I love Hunan cuisine, but I wasn’t that satisfied with the service provided. Besides the service, one of the dishes was way too salty. Hunan dishes are already heavy on flavor, so a slight mishap on salt can be pretty bad. The food was good but it was very similar to the Hunan house restaurant opened longer. Many of their dishes are the same, similar names as well.

Traditional Hunan food, full of spice! The wait staff is very good at making recommendations, so don’t be afraid to ask. My favorite is the Gan Gor series(could be chicken, fish, beef…). Be prepared to eat a lot, drink a lot of water, and sweat a lot!

Traditional and authentic Chinese food. Not like other restaurants which cook Americanized Chinese food. They have whole fish and many kinds of organ products, like pig intestines. Although the environment is fair, the service is good.

SPICYDELICIOUSGOODNESS. This place is a hidden gem y’all. It’s not on a particularly popular block in Flushing and is easy to miss. Heck, it looks like all the other bajillion restaurants in Flushing which makes it even easier for someone not to pay it any mind. BUTGIVETHISPLACE A TRYBECAUSETHEFOODISSERIOUSLYAMAZING.(A big thank you to my snooty best friend for bringing me here *bow*) My bff and I walked into a near empty restaurant with only one other table dining besides us. That worried me considering its Saturday, but don’t be like me. The place started filling up a bit after and now I know why. Everything we ordered literally tasted so darn good. Shredded Beef with Peppers — for $ 14, you really get your money’s worth. The portion is huge and the flavor in the dish will get your tastebuds dancing. The beef was incredibly tender and all the peppers were sliced and sautéed perfectly. I was a fan of everything about the dish except for the celery — but that’s only bc I hate celery. Dish is spicyyyy though so ask for less spice if you can’t handle it. Cabbage — Lol. I told bff that for $ 8, the cabbage better be out of this world. Ok, it wasn’t rockin’ my world, but it was definitely some good cabbage with a delicious broth like spicy sauce on the bottom. Would I get it again? No. But was it a good dish? Yes. Oh and yeah, spicy. Also a generous portion, but I mean $ 8… So yeah. Fish in Spicy Broth or «Sui Ju Yu» in canto — SPICY. I don’t know how spicy it is regularly but bff asked for«extra spicy» and extra spicy it was. Roof of my mouth was literally on fire, but it was worth it. Fish absorbed all the flavor from the fiery red broth. Fish had no bones and was soft and juicy. The broth was a little too oily for my liking, but made a great sauce for putting over rice. Our total came out to around $ 41 before tip with two sodas and we even had leftovers to pack home from every dish that we ordered. More than fair. I’m officially a fan, and can’t wait to go back and try the shredded potato with salted egg that bff also raved about.

The pork with pepper was the best! Even my friend from Hunan spoke highly of it. The cabbage was also not bad. The spicy fish and boiling bullfrog were a little bit disappointed.

I never thought to even try this restaurant but boy am I glad I did. From the outside, this is just another one of many, and I mean MANY chinese restaurants in flushing. I was very discontented with this restaurant also being a Hunan style restaurant which usually means spicy dishes. But as soon as you walk in, the décor isn’t the typical environment youd expect to find having dined in flushing for years, which is a nice surprise. The dishes are cheap, delicious, with great portions. We ordered 4 dishes and the meal came out to $ 44!!! That’s amazing! Not all their dishes are spicy which I was very thankful for but sooooooo good! I haven’t enjoyed such a simple dish like sauteed cabbage as much as I did in this restaurant!

The food is five star, their business model one. I came in took a seat and looked through their lunch menu, ordered and was told lunch is weekdays only(this was not stated on the menu.) I don’t like this sort of thing but ok. I got the beef with white pepper which was delicious. The chopsticks were from some cheap place so even though I rubbed then against each other I still got a splinter in my thumb. If you’re charging 15 bucks a meal, you could spring for decent utensils. Anyway, they asked what was wrong and I told them– they reacted with a bored look and patronizingly asked if I needed a fork. So I had my fill and finished and left without tipping. The bored waiter suddenly sprung into action and ran after me, muttering about a tip. I ignored him so his last words were«oh fuck you». I’m a realist and know that a service of any sort is an exchange. But sometimes even the pretense of concern is appreciated.

I really love this place. We had spicy fish, Eggplant and sour bean with minced pork(see pic attached). Everything are delicious and tasty. Cold dishes are a little bit too spicy but still acceptable for spicy food lovers. Dan Dan main is way better than Szechuan Style. The service is nice and fast. I will come again.

