I first found this little gem on Unilocal and decided to check it out despite never having tried Kava before. It’s an interesting drink but the place itself is definitely a nice spot to grab a unique drink and enjoy some great company. The bartender was a chill and nice guy who makes you feel welcome and the overall atmosphere of the place just sends out positive vibes. Even if the Kava drink isn’t for you try some of their great teas and enjoy the company.

This was my first time, I drank two ed shell bowls, which I think was too much, because I fell sick. Before I drank the second shell I felt amazing, totally relaxed and I had lots of energy. I was extremely happy. Rodrigo was the«bartender» he was amazing, very informative. I would totally try this again. DONOTDOTHISANDDRIVE, it does affect you in a way were some people cannot drive, I couldn’t drive but my spouse could.

My friend and I are very happy that we had our first Kava experience at Kavasutra. The bartender Matt was very friendly and helped us decide on what would be the best for us first timers. We each ended up getting the Ed Shell and a flavored shot on the side. We also received a discount since it was our first time trying Kava which was really considerate of them. So no I did not enjoy the taste but it is not unbearable. My mouth, throat and lips went numb after drinking the kava and about 15 – 20 minutes later I felt the effects. I was honestly surprised I was able to feel it so strongly(not in a negative way) considering you usually don’t as a first timer but I believe a lot had to with me being on an empty stomach. It’s really hard to describe how you feel but needless to say I enjoyed it! It’s kind of like a physical body high but the mind is uplifted and clear. I had pretty bad cramps when I went but later on I realized that my pain had been completely alleviated! We ended up staying for over 2 hours, even cancelled plans that we had later on the night because of how much we were enjoying ourselves. Needless to say next time I visit my friend in Ft. Lauderdale we will probably be stopping by here again :)

Kava is ½ price during happy hour starting at 6pm. Experienced bartender to guide newbies. Not directly on Las Olas but behind it. Look for the dune buggy parked on Las Olas then enter the parking lot next to it. They give you a pineapple chaser. Look up the health benefits of flavokawain

The bar is a bit difficult to find, but it is very nice and well kept. The drinks were good and they offer a lot of variety. I’d definitely recommend their shots! It was a great experience. Our bartender Matt was outstanding, and very friendly. Will definitely come back!

This was my first time trying Kava and it was a very cool experience. The bar sits about 12 people and there are some nooks around the edges of the place to sit. It is a very small and cozy place. It is set back from Las Olas across from Fork and Balls Restaurant. Since it was our first time, the bartender was very informative about what kava is. It is a root from the Pacific Islands. They crush the root and add liquid to it. It tastes like earth. They serve it with a slice of pineapple, which is refreshing after drinking it. We were told to order the strong Kava for $ 10 since it was our first time. We decided to split it. I am glad we did because my tongue was numb after drinking half of it. The customers are super friendly and everyone talks to each other. You can flavor your kava with flavored syrups for no additional charge. They have a variety of teas to try. I would go back to further experience kava.

This is one of my favorite places to visit when I go to Fort Lauderdale. The staff is friendly, amusing, and they play good tunes. Love the happy hour specials! The only problem is I live so far away or I would be there everyday!!! Can’t wait till I’m back in town!!:-)

This place is Disney World. Everyone that comes here is super chill and very intellectual. The kava is the absolute best in the area. Very smooth and very strong. The Lix shots are delicious and the selection of exotic herbal teas is unmatched. Best hangout in south Florida and the bartenders here are very cool people. Super down to earth and very quick satisfying service. The bartender McFly is my favorite. :)

This kava bar is really awesome. Everyone is super chill and really nice. Not to mention, the kava drinks here rule! I recommend the Ed Shell. Truly a unique experience. Not far from Fort Lauderdale public beach.

Had 6 beverages each before we felt anything. My face was numb and I was a little smilie. Expect an earthy bitter peppery taste. As soon as we left and got in the car we were nauseous. 4 out of 4 of us got sick. 3 out of 4 of us puked. The service was excellent. The environment was chill. People around us were loving it and were regulars. We were told the more frequently you drink kava the quicker you respond to it… Reverse tolerance. I would have probably gone back if I didn’t puke which has scarred me. My friend is still willing to give it a second chance.

This was the absolute worst experience ever!!! We somehow got lured in. It is at the bottom of a dark creepy road. THISDRINKISPOISEN I had no alcohol or anything and about 1030 minutes after drinking this stuff I THREWUP5 times!!! It gave my boyfriend serious indigestion and nausea and we were fucked for the rest of the Night. Not to mention we both woke up with RASHES all over our bodies… They riped us out of 10 dollars a disgusting shot to throw a cherry on top. STAYAWAY!!!

It’s in a hidden corner off of las Olas. I would’ve missed it if it wasn’t for the enthusiastic person handing out flyers! It’s a small location with a wrap around bar which is pretty much the center of the entire room with 2TV screens at either side mainly playing natured themed, surf or reggae styled videos! All awesome when you feel the effect if kava! It is said to have relaxing qualities which you can feel instantaneously as you take your first sip of this peculiar earthy drink! I really enjoyed the«shots» which very very fruity and masqueraded the intense muddy taste if the natural kava. The owner Fish,(short for Fisher), was a darling! What a most proper host for a kava experience. He was so friendly and welcome and definitely knowledgeable about hooking you up with different flavors! Now I drink kava very seldom because of what I’ve read about the long lasting effects, but it’s a treat every now and then. And isn’t drinking alcohol just as bad or even worse with the effects! Enjoy but drink responsibly and do your research!

I’m not sure what to make of Kavasutra, or Kava for that matter. I like the fact that it’s a safe — though debatable — alternative to alcohol; however, I’m not convinced of the relaxing effects. For starters, Kava Kava is a root native to the South Pacific, it apparently has properties that neutralize anxiety. What Kava bars essentially do is strain the root with water, pour into a ‘shell’, where you chug it down(you also have the option of mixing it with pineapple or your favorite syurp flavor). A ‘single’ shot, or a ‘shell’(as frequent patrons says), will run you $ 5-$ 10. Mind you, a shot turned out being less than 8oz, and that’s just a modest calculation. I went with two other people, and we didn’t feel anything. It tasted like mud-water; in fact, that’s how even the bartender described it – bitter, to be exact. I liked his honesty. Now, I don’t mean to throw a curveball, but after doing some research, the root isn’t as safe as promoted, and if you have liver problems, my advice would be to steer away from this place. There have been numerous studies which have linked the root with having damaging effects on your liver(1). According to a study done by the University of Australia, one of the extracts of Kava showed an immediate disruption of narrowing the blood vessels, among other things, which does harm to your immune system. My take: Don’t buy into the hype. The Kava drink ‘trend’ is just another quack remedy for business purposes. While it may be positive for some, it’s harmful for others, which doesn’t balance out in anyone’s favor. (1) —

A unique little place that offers an alternative to the Ft Lauderdale bar scene. Kava is a great«social lubricant» without the hangover the next day. I went last weekend and had a few kava drinks and after getting home late, I slept like a baby. I highly recommend you pop in and check it out.

Kavasutra Kava Bar on Las Olas is a great little oasis. They call it a «Relaxation Station» and I can see why. It’s set back from the road a bit giving it a private feel and the vibe is totally chill. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the staff is awesome. Las Olas needed something fresh and new… this is it.
