If you wanted to get some Cabela’s brand socks or boots, you better go now because it will surely be closed in the next few weeks… maybe. What I’ve gathered from employee intel is that based on the success of this store, the higher-ups will be deciding if, when, and where to open a permanent Cabela’s(I honestly think it would be best to just keep it in the location, but I understand that might cut off a business from anyone that doesn’t have military ties because most civilian El Pasoans avoid Fort Bliss like the plague). If you’re a fan of Cabela’s then this pop-up shop is for you because they literally only carry Cabela’s brand items. Some of the stuff could be pretty useful so if you’re outdoorsy like my fiancé and me, this is a good place to go a look for a deal on boots, two person tents, nice gloves(that you will both accidentally burn holes in when you pick up hot rocks to rearrange your fire pit), hats, and the like. We’ve come here a couple of times for different reasons, but we’ve only left with really small items like gloves because the prices didn’t seem all that great. I expect that might change if they do become a permanent store and are able to provide a larger variety of items. The one thing that kind of pissed me off about Cabela’s was the boot section. I may have walked up and down the isle saying«This is all sh*t.» So to say it «kind of pissed me off» is an understatement. The shoe section as a whole is pretty small, but the men’s section at least has real boots… waterproof boots that come over your ankle that are great for hiking or just doing some work in the mud. The women’s section had those«hiking» tennis shoes that only 40-year-old women who spent a great deal of time in the Peace Corps wear that weigh about ten pounds a shoe, barely reach your ankle, and may or may not be waterproof. Sure, I could just go figure out what men’s shoe kind of fits me, but why should I be subjected to choosing between boots that don’t fit right or boots that look ridiculous and have no real purpose? Needless to say, I didn’t buy«boots» here(and yes, I put«boots» in quotations because those women’s shoes hardly qualify as boots). This is just my one big tiff that I hope changes if this Cabela’s does in fact become a permanent Cabela’s. I will say, the employees here are super nice. They always greet me when I enter, answer and questions I have, ring me up rather quickly, never let a line form for the register, and wish me on my merry way.

This is a seasonal store at Freedom Crossing. It is down from Under Armour, on the same side, at the end of the walkway. I say this because there is no signage directing shoppers here which can be confusing after dusk. I may or may not have wandered around for awhile looking for it. Chances are you already know what Cabela’s is about but if not, it consists of hunting, fishing, and outdoor gear. The store is a lot bigger inside than it appears and is very clean. Their inventory currently appears to be all Cabela’s brand. ALL.OF.IT. For casual shoppers, you may be disappointed by this. If you love the brand, then you’ll probably have a field day because nearly everything was on sale! Although there is a variety of items, particularly clothing, keep in mind this IS a seasonal store so be sure to call ahead if you are looking for a specific item(s).