If you ever make it out to flushing or if you are a spicy food lover like myself this is the hidden gem that regulars go too. I have been a regular at this restaurant for some time now and I love the spices they use to create mouth euphoria. If you can’t take the heat please tell them or you will regret it both ways(literally). I love their shredded potato with salted egg, any whole fish any style, steamed spicy dish(food in spicy oil soup), gan wok(served in a wok over small fire) and too many others. This place does not have an liquor license so do yourself a favor by going two doors down to the liquor store and pick up a bottle of cold white wine(pinto or chardonnay) which seemed to pair well with the spicy food.

Came here for lunch during work one day. Ordered the spicy beef tripe with tendon and this spicy beef in green pepper pot. Both were very tasty and delicious This place is slightly pricier, cleaner and nicer than other chinese restaurants in the area. Service was decent. I would definitely come back and try other dishes

We picked this restaurant at random, having it come up as «moe» after«eeny», «meeny», and«miney», and we couldn’t have been more pleased. My wife prefers American-style Chinese while I prefer to let my lunch try to wrestle the chopsticks out of my hand first, so breaking out the menu into traditional and American-style is a nice touch on their part. I’d not seen that before. The Sichuan Chicken and Double-Sautéed Pork were both delicious, and garlicky to the point that we melted our windshield when we got back in the car, which is a good thing. Only complaint would be that the pork dish was a little too light on on the actual pork, but it was still so far superior than what they’re serving up at the joint in our neighborhood that I choose to forgive them. Decent atmosphere, good service despite a language barrier, and reasonable pricing, too, so I give it a thumbs-up!

I have to say this is one of the most original and authentic Chinese restaurant in NYC. For the distinguishable purpose, they separate the Chinese food and American-Chinese food on the menu, which is barely common among all the Chinese restaurants. I guess that’s why they named their restaurant traditional.

I happened upon this place quite by accident and it has quickly become my favorite Hunan restaurant in Flushing. They are pretty darn authentic so be prepared to cry tears of chili pepper joy! As usual, when eating spicy cuisines, my go-to dish is pork and green chili peppers(they’re not jalapenos… it’s a Chinese chili pepper that’s long, slender, green, and packs quite a punch — called«qing jiao»), but here, they serve beef instead of pork, if I remember correctly. Still, it’s super yummy. I also recommend you try their spicy cold noodles, but be prepared to weep! The noodles are a test in masochism; They’re so so so spicy and yet so deliciously addicting, you won’t know what to do. This is a relatively new restaurant, I think, so not many people have Unilocaled about it yet. Shh, let’s keep this a hidden gem for a while longer, shall we? Edit: This place still consistently serves delicious food. I’m just adding one more recommendation to the list: the potatoes and salted eggs dish. So so yummy! Food: 5⁄5 — incredibly yummy! Service: 4⁄5 — attentive and helpful Atmosphere: 4⁄5 — neat and feels spacious despite the limited space thanks to the mirror wall Overall: 5⁄5 — exceptional!

I was on a doctors appointment in the area. After my appointment, I wanted to get some lunch. On Flushing and Main there is a plethora of Asian restaurants, and I didn’t know where to go. Around this area, its hard to find a place that serves fried rice, believe it or not, they serve their meals with white rice, but I wanted pork fried rice to be exact, and kept going until I found the Traditional Hunan Style restaurant. They were very friendly, and sat me down at a table, there was no one else there at the time I walked in, but that soon changed. The place was clean, and the décor was quaint, and pleasing, not overly done. I asked the waiter if they had pork fried rice like at the Chinese fast food places. He looked at me and smiled, and said no, that they are traditional and don’t cook that way. I have read that in those Chinese fast food places, they invented a lot of the recipes to suit the American palette. The food in those places insult the Chinese community, because that isn’t how food is made in China, their true cuisine isn’t represented correctly in those places. The Fortune Cookie was invented in the United States, you won’t find them in China. I ordered the traditional pork fried rice. The waiter brought me the rice, it was served on a large white bowl, and it was a lot for less than $ 7. I began to eat the rice, and my eyes opened wide. This is the best friend rice I have ever tasted. Hunan cooking can be a bit spicy, but I love spicy, I guess you can ask the waiter to ease up on the pepper, but I loved it the way it was prepared. It had everything, vegetables, egg, bean sprouts, and if you want pork, shrimp.etc. you just ask for it. I ate the whole thing, and wanted more, but didn’t. The rice isn’t like the fast food places, they use a light soy sauce, which leaves the rice looking more white than what you get in those places. I enjoyed and plan on going back to try more dishes.

This is a newly opened Hunan style restaurant in Flushing. A few friends recommended it to us and it was fine traditional Hunan cuisine. Liver with pepper is a highlight. Tender, flavorful with a little heat. The waiter also recommended stir fried potato and salted egg York. Very tasty. This restaurant does tangy sour flavor particularly well and the mince pork with pickled string bean did not disappoint!
