After being seated we had to actually flag someone down to take our order. Once we got the order in, the service was just slow — not horrible. The sushi was not good. The sushi rolls were dry, my kids teriyaki chicken was over-cooked and gross. The tuna in the spicy tuna roll was not fresh(not bad, but dry and lacking flavor). We went in at lunch time and the music was loud and club-like. Overall the price tag did not reflect the quality of the food. Very disappointed.

The atmosphere is not your typical sushi restaurant. I didn’t like that. It was more of a bar/hip hop scene with loud music and décor. Our service was good and the food was not bad. Spicy tuna wasn’t very spicy but tasted good over all. If you’re on post and want sushi go for it, if you can get off post look around first.

So when you walk into a restaurant with a title as prosaic and uninspired as «The Sushi Place», it doesn’t really leave much for the imagination to rave about, does it? I mean, I’ve walked BY this place on an almost regular basis. Yet it never really occurred to me to go out of my way to actually try their food. That is… until today. I’d like to throw out a disclaimer right now: the only reason I agreed to go was because I was invited by some good people. Aaaand… curiosity got the better of me. I probably should have read the previous reviews first but… what the hell? I was feeling a little adventurous today. As can be seen in the photos below, I ordered the spider roll with fried rice on the side. And it’s a good thing I had fried rice, because the spider roll looked as uninspired as it tasted. The flavor(or lack there of) of said roll was bland and almost non-existent. It’s never a good sign when your roll still tastes bland even after you poor soy sauce on it. I don’t get it. They seem to have half way decent ingredients to work with here. Yet they manage to produce a sushi roll that’s as forgettable as the characters in The Phantom Menace. At least the fried rice was decent enough… once I touched it up with some soy sauce, naturally. Some folks complained about the service here. But I honestly had no real issues with the service. My problem is that since this place claims to be a sushi restaurant, they are an epic let down in that department. I feel as if they are an unintentional parody to the art of sushi. I want it on the record that I didn’t really care for their menu selection either. Half the items are spicy apparently. Why is this a good thing?! I’m only giving them two stars primarily because of the fried rice and decent service. As far as sushi goes, these folks are like the Michael Bay of Japanese cuisine; mostly flash and explosion with little dynamic flavor to offer.

The sushi place has got to be the worst sushi I’ve ever had! Commissary has better sushi! It’s over priced and bland the ingredients to rice ratio is ridiculous. I don’t know where they learned to make sushi but I think they need to be taught again. Seriously why is it that my sushi did not come with wasabi and pickled ginger? Will not be eating there ever again. I don’t recommend this place unless you like overpriced bland sushi…

Really Slow Service. But if sushi was good I wouldnt mind. But honestly the only thing good about the sushi was the sauces they put on it. Otherwise lowest quality sushi ive eaten, rice was hard and cold, fish felt out of proper temperature. Just bad sushi. I was really having high hopes for the place. But they really need to hire a real sushi chef if they want to save the place. Otherwise they will only get new customers that cycle thru the military base but no repeat customers.

This restaurant is the one located on Ft Bliss, in Freedom Crossing. I had a Salmon Samurai Roll because it seemed to have the least amount of unnecessary fatty sauces. Initially, the roll seemed was much better than I expected, less rice more Salmon. However, the Salmon was not fresh it had a fishy after taste which really grossed me out. Im probably never going back for sushi. I have to note I’m a picky sushi eater… Sorry Sushi Place, I don’t recommend anyone eat sushi here.

Worst service ever. Took 45 min to get miso soup. Kitchen staff to busy hanging out outside smoking

Having grown up with amazing sushi, perhaps I’ve been spoiled. The sushi here just didn’t compare to what I’ve been accustomed to. The rice lacked flavor. It was also hard as if it was sitting around in the refrigerator all day. The soba noodles in my salad came straight from the freezer or an ice bath. I ordered a new roll in an attempt to be adventurous, but nuts on sushi is borderline unforgivable. Sadly, the miso soup was the highlight of my meal. I should have know by the décor, the house music playing, and the wait staff taking selfies at the bar that this place was a pass, but I really wanted sushi. Next time I’ll know to just pass.

I SHOULD’VEKNOWN, ELPASODOESNOTKNOWHOWTODOSUSHIWELL Came back for a day on post while on the field for REFIT and Showers and decided to treat myself to some ‘REALFOOD’. Was in the mood for some Sushi and despite the poor reviews, decided to give this on-post Sushi restaurant a try. The outcome? HORRIBLE I walked in at 1100 and the place was empty. Was greeted by the server and he took my drink order and gave me some time to order food. I got the Mango Habanero Roll and the Lobster Roll since I felt like treating myself after eating MREs and shitty DFAC food throughout the field. I was given a bowl of complimentary Miso Soup and about 15 minutes later, my food arrived. Both rolls arrived very well presented in a white ceramic plate and looked delicious. However, it was lackluster and the WORSTSUSHI I’ve ever had in my life. Both Rolls had NO taste, no sweet no sour no spicy no nothing. I felt like I was eating plain rice with dried tempura because the rolls were 85% rice and 15% other ingredients. Also, the Sushi rice wasn’t seasoned at all and it was served WARM And NOTFRESHATALL and that’s not how Sushi is supposed to be. The worst part however was that there was a curly gummy looking HAIR in one of my rolls as I was about to finish my last few pieces. I’m usually lenient towards a piece of hair but this was just too much and considering I’m paying an overpriced $ 13 – 17 per roll, I had to notify the server. The server took my plate back and I’m guessing he spoke with the manager/owner and came back, apologized, and told me that it’s not hair and it’s something that ‘COMESWITHTHEFISH’ which is Bullshit of course. He told me that if it still grosses me out, he’ll give me 50% OFF. He did and I left the restaurant feeling sick and with stomach cramps. Do yourself a favor and DONOTEATHERE. The Sushi is WARM, just BAD, and food is disgustingly overpriced thinking it’s NYC or something. Whoemever thinks Sushi here is good is probably born without tastebuds. If you crave Sushi while on post, head over to the Commissary and get the Sushi from the Sushi Stand near the Self Check-Out/Bakery Station, it’s 1 million times better and cheaper and fresher too! NEVERRETURNINGTOTHISPLACEAGAIN(I’m literally shitting out diahrrea while writing this review, that should tell you something)

