. The Tofu was soft and was a great vehicle to absorb the oils left on the palate and recharge for the continuing onslaught of the molten dishes. There are so many good shops in Flushing that it is hard to say any one place is the best of breed. New Golden Szechuan challenges for the true meaning of Honorable Mention, as while I loved everything about the experience, I have had so many memorable meals on these mean streets, that honestly demands that I only say that this meal was one of the best.

PROS: The best chung qing chicken I’ve ever had! So crispy, flavorful and not super oily like the other ones. We also ordered the pork, fish and a squash dish. They were all very tasty! I went with friends who already ordered before I arrived so I didn’t get the names of all the dishes. Anyways, everything was cooked skillfully at a good price. The average per person was $ 15 and totally worth every cent! The owner is very friendly as well. CONS: not a thing I can remember
