I saw a few months ago on EatsBeats that El Merendero opened up on South Fwy and E Berry St. There is one in Dallas, but no reviews. I waited for reviews at this location, but no reviews and ended up going myself to see what it’s about. The food is not spicy like Mexican. The waitress said it was similar to Salvadoran. They had Pupusas. The traditional dish is Baleada. Looks like a quesadilla almost. It has mashed refried beans, cheese, and sour cream. The sour cream is different and not like american sour cream. Hondurans eat them mostly for breakfast and add eggs to it. They have their version of carne asada. They are big into fried things. They use cabbage and pickled vegetables. When I saw plantains on the menu, I was expecting the fried sweet plantains. They are more like plantain chips. They have Seafood soups! The seafood soup looked so good. The couple behind me got it. I got the Pescado Entomatado. A fried fish that comes with rice, beans, pickled veggies, and a coleslaw salad. I loved it all. The fish had good flavor. The rice and beans were done perfectly. I really liked the salad. I’ll be back to explore the rest of the menu!