Visited here twice, once with entire family and today at lunch alone. Decent sushi, ok miso soup and delicious steamed dumplings. Their Moscow mules are good. Friendly service at the bar or tables. The special tuna roll is delish.

The environment for this place is interesting to say the least, it felt more like a trendy bar than a sushi restaurant. My experience: Miso soup was watered down with a few pieces of tofu and green onions, the gyoza was a frozen brand but the dipping sauce was alright. The main meal consisted of the banana roll, Hawaiian roll, mango habenaro roll, geisha roll and dragon. Banana roll: the shrimp was bland, banana was a little old Hawaiian: bland shrimp, and pineapple was very bland Mango: other than the mango there wasn’t any flavor Geisha: too me it tasted like old fish I also ordered a patron and lemonade which taste like only ¼ of the drink was lemonade/patron the rest water. Will not return

Coming from Asia didn’t expect this place to match the quality, but expecting it to be decent for the area which in a way was met but feel like the philly roll was ruined by the random raspberry sauce the added to it? Would recommend to remove that because took away from the flavor I was going for when I ordered the philly.

The décor and ambiance throw out an upbeat, modern vibe. The restaurant has an illuminated blue bar area, modern music, flat screen TVs, booths, and dark wood furniture(although beware of the random wobbly chair or table). The dress attire is very casual. I really haven’t branched out too far on the menu, sticking mainly with sushi. Specialty rolls range $ 10 and up. There are quite a few options. The sushi is okay, but it’s just very generic. It all falls somewhere in the middle of not bad but not great either. A bit overpriced in regards to quality honestly. The service has always been acceptable here though, which is a plus. There’s an outdoor seating area which is nice for warm nights or to enjoy a Freedom Crossing event going on(like live music) while you have a drink or eat a bite. Sometimes they’ll run a beer special outdoors coinciding with an event. Admittedly, I would not make a special trip just to eat at The Sushi Place, but it’s convenient if you are already in the area.

My husband and I attempted to eat dinner here this evening. When we arrived, there was no hostess to seat us so we had to wait a few minutes before a server eventually came over and got us a table. We placed our orders, chicken with rice for myself and shrimp and chicken with noodles for my husband, and the waiting game began. While we waited, our server brought us two bowls of miso soup which lacked any real flavor. After 45 minutes with no sign of our entrees, we noticed people who had walked in after us were receiving their food. This is completely unacceptable. The restaurant wasn’t even that busy. We decided to leave without receiving our food and we will not be returning to The Sushi Place. I can’t really comment on their food but based on service alone we won’t be recommending this place to anyone.

I’m coming back for the second time even though I didn’t like it the first time. I thought it would’ve changed by now. Nope. It’s not your typical Japanese restaurant. Better choices off post due to the fact that the sushi isn’t fresh.

Being that there isn’t that many good sushi places in El Paso, The Sushi Place isn’t bad. I’m big on adding sauces to my rolls and I feel like if you add spicy mayo, eel sauce or siracha sauce(all of those you can ask for) to any of their rolls, it makes them a million times better. I personally like the rainbow roll with siracha on top or the crazy cucumber roll.

Wait staff was nice, digs were trendy, «hella hip», but while the menu promised all sorts of crazy delicious-sounding rolls, what our server delivered was bland, somewhat rubbery disappointment. A damn shame. Because, when you hear people grumble about sushi they ordered in the desert, how it lacked freshness, you might think to yourself, «Well, duh. You’re in the DESERT! The sea is way, far the hell away from you, genius.» But I live in Arizona, in a small town 75 miles from the nearest metropolis, and we have good sushi. So there’s no excuse for what’s happening at this joint. And what’s happening is an insult to sushi. An over-priced affront to all that is flavorful. And it can be remedied. All things are possible in the minds of men and the hearts of sushi-lovers.

Oh my. Talk about not-so-fresh sushi. I’m going to warn you now, do NOT order ‘raw’ sushi here. If you absolutely must come to this place, always get everything baked. But if you can help it, don’t eat here. The Rainbow Roll is probably the most common roll in the US. Everyone knows what that is– and all the sushi restaurants in the US knows how to make it. Except this place. It doesn’t help that you have old, nasty, discolored raw fish, but what makes it worse is just the flavorless ingredients(minimal, might I add) that is shoved into seaweed and shit-ton of rice. And don’t get me started on the«Special» California Roll. The rice to other ingredients ratio on this sushi is 50:1. I realize rice is cheaper than these other ingredients, but don’t you want to make quality sushi? I don’t know, but if I was running a restaurant, I’d do my best to please the costumers and make the best food possible. You can RARELY fuck up a California Roll, but this place did. Congratulations, Sushi Place. You’ve done the impossible. Seriously, don’t eat here.
