Advantage Rent A Car

Whelp– this place is horrible. Horrible. Horrible. I am too tired from the waiting and annoyance to write a long review, but NEVER rent from advantage in fort Myers. Staff was So rude, couldn’t reach them for the month prior by phone, HUGE line with no place to wait. Junked up car (the inside looks like it was cleaned with a dirty rag).

The only reason this place has one star is because I have to give it something. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. Their customer service sucks. Lines out the door. At one time only one person behind the desk and then one other person came to help and then they disappeared and even said they were going on break.
Please save yourself a lot of time and go elsewhere.

The woman who assisted us was like a sleazy used car salesman. She did not want to honor our reservation and insisted we get the Suburban instead of the minivan I reserved. She told us she «wasn’t supposed to do this» but she marked the rental price for a Suburban down to $ 32 a day. She did NOT tell us it was in addition to our reservation price! She then charged us $ 45 a day in addition to the agreed upon rate (instead of $ 32) then slipped the contract to my husband, who was not paying attention to the discussion, and had him sign it. She completely cheated us. Do NOT trust these people

Absolutely horrendous check in experience.
The line was out the door with only 2 agents working at a snail’s pace. Had to go out myself and note the pre-​existing damage on the car so I would not be charged for it upon return. No agent available to do this. After a long plane trip getting to your vacation destination no one wants to wait over an hour and a half to pick up their rental car.
After driving a short while the low tire pressure light came on and had to stop to put air in the tires. Should have been checked by Advantage prior to release.
One evening an «idiot light» came on and I placed a call to Advantage and left a VM to call me the next day to discuss the solution and I never received a return call.
All in all, this was the worst rental car experience I have ever had.
Do yourself a big favor and rent elsewhere.

Absolute worst rental in the past 30 years. Waited 2 hours because the 2 people working were only concerned with trying to up sell every person that checked in. After the 2 hour wait in the heat we needed up with a filthy dirty SUV and not the SUV we reserved. Do not rent from this place in Ft. Meyers or Naples.

My cousin buckled over in pain at the airline gate.
She was taken from the gate to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a kidney stone.
Jet Blue credited her 100% because it was a medical emergency.
Advantage rent a car which my cousin reserved and prepaid a rental would only credit her 50%.
That is absolutely unacceptable.

Quick service, kind staff, clean car. I will use them again. They do need to fix their location status. They recently moved so be sure to double check their location.

Quite certainly the slowest place I’ve ever rented a car. It took over an hour to get from the terminal to being on the road. The staff was literally hanging out while people waited for them to stop socializing with their friends who stopped by the lot. Plenty of cars on the lot, yet they were cleaning cars before we could get in them that had just been dropped off. After waiting a half an hour in line at the counter to rent the car, the last thing you want to do is wait longer for it to be cleaned when there are plenty of other available cars.

Just rented my car. Shuttle service was quick and friendly, counter staff very professional. Saves MORE THAN 60% over at the airport locations — for only a 5 minute shuttle! Best of all, got a new VW Jetta — couldn’t be happier!

Bottom line: Avoid at all costs.
Reasons:
Worst customer service.
Ten minute shuttle from the airport when 5+ other rental companies are at the airport.
The wench at the front desk spends an insane amount of time fraternizing with customers on topics such as knee surgery while 4 other people have been standing in line for 20 minutes. Only after she uses witchcraft to TRICK you into paying for extras in the most sleezy way. Good strategy for making extra dollars on the cheap rentals but terrible strategy for customer satisfaction.
I will NEVER be a repeat customer here.

The entire experience renting from advantage went very smooth. The staff was very nice and professional, getting us our car quick and efficient. The car was brand new and was very clean and nice. The only downside is it isn’t right at the airport, however they have a shuttle that wasn’t a hassle at all and took less than 10 minutes. You can’t beat their prices either! I would definitely rent from them again.

