I’ve been attending classes here for two years, since I transferred down from the honbu in Atlanta. Lots of schools talk about being«like a family,» so you get kind of deaf to the statement, or pessimistic about the sentiment. Not the case here. My Sensei, Sempais, and classmates know who I am, care how I’m doing, and challenge me to challenge myself, by being a good student, and a good person. I reciprocate wholeheartedly. Whether you’re five or 55, underweight or overweight, you WORK – when I first began martial arts, I didn’t think I’d eventually be doing gymnastics, too, but, sometimes a girl needs to cartwheel kick– you sweat, you push your limits. The result: a YOU who you like to introduce to other people. A YOU who can do more that you may’ve thought possible. Martial arts aren’t the belt at your waist, they’re the journey. Lots of times that journey has you wanting to scream out profanities, or just cry. :) When you keep trying, though, and you’re standing next to people who are trying just as hard, it’s soooo very worth it. Two years(in Ft. Lauderdale) and counting-worth it.