This was the wost place ever! Would rate a –5 if I could. Talked my husband in getting insurance we didn’t need and you have to pay for an extra driver ($ 75.00) even though I was the only one driving it once he got it to our destination. I paid over $ 400 for this piece of crap Nissan versa that was dented and looked as if someone had taken a whole sleeve of saltine crackers and crushed them and then dumped them in between the seats. Absolutely gross and I had to pay $ 400 for that! My quote said $ 168 when I first booked. Then when we got the car to our house in Naples it had a flat tire! Do NOT book from this place. When I questioned the woman she was very rude and it’s off site from the airport, not convenient at all. I was okay with everything for $ 168 but not for $ 400+!!!

Price was higher than quoted. While the written price i received showed base rate and then all taxes, when i went to get the car seems the quoted price did not include a 2 per day Florida surcharge. Now i have no doubt this is a legitimate florida charge, the original quote needs to include it. They said they had no control over taxes so i requested they reduce the weekly rate by that amount so the total would be the same as the quote. Fortunately i was renting locally so i just refused and left. Do not use these folks. If you were arriving from out of town, took the shuttle to this remote location, you woukd just be stuck!,

This place is a racket.
First off, the rental agent would not rent me a car without a copy of my insurance card. I was traveling (hence the need for a car rental) and did not have a copy of my insurance card. This was a dealbreaker for Mary Jo at Advantage Car Rental. Additionally, she was very rude and unapologetic. I was ready to walk out and go elsewhere, but I decided to attempt to log on to my insurance company’s website to attempt to get an electronic insurance card. While I was doing this, I borrowed her pen to write down the policy number. At this point, Mary Jo told me «You can’t hand write your policy number — it has to be faxed». Thanks for the tip, genius. I was able to send via fax from my phone. Crisis averted.
Then the hard sell on the upgrade to a convertible. During which Mary Jo attempted to use fuzzy math to trick me into the upgrade. I had to ask her 3 times what the daily rate of the upgraded car would be.
Then the hard sell on additional insurance.
Then the hard sell on prepaid gas.
I don’t recommend this place.

First, I’ll start with the fact that we had an ant infestation in the car. As we pulled out of the lot, we noticed a few ants scurrying over the dashboard and thought is was nothing. By the time we drove to our destination, they were crawling up our legs and stomachs. None of my family wanted to go anywhere because they were so grossed out. Unfortunately, our destination was too far to go and get it exchanged.
Second, I see many other comments that this place should be called «Take Advantage» … and that is 100% accurate. This seems to be a trend. You book a car at a great deal, but when you arrive, it’s not available and they force an upgrade on you for 3x the price. What other choice do you have? None, except to go back to airport (which is a good 15 minute shuttle ride) and find another rental company. SCAM.
I will never rent from the company again.

Advantage helped save our vacation. They pricemarched a company i had booked with but found i couldnt take the car were i wished. ADVANTAGE was efficient and made it easy to rent from them. THANK YOU.

Terrible experience. They should rename themselves «Take Advantage of you Rent A Car» you reserve a car and when you get there it is no longer available, how convenient for them. they are EXTREMELY VAGUE. When reviewing policies & procedures, they over charge you and then treat you in such a condescending manner. The «manager» Matthew Travis should be required to have some customer service training as it appears he has never had any. Avoid using them at all costs.

Prepaid the car and at check in they have to ask a lot of options.
I didn’t need any of them so declined.
I’m sure since their rate is about half of everyone else, they really need to push these options. A lot of other reviews here felt pressured. But if you just put your big boy pants on and say no to what you don’t want, everything is good.
Car was almost brand new and worked out great.
It is an off location rental so shuttle takes about 10 minutes to airport.
Return was fast easy and polite.
Great Rental.

Had a great and smooth experience with Advantage. Shuttle was quick and easy from air port to Advantage and it took less than ten minutes to complete paper work and get the car. The return was easy as well taking less than ten minutes. Shuttle took us immediately back to the airport with no issue. Staff was all very nice and helpful. Will use Advantage again.

The worst experience at a rent a car business i have ever had. The employee named Cliff has an attitude and will act as if you are the problem and he is doing you a favor. The company is in cahoots with Ace rent a car. When either company runs out of cars the other will try and find you a similar deal (but worse of course.) i had a full size reserved and was offered a mid size as an option, because THEY ran out of cars. It’s a corrupt business that makes its money deliberately stranding travelers in the middle of nowhere with minimal options. Dont get scammed, choose another rent a car.
